“tired and shabby!”
Reviewed September 8, 2012

Just back from this hotel. It is very tired and shabby and desperately needs a refab. The food is so-so, though its always best to walk into town for dinner. The pool is the only redeeming feature. The slides keep the children amused for hours but the spiral one is broken and has a nasty ledge near the end which injured us all. Our room was cleaned daily but was pretty basic and cramped with four.
The kids loved the childrens disco and the Italian entertainment. However there is no kids club as advertised.
Wouldnt stay here again

Stayed at Asteras for a week in June witth my boyfriend - Hotel was very clean, tidy and definatley 4 star standard, arrived very late (1.30am ish) and the Night Porter was very welcoming, helpful and served us drinks and a meal upon our arrival. Room was pristine and clean, fresh sheets and toiletries changed every day. Had an amazing view from our balcony of the sea which was mesmerising and very peaceful. Food was lovely, no complaints there, some abit repetative but just what you would expect for All Inclusive but still loved every single meal time. Chef would come out to be there for anyone who had any questions about the food which I thought was quite nice. Beer and wine was lovely, not watered down like alot of hotels do! Hotel Manager was often around and always welcoming (brought us some shots/drinks on occasions). Bar Staff very friendly! Pool was clean and so was the pool bar area. Very short walk to the beach and 10 min walk into Kardamena village where it had plentiful bars, shops and restuarants, all lovely! Oh and you can use the ATMS there! Apart from the lack of entertainment at the hotel I really cannot fault this place, we had an amazing time and was very sad to leave! We would definatley stay at Asteras again and would recommend it...I will upload pics to show you just how lovely the place really is! Mel & Ben, Milton Keynes.

My partner and I have just returned from Kos We arrived at this hotel at approx 1:00am to find there were other people already at reception complaining. The rooms were not clean and disgusting and one young woman with a young daughter had to clean her own room so she could go to sleep.

We have a used wine glass still on bedside cabinet green liquid still on our dressing table. The restaurant tables still had uncleared plates and food left on them. There were no receptionists only what we now know was a barman that was trying to cover as they had no staff. The so called manager was just walking around with his head in his hands saying 'Chaos, Chaos' Just like manuel from Fawltey Towers.
Our Garden view was a car park where the delivery lorrys turned up at 6.30 am in the morning.
We stayed one night ON TOP OF OUR BEDS and now the tour operator want about £240 we have paid twice for our holiday to be moved.
I will be suing our tour company and have lots of photos his of this place.
DO NOT GO THERE IT IS A HOLIDAY FROM HELL

AS FOR THE TOUR OPERATOR I WILL NOT PRINT THEIR NAME UNTIL I SUCCESFULLY SUE THEM THEN I WILL PUT OUR COMMENTS ON TRIP ADVISOR.

So that it doesnt ruin anyone elses holiday and wasting hard earned cash if you going to this resort and flying by Small Planet Airlines BE WARNED

Just had a weeks holiday here, weather fantastic! the resort is no way a 4 star 2/3 at best. The food...pasta, pasta, pasta! lots of frozen corn, sprouts, mixed veg! chicken wings! instant whip and Jelly with squirty cream! anything that is left will be turned into some kind of bake with more pasta in it! they are running the place on a shoestring budget, hardly any staff just students who where run off their feet. It is a shame because it could be so much better.
The drink...Watered down beer, wine and fizzy drinks.
No frills here what so ever!

Overall holiday was ok but don't go if you don't like ouzo, brandy, wine or beer all inc is meant to mean everything included. We complained and the reception manager thrust a copy of the contract with the holiday provider under our nose and said see its in the small print !!!!! Errr rude! There was no entertainment in the evenings and eventually there was kids club entertainers all the announcements are done in another language so not all the kids can even understand the activities that are going on. The food was ok but same everyday with not much variation not really anything for kids fries etc, not sure I would return when we were leaving we were totally ignored bit like we'd had your money now bugger off !!!

Room Tip: Read the small print

I went to Karda Garden Village (now renamed Asteras Resort) mid June 2012 with my girlfriend. As we had a very limited budget we were over the moon when we got told we could get a deal with an all inclusive 4 star hotel. Unfortunately, it felt much more like a 3 star. We'll start with the positives:

Hotel rooms: I've been to several 4 star hotels before across Europe and the hotel rooms at Asteras Resort really are very nice. The rooms are all very clean and nicely decorated. There is air conditioning in every room, however it is capped at 18°C. This wouldn't be a problem, but the fans aren't the best so it can take an hour or more for a humid room to cool down.

The pool: It's fantastic. It's big with plenty of sunbeds and two small flumes which are good fun - but probably more of a benefit to families with small children. The pool bar is open until 6pm which includes ice cream until 4pm.

The drinks: The only drinks available are beer, white wine, red wine, ouzo and brandy - so there is not a big choice at all. You can get other drinks, but be prepared to pay. Despite the very limited to drinks menu, the bar staff are very good and for the most part friendly. Unlike other all inclusive hotels, the staff are not stingy, if you ask for 6 drinks, you'll probably get all 6 - no questions asked.

The food: One of the main disappointments, The food is extremely limited in selection and by the end of a week it doesn't just become tedious, it becomes repulsive. There is a selection of potatoes, rice and pasta/spaghetti every day for lunch and tea. There are then 3 other hot mains for lunch and tea which is generally chicken in a sauce, beef in a sauce and then something exotic (squid, calamari). Breakfast is boiled eggs in their shells, tomatoes, cheap tasting baked beans and bacon (which is always a bit odd abroad) and then a continental selection (cheese, hams, bread). As well as being limited, there are no labels whatsoever, I was in a big shock one night chewing on what I thought was chicken to see what resembled a tentacle on my plate. Unpleasant, to say the least. The actual quality of food is average. There is also some salad available and a very limited desert stand (usually jelly, 2 choices of fruit and some moose/cream). Also, the chefs don't speak English, so they can't tell you what you're eating either. Don't come to this hotel if you're a fan of good quality food.

Entertainment: Here's the bad news - there isn't any entertainment. When we asked why there wasn't entertainment they said "we're waiting for the Italians to arrive". I have no idea when 'the Italians' will be arriving, but it just shows how much the owners value their British customers.

Location: The bio for this hotel says 'a 10 minute walk'. This is true, but it's a 10 minute walk to the outskirts of Kardamena, there is one beach bar between the hotel and the village - it's a long walk in 30 degree heat. This was a problem as it took a lot of effort to get away from the hotel - and was only really an option in the evenings. Luckily, as explained earlier, the pool was very good.

Kardamena: I'm sure many people reading this review will be wondering how expensive Kardamena is, so I'll add this to the review. To those wondering how the Greek economy will effect your holiday - it's expensive. Exchange rates are quite good at the moment, but you'll pay more in Kos for drinks than you would in the UK (maybe with the exception of central London). An average beer is €4 and a cocktails are generally €7, but we found some as cheap as €5 on the outskirts.Food is similar to the UK, a meal for two with tips and 1 starter to share came to €40. However, the local restaurants are very good (visit Pelagos and Avli).

Kos is a lovely island, albeit expensive at the moment, and Asteras Resort is an average hotel. For those looking for a reasonably priced all inclusive, it's all you could ask for. Those thinking they'll be saving a bit of money by going to this opposed to a different 4 star - you get what you pay for.
