My partner and I travelled to the Cara Beach Hotel, Kos with Thomson at the end of June 2010 on a half board basis (thank god!)

The Hotel / Pool - The hotel is lovely and clean. Very modern and stylish. A high proportion of guests were German. The pools are clean, but freezing cold. The rooms were a generous size, with an, how can I put it; interesting bathroom concept (I wouldn’t advise if you’re planning on taking your mates) you might see abit more than you bargained for!! See through shower! huumm!! The maids changed our towels daily and made a good job of cleaning the whole room. Sun lounger issues! For some reason people see the need to be absent from their sun lounger and reserve them for the whole day, there is a sign, but like anyone takes any notice!! In my opinion the implementation of this policy should have been maintained by staff. I would have got the towels etc off the sun loungers and made a huge pile for the ignorant idiots to pick up later!!

The Food/ Restaurant
Your mission if you choose to accept it -
Identify your target.
Stalk your target. Don’t let them out of your sight.
Watch over your target whilst eating.
Ask some rude/pointless questions.
Swipe targets plate within 0.01 seconds of target putting your knife and fork down
Or
Swipe targets plate when they are still eating that meal, your choice

Yes, the Restaurant is run like a military operation. They must have one pushy manager! Fair enough you don’t want plates hanging around too long, but I’m sure it wouldn’t be the end of the world if the waitresses didn’t go around stalking guests and watching over them like hawks, its rather off putting when you’re sitting there having a rest from eating and they swipe your plate from right under your nose before you have even finished, but it didn’t just happen once it was all the time, and got quite irritating. I found the question one waitress asked quite intrusive, my partner decided not to have a meal one evening and came down to sit with me and we were promptly greeted by a stern 'Are you not eating anything', well that’s just rude and none of your business!!
Food was laid out in a small buffet style, which consisted of the same food each dinner and night with slight variations on the same food. I was actually quite glad we decided not to pay extra for all inclusive, as it would have been too much of the same thing. The breakfast meal was the only meal with variation. The quality of the food was average.

Reception (If you can call it that)
Well, well, well! Reception. Where do I start, this really let the hotel down. We arrived, like every other guest tired, hungry and irritable. Checked in. Fine. At least they knew how to do that! We were then kept waiting for half an hour, after previously being quoted five minutes for a man to take our bags up to the room. He must have gone to Greek Mainland or something because he never appeared. After the half an hour we informed reception we would do it ourselves, so hungry, tired and irritable we trekked up a steep hill and took our suitcases to the room ourselves. Second encounter, we wanted to hire a buggy from 'Peters' who we both would recommend. So off we went to reception, apparently they didn’t know how to and when to contact 'Peters' to make a booking, no phone number to contact them on, no nothing, even though the bikes and buggies from the company are all lined up outside their hotel!! How ridiculous! There is also an office in their hotel where the company takes its bookings! They didn’t even point this out to us; we discovered it whilst walking past.

Third encounter. This is the one that makes my blood boil and the main reason I have done this review. On departure we were left waiting outside. Our coach pick up advertised on the Thomson board as 6.55. This had not been changed and was 6.40 (Quite bad really!) After standing there for at least half an hour/ forty minutes my boyfriend went to reception to ask if they could contact Thomson to ask where the coach was. It turned out our flight was delayed by three hours. So there was me fing and blinding about Thomson. Spoke to the coach driver and Thomson rep about the delay and it turned out Thomson had rang and faxed Carda Beach Reception to tell them that the flight was delayed and they had not passed it on to us!! I was fuming. We then asked Reception a couple of hours later to check the flight, again met with general arsyness and rude manners they informed us it was a 12.00 flight 15 mins before the time stated before, my boyfriend asked if the coach would be coming at the same time and was snapped at yes the same time I told you before. How rude. The receptionists knowledge and manners were disgusting, not what you would expect from an expensive four star hotel. Another classic - What time does the gym/spa open - I THINK the spa opens at 8. You THINK! You should know, I know in my job if I made vast assumptions and delivered I THINK verdicts on everything I would have a bollocking.
If integral information like flight delays is not passed on, who knows what else could/ would go wrong, it makes me wonder if anything did happen, like a medical emergency would they end up ringing the local take away instead of the ambulance service. Food for thought.

