“Maribel Villas in October”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 8, 2012

We arrived on sat 27th october for a week chill out without our husbands & kids. Chill out was not the word!!!!! On arrival we were taken to our villa ( which i will add was lovely) no complaints there, although would have thought that it would at least be cleaned at least a couple of times while we were staying. The reception for the villas was a short walk down the road, BUT as we found out quite quickly they did not seem interested in helping us. The nearest supermarket that was open was at least an hour walk ( needed to get a taxi!!) & that closed down on the following tues. Nothing was open at all anywhere near us. It was not good weather all week & to our annoyance we had no hot water for 4 days in total. It was sorted after our first visit to reception but the second time reception was closed & the phone lines must have been down as we rang 2 different no's & our so called mysterious rep for jet 2 could not be contacted either. I even tried to ring back home to try & get hold of jet 2 in england but to no avail!!! It is beyond me why jet 2 would sell this holiday knowing that everything closes on the 31st Oct as one other family were told. They advertise that cala blanca may downsize at the end of the season but NOT close down completely. I would return to menorca & maribel villas but definately NOT in oct. (APRIL - SEPT).

we arrived on October 29th to celebrate our daughters 18th Birthday, and stayed a week. DO NOT come in October as there was nothing open. Every supermarket in Cala Blanca was closed so were not able to buy any food until we could hire a car, even that proved difficult . A couple of restaurants were open, but limited choice.
The reception at Maribel hotel was open but were not interested in helping, as the whole complex shut down on 31st October. This resort should not be advertised as a holiday in October as there is nothing to do.
The Villa was nice, but was not cleaned while we were there, other holiday makers had no hot water for 4 days. we went with Jet 2, no rep to be seen, at any point, tried ringing her mobile which was disconnected!!!
would return again, as Menorca which is beautiful but not at this time of year.

we traveled here as a couple with 5 year old little girl on the 22nd october , having read alot of write ups about the villas - decided to take a chance . Someone forgot the mention the whole resort had closed down !! by the time we left even the local supermarkets had closed their doors.

only 2 or 3 restaurants open and a couple of souvenir shops - very surprised ! felt sorry for anyone arriving after us .

decided to venture out to cuidrella (closed ! - well most things esp harbour ) , also cala bosc - our daughter described it fantastically - daddy its like scooby doo ghost town .

the villa was very nice ( Although now getting a little dated if you inspect closely ) - its only a couple of hundred metres to local beach (although all shops/ food places closed and toilets) and a good walk to 'town'. The main beach in cala blanca is a little bigger and probably a good 20 min walk but worth it .

tips - if you want english tv - read the manual , 38 channels showing bbc1 we found itv on channel 35

if travelling after mid sept - be aware everything starts closing for season , by end oct even the bus drivers have to get another job

shop around - prices in local supermarkets vary alot

hire a car - to get out and about

villa is well equiped - mini dish washer , iron , washing machine (no hairdryer in ours ) so take a few tablets to save you buying them - (thats if you can find them in shops ! haha)

all in all , despite alot being closed had a very nice , relaxing holiday i would recommend these villas - i think in peak season the beaches would be very very busy and crowded - so nice to get away

Room Tip: we stayed in villa 11 - away from road in middle - got the sun in afternoon

A group of five of us stayed here for the last week in September and had a great time. The villas are really well located with shops, bars, restaurants and the beach all within really easy walking distance and the big supermarket only a five minute drive away. I would suggest using the supermarket for your shopping as the prices are a lot lower than the smaller Spa shops.

The restaurant at the main Maribel centre was lovely with tasty reasonably priced food and excellent friendly staff who seemed to enjoy giving us free drinks each time we visited.

The Villa itself had everything we needed for our stay with air con in each room, a small but useful kitchen and a great poolside BBQ and eating area, not to mention the lovely decent sized pool which got a great deal of use over the week. There was always hot water for showers and they are in a really quiet location so were hardly disturbed by anything.

All in all a really good stay, highly recommended and we shall certainly be going back!

Stayed the 1st two weeks in september here and this was my first villa experience, like previous reviews i went on what people had to say, well i have to say i had a ball apart from the first 3 days of bad weather, the villa was perfect except the fact that it did not have a double bed, there were english speaking channels the staff attended to a problem quickly to have it sorted there are a lot of ants but just make sure not to leave any food lying around but the they do leave you ant spray. The Discont Supermarket is fantastic, i'd stay away from Spar as it is a rip off, the villas are only an 8/10 minute walk to Cala Blanca Commercial Centre with plenty of bars, restaurants with a 3 course meal for 10 euro. Absolutley brill and have booked again for next year.

