Having spent two fabulous weeks at this hotel in October 2012, we decided for a quick one break break in May 2013 and weren't disappointed. Great service, facilities, food and together with perfect weather for us averaging around 27c-31c during the day and 20c-18c at night, we had a very relaxing time.

This hotel is situated in a quiet part of Kos and generally speaking is frequented by couples and is not big on entertainment, which suits us fine.

That said, we did notice a marked increase in the number of visitors from Russia, most of whom would benefit from a weeks course in etiquette.

The staff here are amazing without exception, but a special thanks must go out to Karina in the beach bar who always has a smile and happy approach to the guests and her work.

The summarise, if you are looking for a value for money break you would be hard pushed to beat a visit to this hotel.

Upon arrival we both immediately relaxed but the lovely hotel and surroundings, what a lovely place. The restaurants and food were amazing and staff could not do enough for you.
If you have trouble with stairs do not book this hotel, the hotel is built into the hills in layers and there are four sets of stairs to beach and lots of steps to get to rooms. Rooms were lovely, clean and very large and nice. Kardamena is a young resort in July and August but off peak a lovely sleepy fishing village. The beach is small and rocky but lovely all the same. The hotel is under the flight path so expect a few planes. We loved Kos and this hotel so much we would go back.
Hotel needs to work on its entertainment but it did not worry us as we sipped a cocktail and watched the sun go down.

My wife and I stayed at the Porto Bello Royal hotel for seven days, from May 12th until May 19th.
With 14 or 15 swimming pools (some of which have jacuzzis), a private beach, five restaurants and three bars, this resort is the perfect place for a carefree all-inclusive getaway.
The location is perfect: at about 10 minutes from the airport and if you rent a car like we did, everything worth seeing on the island of Kos is less than 20 miles away.
The buffet food in the main restaurant was so good we never even cared to try one of the a la carte restaurants. The (cocktail) bars were amazing. The service everywhere was stylish but warm and always came with a smile. Even the room maids were very jovial.
Any minuses? No, except perhaps that our room (116) was anything but soundproof which was not really an issue between 11pm and 7am as the whole place was very quiet then, except for one or two loud boozy conversations of some of the numerous Russian hotel guests.
Every night we could hear music and cheering from the open-air theatre not too far from our room but everything stopped at 10:30, 11pm. At 7 in the morning it sounded like all the furniture in the entire breakfast room which was located right above our heads was moved around by poltergeists, so we never needed to set the alarm.
Anyway, do not let this keep you from staying at the Porto Bello Royal if you want to visit Kos. It is in many ways the finest hotel we have ever been to and it is likely to stay at the top of our all-time favourites list forever. Efharisto, Atlantica!

Room Tip: Try to stay away from the left wing of the main building (open-air theatre and breakfast room) unles...

Dear Guest,
On behalf of the management and all the staff I would like to thank you for your review.
Your opinion makes us feel very proud, as we are trying very hard to fulfill our guests’ expectations.
I want to apologize for any inconvenient caused by the fact that your room was quite noisy during the mealtime in the Main Restaurant. I’ve already informed our Maintenance Manager to stick some soundproofing pads to the chairs in order to reduce the noise.
Thank you ones again- your comment was very helpful.

Just returned from 2week stay at this hotel 22/5/14. This holiday we class as our main break and choose wisely wanting quality. We upgraded to a junior suite (616) and must say worth it for our view over looking the sea, and pool area. Also if their is more than two of you plenty of space as there is 2 rooms. C.D Player in the room. T.V only BBC News and CNN in English. We know you don't go on holiday to watch T.V, but it would be nice to watch something other than repetitive news channels, especially when entertainment is so poor. Mini bar not replenished which is disappointing because we believe all rooms should have drinks and drink making facilities available at all times in 5* accommodation. Pool areas as described and pictured, however cleaning of these areas not up to 5* standard and we did have to complain as they were very dirty with insects and bird droppings all over-not good when stood in. Empty bottles and cups left on the walls for as long as 3days. I even put these in the bin and cleaned the area myself before matters where addressed. Not enough ashtrays around the complex. Dining Breakfast was definitely best choice for quality. Food was poor in quality, repetitive, and either cold or luke warm. A microwave available. Fish and Greek restaurants only open at lunch time 12.30-2pm reservation have to be made the day before. From 2.30pm to 7pm the only food available is sandwiches - very plain and bland, cake and biscuits. During our second week they started doing toasties at the beach bar. Bars - Lobby only open in the evening from 6pm service extremely poor had to wait over half hour to be served, no atmosphere or ambience. Guy playing his organ repetitive sounds. Pool bar got served quicker, but seating was what all had sat on during the day in swimwear great, entertainment cd playing. Beach bar opened second week in the evening as a disco lol. Well that is what it was a joke laser lights, a lot of smoke and animation team having a good time. Again seating area what people had sat in during the day in swimwear. Main evening entertainment was in the Amphitheatre no drinks available and poor amateur acts. Now you see why T.V would be good in English. The hotel needs lots of attention to detail if to be classed as 5* Platinum. A special mention to Karina beach bar excellent personality and interpersonal skills keep it up love lol. Stayed at better 4* Greece. Met a lovely couple Les n Karen. Hope your Cecil keeping well lol.

