“Lovely Break”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 5, 2014

Being my first holiday with my boyfriend I wanted to go somewhere I had been before and that I knew was nice. Having got back last week we had a lovely time and it was a great holiday.

Food - the food was really nice, they offered a wide variety of foods to cater for everyone. The hotel has 2 al a carte restaurants an Italian and a Greek both of which we visited and if we stayed longer would have gone again because the food was so nice.

Rooms - the room was cleaned daily with fresh towels and sheets the maids were always friendly and polite.

Lobby - great for meeting new people, we found there were probably less English there compared to German's and Russian's. This wasn't really an issue as most can speak basic English.

Internet - the free wifi is ok. If your not going on holiday to go on the internet then this isn't an issue. If you however would like to check your Facebook may I advise you do it in the morning or very late at night as around tea time is when it is at its slowest and sometimes doesn't even connect.

Beach - there is access to sun beds and free activities on the beach. Don't be tricked by the photos this isn't a sandy beach, it is gravel/stones which is brill for our feet as they feel super soft after a walk up the beach.

This being my 3rd visit to this hotel I probably wont be visiting for a few years as I have done most of the things you can do on this holiday but I would advise this to family and friends as it is a lovely hotel with pleasant friendly staff.

If you have booked to Summer Palace have a lovely time and hope you enjoy as much as we did :)!

Room Tip: I had read reviews before going that rooms above the Lobby would be noisy, but it was probably just...

We have just come back after having 10 days here & had high expectations after staying at a Mitsis hotel in Rhodes. We were in for a shock however. I have never been in somewhere where the noise level was so high. There were about 4 children to every adult & we chose to go at this time of year to avoid this. The only place to escape this was the adult only pool in the atrium however despite the notices of it being adult only was also allowed to be used by unruly children. I have also never encountered so many rude Russians in all my life. The food was mediocre & was definitely catered for the Russians. The décor was very run down with paint all over the windows & the smells some days were overpowering from the drains. The outside (gardens) was clearly in need of some tlc compared to the other hotels. We went for a much needed rest but came back even more stressed. The only good things I can say was our room for one & the staff who work very hard. we will never come back to this hotel & will not be recommending it to any of our friends. Very disappointed indeed.

Room Tip: Book a sea view room if possible it is well worth the extra

Just got back from a week at the summer palace, with the wife and 2 boys aged 4 and 5. All had a fantastic holiday, the hotel is beautiful and rooms were spotless, gorgeous scenery on offer everywhere you walk round the complex. Staff are very friendly and helpful throughout. It is quite hilly but that's what makes the fantastic scenery. We found the food a bit hit and miss, but we like are traditional English food, the Italian restaurant was lovely, 1 of best pizzas I've tried and a nice setting for the romantic couples. The beach is nice we enjoyed drinking iced cocktails while soaking up the sun there, sea is very nice and clear, but the little pebbles can be harsh on the feet and get very hot, some people were wearing little beech shoes which looked a good idea. Kardamena town defiantly worth a visit, regular buses running from outside reception, its about 1.80 euro each and a ten minute ride, loads of bars and shops, harbour is a lovely setting with restraunts right along it, making it a lovely place to eat. Would definitely visit again.

My boyfriend and I stayed for 11 nights from the start of June, we had a lovely holiday with few complaints! Hotel is in a beautiful setting about an hours walk from Kardamena but it's a lovely walk or bike ride as we did, along the coastline. The hotel in general is nice, but small details let down the expected 5* standard. We had a lovely room and recommend a sea view, the cleaners are fab and come everyday cleaning top to bottom. The pools are salt water which didn't bother us, and we always managed to get sun loungers. The (shingle) beach is lovely too - bars are useful and again we always got loungers. Wifi is poor, so we ended up paying for some a couple of times when the weather wasn't as good and there was little to do. The staff are helpful and welcoming, with a special mention to Mark / Doctor Happiness!
We recommend Harriet Travel if you are planning any days out - the office is in the town centre of Kardamema and is a good price for travel, we went to Kos Town for 9€ return each. If you plan to tear out Yiannis restaurant on he harbour in kardamena is very traditional and high quality for a very reasonable price. The food in the hotel is ok but sometimes repetitive, we struggled at breakfast but lunch and evenings always had a lot of choice. The A La Carte restaurants are worth a visit, especially the Greek Taverna on the beach, beautiful food and service!
Kos island is beautiful, but we would not particularly rate the hotel 5*, even though we had a lovely week the finishing to decoration and furniture let the quality down (as picky as that sounds!!)
Not sure if we will return to the hotel (might try Blue Domes next door!), but a thank you to the lovely staff for helping us have a relaxed all inclusive holiday.

Now we have holidayed in Greece every year for the last 13 years. Absolutely love the people, their culture and the food. It's shame there not much of it here.
Stayed here June 2014. The hotel is located about 3 km's from kardamena strip (10 Euros in a cab)in a complex of 3 other hotels.its was very clean through out and we'll maintained with lovely rooms which had a mini bar and air con. Beds and towels changed every day! Pool areas and beach were good with an elevator taking you from reception to the beach a nice touch also a bar right on the beach. Beautiful view across kardamena and the mountains behind.
It has two themed restaurants, one Italian and one so called Greek. The Italian was perfect, overlooking the beach and friendly funny staff, the Greek on the other had was weird. It's set on the beach in what could only be described as a glass cube, the food was nice but not Greek and if you get an early seating your surrounded by people on sun beds looking in !.
The food in the main restaurant was ok at best, all the usual European food, not a lot of choice and if you don't get there for opening there's not much left as it seems they don't replace dishes.
Now the main problem with this hotel is it's full of Russians and we mean FULL and unfortunately they overtook the place, singing loudly as groups in the bar area with no respect for anyone else and no idea how to queue up. The place has no Greek atmosphere about it at all, if you want to visit Kos/ kardamena your better off going self catering in an apartment and eating out.
A shame.