My two teenage sons and I stayed in villa 12 for the first two weeks in July. Neither were interested in nightclubs etc - if you are, this resort is not for you. As has been mentioned in other reviews, the villas are in a small complex of 20, with the main Maribel Hotel being in the commercial centre of Cala Blanca - about a 15min flat walk away. We found the reception to be very helpful when we had some minor repair issues (a bedroom door wouldn't shut properly and the parasol pull cord was broken). Both of these matters were dealt with the next morning! The villas are surprisingly private. The pools can only be overlooked by neighbours while on their balconies - which due to the temperature, was not very frequent! You can hear people playing in their pools but we generally found everyone to be pretty considerate - occasionally loud music was irritating for short periods. You may find it useful to buy a cheap net from the shop next to the spar for cleaning the pool surface, as although the pool cleaner comes every other day, you do get the small flowers off the palm trees.
The spar shop is on the corner of Rossinyol and Rupit (the road down to the beach). Convenient for a 'top up' shop but its definitely worth going to the local supermarket (Diskont), which is only a few minutes drive away on the road to Cuitadella near the 2nd roundabout to Sa Caleta.
We ate out about every other evening, with bbqs for the remaining days. We found the restaurants to be surprisingly good value. The most expensive place we found to be was Sa Quadra (steak house in caves). The steaks were extremely good though! Sa Nacra - across Santandria beach- was also very good and lovely to sit overlooking the bay. Theres also a diving board there that people swim out to use. In the commercial centre of Cala Blanca we only ate in Ca's Mallorque which again was very good. They happened to have a special offer on when we were there, where all the main courses were no more than 10euros....even the lobster which should have been 50euros! Our favourite restaurant of the holiday was Miramar on Cala Blanca beach. The food was great (you need to try the shark starter which was absolutely delicious) but also we found the waiters here to be the friendliest of everywhere - particularly Diego. The restaurant Cala Blanca on the opposite side of the beach was also good. We ate in Ciutadella at Cas Consol, Placa Des Born (overlooking the harbour). Delicious food and a lovely spot to watch all the boats from. We chose to eat outside in a rather small courtyard area. As you can tell, we weren't disappointed in any of the restaurants we chose. We were advised it was quite normal to share starters so you don't have to order one per person if you don't want to.
A visit to Cuitadella in the evening is a must. The bus service is excellent - leaving from opposite the spar, and costing just under 4 euros a person each way. Cuitadella itself is a bustling town, which seems to come to life around 9pm when lots of stalls are set up on the slopes down to the harbour. There are also lots of shops and cafes in the pedestrian area around the cathedral.
As for the beaches, the boys went down to Santandria a couple of times - quite busy but very gently sloped and the little cafes were good to grab a drink in. We also drove to Cala Galdana (about 20mins) for a few hours. Lots of free parking within easy walk of a very long sandy beach. We didn't bother hiring loungers/umbrella as there is some shade under the trees. We had a snack lunch at the cafe towards the far end of the beach - good service and huge portions.
All in all it was the perfect quiet and relaxing holiday. Definitely fancy booking again for next year.

We have just returned from a week's stay in Villa Maribel, no 11, and wish we had stayed for a lot longer. The Villa was almost perfect, it was clean, air conditioned and the pool and gardens were more than big enough to cope with us and our extened family. The only negative would be the lack of an oven as we ate in quite a lot.
We have travelled to Menorca for the last 8 years and the last 2 have been spent in cala blanca, Santandria area and we have found this is the perfect place on the island for us. The villas are a 15 minute walk to the best bars and restaurants but only 2 minutes to the beach so you will have to decide which is more important for your holiday and if nightlife on your doorstep is essential this may be a little too far.
We had a toddler with us and the garden of the villa was perfect for him to run around although a pool alarm would be good as had to be watched all the time because of 2 metre deep pool. Plus there were entry points into other villa gardens which had to be blocked with sun loungers for added safety.
Cala blanca is a lovely resort, the soanish holiday here so this is a good testimont. Blarney Stone, irish pub amazing, mojito's a must try, and the restaurant opposite do the most amazing tapas. Don't be fooled into thinking they will be small sized, as they are in england, they are huge, big mistake ordering one of each dish off the menu as there was so much food that we were unable to finish.
WIll be coming back to this resort every year and will likely stay in these villas again.