Room Tip: Junior suites sea and pool views

Dear Guest,
Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback regarding our hotel.
Your opinion is very important, and helps us to improve the quality standards.
I am pleased that you were satisfied with your room with direct sea view.
Concerning the T.V. channels, as you might notice our hotel is international with guests from more than 10 countries. We are trying to provide two channels in each language and this is the reason of the limited quantity of English channels.
I agree with you that one of them should be an entertainment one (we will be sure to add one of the most popular in England).
Regarding the Mini Bar- the type of room (Junior Suite) and rate that you chose and paid for includes replenishment of the Mini Bar only upon your arrival, (this information is given to every guest while booking their holidays) moreover, there is an option of having the Mini Bar filled and replenished on a daily basis with an additional charge. There is also a Mini Market in the hotel open until 11pm, as well as three bars and one gelateria with all-inclusive selection of refreshments open all day long for our guests.
Regarding the cleanliness of the pool areas, we have 3 employees working straight shift to clean around, as well as genitors collecting bottles, glasses and emptying ashtrays at least twice a day. I apologize for the fact that you have found a few glasses around the pool, we can guarantee they were not going to be there for long as we are conscious about keeping the areas clean and beautiful.
I am sad to hear that you didn’t enjoy our food, which, concerning other guests opinions, is our strong point, but this is a matter of taste and opinion of course.
We cannot agree with the opinion that the food was repetitive, as we have 14 days changing program, which was worked out very carefully without repetitions in food preparation. We have minimum six show cooking stations where grilled meat, vegetables, fish, and pizza are offered daily. We have been praised continuously for our carving meal, pancakes, selection of more than twenty kinds of bread and sweet (home made by our specialists) and four times a week thematic evenings (Italian, Greek, American and Mediterranean) and much more…
The Main Bar in the Lobby area due to the poor weather condition in May might be little crowded in the peak time and I apologize if you had to wait to be served.
There are also a Pool Bar and Beach Bar to choose from. We don't seem to understand what is wrong in using the same chairs on the day and night shift? Is there a 5* hotel which changes the chairs at the bars twice a day?
In the Beach Bar we have a Disco Evenings with a DJ and the Animation Team is always there to provide a good time, as you said, for the purpose to encourage our guests to dance and have fun.
Concerning drinks in the Amphitheatre, the consumption is not allowed for security reason. We have a lot of children and the place is dark during the show, we want to keep it safe and not have any accidents.
I’m pleased that your came in contact with Karina and I will be sure to thank her personally for this.
I am certainly disappointed that your stay was not all that it could have been.
We are more than 250 staff members working hard to fulfill our guests’ expectations; where we strive to have continuous high satisfaction.
We are truly sorry to be labeled as a 3* hotel but of course we respect your opinion.
We would love to have a chance to change your opinion, so fell free to contact us through Trip Advisor, or directly at info@portobelloroyal.gr.

