Visited this hotel after a good holiday at the Mitsis Rodos Maris based on a good holiday and value for money. we experienced rude staff, no apologies from management, inexcusable begs in english for tips at the bar 'taped to a glass' and lack of service. Steer clear of this place! It has taken me a few years to put this review..if I hadn't had such a good time at the Rodos Maris I maybe wouldn't have taken a chance on this hotel. That said, the bracelet did get us to visit the hotel in Mitsis hotel in Kos town as part of the package and what a joy the staff there were in comparison!!

I have never written a review on a holiday before but felt after this trip I needed to. I have read many bad reports about this hotel but we had a lovely, relaxing holiday at Summer Palace. My partner and i went for a two week getaway in october 2009. The hotel is lovely and clean, clean towels and bedding everyday and room cleaned each day too. food wonderful lots of choices to suit all. Great location with outstanding veiws, out the way from town a little so need to get bus for a change of scenery. The hotel is situated in a lovely spot but you have to walk a distance to get around the complex, witch was not a problem for us but if you dont like steps could be difficult as the walk to the beach is a bit steap. As we went in october it was very quiet not just at the hotel but the whole island it did have its advantages as we was able to eat at the italian restaurant everyother night and could play tennis as much as you like no waiting for food the only bad thing we can say is in our second week we was 1 of about 5 coupples in the hotel so the food and drink was really being eaked out, everyday there was more drinks that became unavailable but we stiill had a great time but just would of liked to of known about the hotel closing we would deffently return to this hotel but not in october. Thankyou Summer Palace for a lovely holiday.

we arrived on 21/10/09 at the Summer palace to find that we were being moved to the Mitsis Norida beach instead.Upon complaing to the management they were not really interested. We were eventually after a couple of hours moved to a lower standard hotel.

My advice is not to book the Summer palace late in the season as the same will probably happen to you. There were lots of disgruntled guests that this happened to.

We arrived just before midnight, by taxi from the airport, (€20), beating those who came by coach transfer. Very glad we did because the queue at reception 45 mins later was huge! Reception staff seemed helpful, friendly and efficient. €22 for safe in room for the week isn't cheap.

Room was large, and clean, with a nice sea view, but it has definitely seen better days. There are no tea/coffee facilities in the room. There is a small fridge, in a small cupboard. This cupboard door had to be kept open all the time or the fridge gubbins overheated and nothing was cooled. Keeping this door open all week meant it worked well. As we were hardly in the room this wasn't an issue. There were a few drinks in the fridge, alcoholic and soft, which were replenished every other day. We actually had a family suite, I think, as there was a second bedroom. Though we didn't use it, the door to this room could not be fully closed because a small chest, which could go nowhere else in the room, prevented it closing. There was a TV in the main room, which could get BBC World, but the picture was terrible. There was also a radio in the main room, but it didn't work at all! The plaster in the second room was coming off in quite a few places, and only held together by the paint! The balcony was nice, but the door to it had had a glazing repair that was not carried out by someone proud of their craftsmanship! The balcony was shaded by a slatted wooded canopy that was seriously rotten in places. The mattresses were the usual greek standard; very very hard! The air conditioning unit worked, but tended to spurt dirt/dust over the bed when first started. Overall the room was ok to stay in for a week long holiday, but I wouldn't want to live in a room of that standard!

Our room was on a small corridor, off a longer corridor. When we arrived the lights were out, (broken), in these corridors. The porter has to use the light from his mobile phone to even see where the door was! Dispite repeated reporting of this, it took 3 days for this to be rectified. On each of the repeat visits to report it we were told that it had been fixed already, when it plainly hadn't!

The food was much better than expected, though it was more "International" than "Greek", with more pork than lamb. (Possibly a reflection on the large amount of German guests?) It was always fresh, and kept well topped up. The waiting staff at all three mealtimes were friendly and efficient, bringing drinks and clearing old dishes away.

The main bar only ever had one person serving, leading to long queues. This was a real issue. There is a smaller bar downstairs, only open in the evening, and we tended to use this one as service was much quicker. I hate to think was this aspect would be like during the peak!

The complex itself very "hilly", and there are a lot of steps to get to the beach. There is a small, (4 person) lift which can be used for about half of this journey, but again, during peak season it much be a nightmare waiting for it. The beach is small shingle, not sand, and the water it gets very deep very quickly!! It is clear and warm though, even in October!!

There is a small Italian "Restaurant" on site which can be booked in advance. It is small, and quite nice, but note that is is only pizza and pasta, (with a few other choices for starters), so don't expect a trattoria menu.

All in all we enjoyed our holiday there, and wouldn't dissuade anyone from going there out of season. We'd definitely avoid peak time though!

The rudest hotel manager since Basil Fawltey. We had the timerity to complain that we were given a room without a sea view,(when we had booked a room with a sea view)and were told they could not offer us one, when we asked to speak to the manager.we further requested a change of room.she said in no uncertain terms that we were not getting one,and when my wife said she would complain when she got home, the manageress claimed my wife was trying to blackmail her,and called my wife a liar(her words)In genral the staff were grumpy especially reception staff.Although it was an all inclusive holiday it costs 22euros per week for a safe, and 35euros to extend my room, from midday to 7pm as we were not picked up for airport transfer untill8.30pm,for a 23.30 flight