Room Tip: Rooms 131 and 135 both very near reception (which was a plus) and away from noise, they don't ha...

My boyfriend and I stayed for a week in early June, Lovely views from the room and in general the hotel looks very smart, well decorated, and really is quite spotless.

Staff friendly and good humoured
Wifi very slow - no good if you need to check into the office I'm afraid.
Shop is expensive but the lady who runs it is lovely and it's very useful having it there for things like cotton buds, plasters etc.
Vasilis and Mark were by far the best and brightest in our opinion.
Lovely weather
Beautiful views
Large room size
Very clean
Watersports expensive but the 'Super Mabel' (a sort of inflatable sofa that they pull you about on) was simply the best thing I think I've ever done - €40 for two but worth every cent.

Water is crystal clear and snorkeling worthwhile. A note of caution, my partner went snorkeling along the rocky coastline, about 30 yards to the left from the beach and managed to lacerate his hands quite badly on some very sharp barnacles on the rocks so do be careful - warn your little ones!

We accessed our room (which overlooked the main pool) via a tiled tunnel which meant it was very noisy indeed. No sound proofing at all. The chambermaid parked her trolley outside our door every morning and the vigorous shaking of plastic bags, loud shouting to other employees etc meant that there was no sleep to be had after 8am. It wasn't her fault but it's just not ideal if one likes a lie-in.

Room was large but tired. Maybe we were unlucky but the mattresses of our beds were very worn and every spring was felt! The air conditioning unit dripped water constantly and despite saying they'd get it fixed, it never was. The bathroom was OK but the shower had very low water pressure and very bad drainage in the bath. I think a good dousing with Limelite might cure some of these issues! TV was tiny and old and only English speaking channel was BBC World Service. We wouldn't normally bother with TV on holiday but since the bar closes promptly at midnight and the hotel is not within walking distance to Kardamena. It meant we did end up retiring to the room without being ready for bed on occasion.

There is a nightclub on site but it's not part of the all-inclusive and not really our scene. Not much in the way of evening entertainment. There is a TV in the lobby but it always seemed to be playing foreign talent show programmes and didn't show the major sporting events, such as the World Cup football matches.

Food was OK, I quite liked it and the range quite good. Having read the other reviews perhaps we're more fussy than most because my partner in particular wasn't terribly impressed with the vaguely repetitive nature of the buffet and the fact that often the food was cold because the burners always blow out. Greek restaurant far and away the best, (super waiter there too). The Italian was OK - fairly uninspired menu but the pizzas were good. Toni the grill chef is a lovely chap.

Tip: If you don't like queuing for the grill, get there late - there is still plenty of food to choose from but there isn't such a rush about the place. Also, the waiter service is better when it isn't so busy. Another reviewer mentioned the lack of spoons - I concur! They give you two forks and two knives and if you're lucky, one teaspoon.

Unfortunately I would agree with the occasional reviewer - we thought the wine was watered down. Some of the red wasn't right at all, far too thin. Sometimes, however, it was fine. Bit odd, I suspect it might be something to do with either running out or adding ice. The white and rose were better.

Nowhere near enough sun loungers by the main pool and you do have to be up early to get one. Also, be warned, loud pop music is played by the pool and on the beach so if you're looking for a nice quiet and relaxing holiday this really isn't the place for you. You are packed in like sardines at the beach too so prepare for that.

The efforts and good attitude of the staff made the hotel endearing to us but really I'd only recommend this place for young families.

As with all these things, the holiday is what you make of it and we did make the best of it and had a lovely time but we were ready to go home after a week.

A quick word on Kos, if you can afford the extortionate hire car prices, get one and take a tour around the island, It doesn't take long and Temple of Hippocrates and Kos Town are both worth a visit and quite charming. Warning though - roads are terrible and the signage is non-existent! This made our day out quite fun and adventurous although the map reader does have quite a stressful time!

Kardamena is an easy bus ride away and the shop keepers are very friendly but there's not really much there once you've walked up and down the main street. Beach front restos are OK - try Teo's Tavern for authentic cuisine and a lovely (and very hungry) ginger cat!

My advice would be go, enjoy and have fun but don't go with too high expectations of the hotel, it's 3 star not 5.

The hotel is placed in a truly beautiful spot, mountains on one side and sea on another, The rooms are clean and tidy and beds comfortable to sleep in. Staff is amazingly helpful and willing to reply any of the questions one might have. There are many pools around to choose from, as well as sunbeds on the beach, drinks from the bar, all included in the price. The food in the main restaurant has a wide selection so everybody can find something for themselves, drinks are served by waiters/waitresses that are there to help. The view on the main restaurant terrace is breath-taking, as it is situated on the cliff and down below one can see the never-ending sea. I definitely recommend the hotel to everybody who seek comfort, good service and selection in food.