Spent week at Carda Beach and had very good stay, friendly polite and helpful staff, exellent room with free safe and air con. plus fridge that had water supplied every day along with tea/coffee. Linen was changed during week and if towels left as directed they were changed. Found food to be fine and only on last day had to wait ten minutes for a table in the evening, The bar could be busy but have waited far longer in a British pub!!!!!Gym was one of the best that I have found in a hotel, towel supplied and equipment cleaned after each use. Pool area excellent with no problems of getting sun loungers. Given the price we paid it was a great value holiday, for the usual "moaners" if you want top of the range food, accomodation, facilities then be prepared to pay through the nose for it, especially those who "like to be served".

We had high hopes of this hotel, especially for the money we paid. Unfortunately our hopes were soon dashed.. After a 4 hour delay from the UK we arrived at the hotel at 2.30am. We were given our room key and some vauge directions. We discovered our room was at the very top of a steep incline with no lift!! Not a good start. Room was OK, a little worn though.
During our week long stay there was no change of bed linen or towels, we had to ask for fresh towels. The food ........ what can I say, repetative, cold and certainly not good quality. If you ate later you were lucky to get anything, mainly scraps. Only one bar in the evening with one girl serving and onother girl shuffling glasses! so difficult trying to get a drink, especially towards the end of the week when the hotel became more busy.
After a lot of complaining we managed to book for both Italian and chineese restaurants .. DONT BOTHER, the food was of the same low quality. The only positive was that you were served.
We spoke to a lot of people there and they all felt the same, some went into Kardamena to eat, but it was expensive. Also the road that you walk down is dangerous and not lit at night.
We went to the spa, but the jaccuzi was broken, no sign to say so, no staff around to ask about the facilities, never went back.
It's a real shame as this could be a great hotel if it was managed better. It is quiet during the day, virtually no children, and plenty of sun beds, but that's it. This hotel is running on minimum staff and poor quality food.
NEVER AGAIN!!!

Stayed at Carda Beach for 1 week with my boyfreind and we both loved it!

We originally had a pool/sea view room but we decided to upgrade to a suite
with a shared pool........well worth the extra money.
Room was large a lounge, flat screen tv(only 2 English channels) a seperate bedroom with king size bed(very comfy) his and hers wardrobes! big bathroom with his and hers sinks, walk in shower and seperate toilet. We had a terrace which was lovely and went
straight out to the big swimming pool.
There is a safety deposit box which is free of charge.

Each suite has 2 nice padded comfy sunloungers you only share the pool with
7 other suites so was never busy.
We sat around the main pool once & it was very busy as this is mainly a German hotel
so get those towels down early!! The main pools are gorgeous & really spacious.

We went for the half board option as we love Greek food and love to eat out (try Avli in main Kardamena square-amazing food) you get vouchers to use for meals so if you
want to eat out in the eve you can use the voucher for the buffet lunch which we did a lot.
The food was always fresh and lots of choice.

Location is great, only 10mins from the airport, we got a taxi for 15 Euros. Turn left out of
hotel and 15-20mins walk takes you to the centre of Kardamena where there are lots
of bars and restaurants. Music in the bars is switched off at midnight so head to a
club if u like partying longer!
Best cocktails are served at the Garden bar near the end of the strip, freshly made with
premium spirits, lots to choose from, great prices & properly made!!

The staff at the hotel were always really helpful, restaurant staff work really hard as do
the reception staff.
Our flight back was in the eve so we asked if we could keep our room on later than midday, unfortunatly the hotel was full so they offered us a room at the sister hotel Mikri Poli next door for 25 Euros which we took. the room was awful, would not stay there for
a week!!

We also hired a car for the day from the hotel for 40 Euros and went to Kos town, its def worth a visit.

We had a brilliant time at this hotel and would recommed it.