We stayed at this hotel for the for the first 2 weeks in May 2013. Our room was high up with a fantastic sea view (515). The first week we were plagued by flying beetles who swarmed all over the balcony and stuck to anything and anyone who came near so it was out of bounds for the first week. By the second week they seemed to have mostly gone, (something to do with the mating season I believe)
I can only agree with others, the hotel lives up to its 5* rating for cleanliness, courtesy, friendliness & professionalism of the staff. The food is varied and delicious , my waistline is testament to that. If you went into the lobby bar early about 8 ish service was very quick and barmen Galtiosh and Armen were great. After 9 if you managed to get a seat you were lucky. The waitresses, Rada in particular were run of their feet but Rada always managed to keep up her beautiful smile , she is an asset to the hotel. The first week there was a large wasted area at the far end of the lobby bar. We would ask why there were no tables and chairs there when people were stood up, and they were so obviously needed. By the middle of the second week 3/4 tables and chairs arrived, I suspect from the outside balcony. I know it was the first weeks of the season but there seemed to be a great shortage of staff, one could wait for 15 mins to get a drink after 9 in the lobby bar.
Entertainment : organist/ singer, whilst he was a good singer, we were bored after an hour, he had no personality at all and sang the same songs every night. Better entertainment is needed.
Each of the13 pools were lovely and clean but sooo cold.

I like Atlantica Hotels but would not return to this one, simply because there was nothing at all to do after 8pm. I feel another bar is needed. The lobby bar and seating area were always full and to sit outside by the pool bar in May was really quite cold.

Room Tip: There are a great many steps around the resort so if you have any walking problems you need to be a...

Stayed here for a week in September 2012 and just considering booking up for this year.
Very picturesque setting lovely coloured buildings - reminds you a little of Port Meirion where they originally filmed The Prisoner.
Spotlessly clean - exceptionally friendly, helpful staff and very good food.
I think we preferred the Asian restaurant but they were all good.
We didn't use the beach much as there are umpteen pools to choose from - no shortage of sun beds.
recommended.

We stayed for 1 week in May and have to say the pictures of the grounds, swimming pools and rooms etc all live up to exactly what you see in the photos are we're not a disappointment.

Unfortunately there are a few gripes with this hotel which we felt were down to the hotel running with limited staff which means it falls short of the 5* as it is advertised. I must stress that the staff we experienced were excellent but clearly very overworked.

There are 3 bars at the resort. The main lobby bar which is the only place you can get wi-fi but it didn't open until 6pm so in the day if you wanted to use the wi-fi you had to walk down 4 big flights of stairs and outside to get a drink. In the evening after 8pm it was full and you could not get a seat so often we went back to the room! If you did manage to get a seat, you had to endure the most terrible evening entertainment ever (which everyone was complaint about)! A man playing an organ 7 nights a week, the same songs every night...We were not expecting anything major but this was so dull it sent you to sleep and they really need to improve this as it lets the hotel down. Two evenings we had to wait over 25 minutes to get a drink which you don't expect at a 5* resort so unless they get more staff, I can this wait time increasing as the season gets busier!

The other bars were more day time ones, one next to the beach and one next to the main swimming pools. Again nice bars but very short staffed and no wi-fi.

The food was of a good standard and there were choices for veggies however a major issue is they don't label the food so often you didn't really know what some of the main courses were. We had a veggie in our party so this did cause problems and its something they can resolve quickly.

We used the Italian and Greek al la carte and both were of similar standard to the main restaurant but it was nice to have a change of scenery.

The pools were amazing and it was fairly easy to get sun beds however I suspect in main season this may be more of a challenge! We used the indoor pool too which was freezing but it was lovely and quiet!

The rooms were of a good standard but the housekeeping of the rooms was a little hit and miss. We were in a royal suite and were supposed to get daily soft drinks and water but they kept forgetting so we had to keep phoning reception. They didn't seem to sweep the floors of our room for the duration of our stay and things like the bins were not emptied or surfaces cleaned. Only minor things but again not quite 5* star standard.

Finally the location is great for a quiet break. It is about a 30 min walk to Kardamena which we found to be quite run down and mainly closed! There is a free hotel shuttle bus about 6 times a day although we got a taxi back and this cost 9 euro. There didn't seem much to do in Kardamena so if you want to explore or go somewhere more lively then you will need to head to Kos Town.

All in all, a lovely relaxing holiday at a good hotel which could have been amazing with more staff and better entertainment etc. however that said it wasn't massively expensive so you pay for what you get.

Room Tip: We had royal suite 221 which over looked the main swimming pools and had sea views from the side. Go...

Dear Guest,
Thank you for your feedback and I do apologies that we did not live up to the usual excellent standards that the majority of reviewers at Trip Advisor talk about.
Regarding the entertainment issue we have already made some changes to the music program in the Main Bar. Except that, our Animation Team is organizing a Disco Nights at the Beach Bar.
The experience with the housekeeping you described is not characteristic of the level of service we provide and we have taken appropriate action to resolve this problem.
