“Nice hotel but beware the Black Bands .....”
Reviewed November 6, 2012

Apologies for the late review, as we holidayed in July of this year but just felt I had to write this as we had a rather unpleasant experience which almost ruined our holiday.

Before booking the holiday I was aware that the Norida beach was amongst a complex of other Mitsis hotels and was rated a 4star with the Blue Domes rated a 5star. On arrival we dropped off at the Blue Domes first which appeared absolutely stunning on approach. However, we were not disappointed when we arrived at the Norida Beach as it semed very modern and clean.
We were checked in at reception , in the early hours of the morning,by an older chap( whose name I did not get ! ) who explained to us that our room in the Norida wasn't ready and would not be available until the following lunchtime. He stated that we would have to spend our first night in the Family village hotel and then to go back to reception the next day at 12pm to changeover. Needless to say we weren't very happy with the arrangement as we were only there for a week as a family of four and knew that this would eat into one of our precious days.
Then came his olive branch - he put "black bands" onto our wrists and asked us if we knew what these were. We said that we didn't and he explained that it meant we could eat and drink at any of the Mitsis hotel in the complex. I looked at him and asked if this included the Blue Domes and he nodded and said yes "all" of the hotels. Well, we gave him a huge grin and said in that case we would put up with the inconvenience if this was the case. We were given sandwiches and taken by buggy to the room which was lovely as it had its own pool! We would have been more thatn happy to stay there. The next day however, we went for breakfast in the Family Village restaurant( nice but small) and had a walk around until lunchtime when we could be moved. The hotel itself was lovely, a fabulous location right on the beach and very clean.

We decided to go over to the Blue Domes which we also thought was really nice and even more modern and a little more exclusive and contempory than its neighbour. We sat and had a drink by the pool and an icecream , thinking what a lovely alternative this would be for a change of scenery whilst we were there.

We finally got into our new room at the Norida Beach about 1pm and again was pleasantly surprised to be given two rooms and I think it was probably the cleanest room we had ever stayed in.T he only drawback it was at the back of the resort which was very hilly and the daily trek in 40 degree heat was almost unbearable.

By the time we got out to the pool side there were no sunbeds available and we noticed a serious lack of these , which was a shame because as a family we like to be by the pool. There is a lot of grassed area but no sunbeds allowed. We therefore, ended up on the beach on numerous occasions unless we managed to secure a bed early enough.

The second day we decided to walk along the beach again to the Blue Domes for a drink and another icecream. This is where the nightmare began. We sat in exactly the same spot as the previous day and my husband went to the bar to order his drinks. He came back looking rather embarrassed and said that despite him showing his black wrist band the barman refused to serve him. I marched straight over to the bar rather annoyed and explained to the barman exactly what the chap at the Norida had told us. He retorted , in a rather aggressive tone that he did not care what we had been told but they were a five star plus hotel and basically we weren't welcome. Well, I can honestly say in many , many years of travelling as a family and also as a couple I have never been so humiliated. I told him I would take it up with the Manager.
We basically spent the rest of the afternoon trying to sort , with no sign of the original man who gave us the black bands and everyone else denying all knowledge of the situation. I decided to not pursue it any further as it was just spoiling our precious holiday but it left me feeling very bitter for the rest of the week.

In summary - the rest of the holiday as follows:

Room - Beautiful
Cleanliness - excellent
Location - Fabulous
Food - Very good but lack of air con in restaurant. Hotdogs available at small pool and beach
Entertainment - Average - in a separate building up a hill from the hotel so not ideal
Swimming pools - Nice but one salt water - took some getting used to by children
Water slides - a little grotty and poor location
Beach - lovely
Hotel terrace - Good atmosphere to sit on after dinner
Service - Restaurant staff very friendly.

Overall I would rate the hotel a 3 star plus, with 4 star rooms and setting !
Just do not get conned into the black band scenario as I believe has also happened to some other reviewers since we went.

Great complex, extremely clean. Food always fresh and cooked well - even the vegtables were crisp (so unusual) We will be going back. It is quite a walk into town, and a tad isolated - didn't bother us as we went for a rest. The trips are a good idea

Room Tip: ask for a seaview - well worth it

Had the best time there, the staff are all very friendly and helpful.Rooms are beautiful and cleaned everyday with the mini bar stocked up daily as well. The building itself was clean and gave off a friendly and comfortable vibe. The food was always nice and the good thing about the location was that it was near the sea and not too far from the main village.Definitely staying there again next year.

My friend and I had a wonderful week at Norida. The hotel has a beautiful location by the sea, the room was very nice and clean with a wonderful view overlooking the sea and the pool area. We had a wonderful time relaxing by the pools, or at the beach. But best of all was the staff, making our stay perfect. I don’t know how they manage to work all day and still be so polite, friendly and professional. We had a wonderful time, making a lot of new friends with some of the other guests, the staff and the wonderful animation team.