Just back from a really good weeks stay in this hotel (temp reached 44 most days ! ) & would like to add my opinion to the many posted on here.
FIrstly the rooms which were big ,well laid out (once you get over the novelty of a see through glass panel..see pics ) ,nice hot shower (wet room) cleaned every day & ample wardrobe space and a free electronic safe.. my only bugbear would be that theres not really any english channels on the tv.
The pools are massive with sunbeds not really all taken until about 11 & then people move on in the afternoon so more beds do free up. The poolbar was fine & the staff really friendly with rolls.. toasties and cakes available.
We found that all the meals including breakfast lunch & dinner were again all of a decent quality with a grill chef doing meat & fish at lunch/dinner and pancakes & fried eggs at breakfast, only minor negative was that yes the orange juice does taste watered down.
The bar area does fill up quite quicly at night though to be fair we didnt get there till after 9.30 most nights & the bar service is a bit hit or miss & you can wait a while to be served.
Its about a 20 minute walk into town along the coastal road & Kardamena itself is ok with the usual splattering of bars.. music bars & shops with one small area of decent beach & in fact the hotels beach is fairly narrow with many rocks that sandbags have been placed over to enable a slip free (hopefully) entry into the sea.
Going back to the hotel one thing that must be mentioned is thats its built into a hill & is VERY much a fairly steep climb up to your room.
On summing up id say that this is a good 4 * hotel.. well run with very friendly helpful staff & the guests are mainly german but we found them to be fine & we would definately return here

Very nice modern hotel in quiet location. Rooms are very nice (we had a suite with shared pool). This was definitely worth paying the extra for us to be able to use our own pool and the very comfortable padded sun-loungers, and not have to worry about getting a good spot around the pool. Room had walk-in shower, two sinks, separate bedroom, small plasma tv with CD/DVD, tea and coffee making facilities and mini bar/fridge. Decent hairdryer was also supplied. The shower was not brilliant but adequate. Shampoo/shower gel supplied. Rooms and hotel were kept very clean. Nice furniture supplied on patio/balcony. Food was good. Village less than 10 minutes walk away if you want lively night life e.g. Bar Street, something for all ages. Lovely marina/harbour with bars and restuarants. Lots of tacky touristy shops but a few very nice shops, chemist etc. Resort needs some tlc but work was being done to improve/tidy the beach area and install much needed street lighting while we were there. The beach is very rocky/stoney and beach shoes are a must! If you walk along the beach from the hotel towards the village you can find nicer areas to get into the water for a swim. The water is crystal clear. There are nicer beaches in Kos but this resort has a rustic charm if you can overlook some of the neglected areas. Hotel is about 20 minutes from the airport. Warning - the beds are rock hard. I asked if they had any softer mattresses and was told that they are all the same. Also, the hotel is built into a steep hill. If you are at the top, as we were, there is no lift and as someone with a back problem, I had some difficulty with this. If you book here and mobility is a problem ,make sure that you request a room that is lower down. The bar is badly managed and quite chaotic. We gave up and only used it a couple of times because of the poor service/lack of adequate staff. The hotel has three other large pools which we did not use because we had use of a shared pool. There are also lots of sun-loungers so no worries about not getting a sun-lounger at this hotel. There is no entertainment at this hotel. Generally, very pleasant staff throughout the hotel. There is a very nice bar/restaurant right on the sea-front, on right-hand-side as you walk into the village from hotel. It always seemed empty which is a shame, we received great service and good value. They even have sun-loungers that you can use to take a dip in the sea etc.(see photos). We were half board but most guests seemed to be all-inclusive. This seemed to confuse the staff at times.I would recommend this hotel if you like a very firm mattress. I would return if they could guarantee me a comfortable bed! Hotel has a spa. Treatments are expensive. If you wish to use steam room or sauna this must be booked in advance.

We had a suite with a sharing pool, the room was really the best room i have ever stopped in anywhere in the world. The hotel is spotless and the staff do work really hard. The hotel is a short walk into Kardamena along a road with a really poor and unlit pavement - this was interesting at night. Now the food - terrible!. The breakfast was the only reasonable thing to eat. The lunch seemed to be the previous evenings reheated food and the evening meal and lunch choice was really small and the quantities were also small for a 200 room hotel that was food. I never had a warm meal in the hotel. The snacks consist of cakes and stale cobs at the pool bar. The only bar open in the evening is in the main reception area. You have to see the farce that this bar is to beleive it. The bar staff work hard but there isnt enough staff and the bar area just isnt big enough. You could very easily wait 15 minutes for a drink. This hotel is certainly geared towards German guests, also I could never find the promised entertainment in the hotel. I would not return here but Kardamena seemed nice with some very nice restaurants along the sea front that only made the hotel food look worse. Go to Kardamena but go Bed and breakfast or self catering.