On arriving at Mitsis Norida Beach, Hotel looked lovely even though it was middle of the night, We were shown to our room by a member of staff that drove the buggy at 100 miles an hr, We had amazing room 227 overlooking the pool & beach room was spotless & very spacious. Room cleaned everyday & mini bar stocked everyday. Breakfast was mainly eggs, cereal, not a great choice & continued that way throughout the week. Lunch & evening meal was basically PORK! more PORK! there was fresh pizza's cooked which were lovely, but it became a standard joke between everybody, how many different ways can you cook PORK! We got fed up in the middle of the week and went into Kardamina & had lovely meals. Staff at reception were rude & patronizing, Bar staff were just Ignorant, entertainment? We never saw any? There was a karaoke night which guests sung & it was brilliant. Restaurant staff some were polite but most were just out of order we were told by other holiday makers that staff were so miserable as they had not been paid since July. That was not our problem but to be civil to holiday makers would have been nice. After all we paid to be there, Beach Bar was the place to be lots of entertainment with the bar man friendly, polite, always a welcoming smile. Pool Bar closed on Day 2, staff started to take umbrella's down, Bins were overflowing, closed the outside Dining area, pool was littered with papers Pool area was not cleaned, Seats in the corridors were taken away, fire extinguishers were taken away even the numbers on the rooms were taken, sunbeds were getting few & far between, all in all it felt as if basically they wanted you out asap. Appreciated it was the end of the season but if we were told we would never have gone to Greece. All in all we made the best of what we had & did have a good laugh about it all But myself & our party of 8 will never go back to Greece again. I wouldn't reckon mend Mitsis Norida Beach Hotel Overall rating a basic 3* Defiantly not a 5* as it says.

This was our first time at this hotel, our first impression of it was very good, sandwiches on arrival as it was late at night, we were allocated a room in the main building which we requested a week before arriving. The food was very repetitive, and definitely not 5 star food, I think the reason was because the hotel was due to close a week after we arrived. Breakfast consisted mainly of eggs, cereals, pancakes and fruit, there was no bacon, mushrooms or even tomatoes which we thought strange. The meals at lunch and in the evening were very repetitive, with either pork or veal, we never had chicken once. There was a pasta station but half way through the week the chef we were told had left. There was pizza cooked whilst you wait. The sweet courses consisted of the same sweet cakes, and icecream every night, and the fruit for 7 days was wedges of orange and apple, which we thought was very basic. If you looked at their sister hotel next door the Blue Domes, their food was amazing. All we can think of is that because they were closing in a few days, they had not ordered any more food and they were serving what they had got left. There was plenty of food, but when you were faced with pork chunks every night, you get fed up. We went to the chinese restaurant which was ok, but even they had run out of a lot on the menu. The rooms were nice and clean and had lovely views, the staff were very helpful and friendly, and at the end of the day it wasnt their fault that the food was not up to 5 star standard. A lot of guests were moved to this hotel as the summer palace, and family village that they had initially booked had closed. We also asked for a safe deposit (which is located in the bottom of the wardrobe), and we were disgusted at having to pay 26euros with no refund at the end. We asked if we could keep our room on, as we were not leaving until 10.00pm and we were told it would cost us 35 euros, even though no one else would be using the room as the hotel was closing. We found the female reception staff very rude and patronising. To sum up we enjoyed our holiday, the grounds and the pool were stunning, the weather was good, but towards the end of our week we were totally fed up with the same food every day, there was no variety at all, we think the food was 3 star standard compared to next door which was totally superior. I really dont think we would visit this hotel again.

Room Tip: We asked for a room in the main building, which was good, some of the rooms were a long way up a hil...

we stayed 21-27 oct 2012 as a couple. we arrived at 3am approx and were greeted with rolls to eat if we wanted and were promptly checked in without problem. we stayed in the main hotel building room 217 overlooking the main entrance. some reviewers have said this is noisy but we didnt find this at all, we had a beautiful room with a balcony overlooking the wonderful sprawling mountains against the backdrop of a blue sky. the air conditioning worked fine, the bathroom was clean and spacious, and the beds were amazingly comfortable (we had two singles pushed together as is normal i think) the mini bar was refilled with brand drinks every other day, maids were discrete and we hardly saw them, although beds were made each day and room swept and cleaned fresh towels every other day. this was the last week the hotel was open before end of season and so it was fairly quite, we had access to sunbeds easily, always able to eat/dit outside. we enjoyed our excursion (35 euro) with our guide constaintine to see the island of nicyros which is a volcano. we then had a free trip to kos town. we also rented a car from the hotel foyer. all these things went smoothly and all staff we were in contact with were friendly. the staff and service were superb. hotel very quiet, there was entertainment on a few night but we didnt find this overly disturbing noise wise. food was all edible but fairly samey after 4 days or so, try the pizzas and the crepes! beautiful. the salads are lovely. never had to wait for a drink, on my glass becoming empty it was magically refilled within minutes. cocktails were flavourings rather than real coconut milk or real juice etc but all the same very tasty. staff wonderful. would definately return here.
