Mitsis Summer Palace Beach Hotel
Ranked #16 of 39 Hotels in Kardamena
Reviewed June 24, 2013

We two oldies stayed at the Mitsis Summer Palace for two hot weeks in June. The hotel is spotless, the staff so friendly and the AI regime suited us. We had a large well-fitted room with terrific sea view. Cleaned well daily and AI fridge bar replenished every other day. We really enjoyed the outdoor dining and the great views, the indoor and outdoor pools (always a bed), and the shingle beach. Cannot comment on the entertainment as we bring our own, but the kids seemed to be well cared for. I would not recommend this hotel for the disabled, as it is built into the side of a hill. There are lots of steps, and most ramps are very long and steep, even those to any lift. The sister hotel, the Norida is next door and more on the flat. The site is shared with the Norida, the top of the range Blue Domes and the Mitsis Family Village. Extras : Supermarket, own Greek and Italian restaurants, same-day UK newspapers, sports bar, close to the airport 25eu and local buses to town. Notes: No library shelf, so bring a kindle or your own books. The Summer Palace is a no-nonsense family hotel giving good value for money.

We stayed here in the second week of May this year. The hotel was okay - very clean - but we were disappointed on a number of counts. The food was pretty bland - pretty much the same thing every day and not that brilliant - but perhaps we have been spoiled in the past at other hotels. It was a struggle to get a hot cup of tea or coffee at breakfast - indeed it was a struggle to get a cup or a teaspoon at all. We were there for seven days and had to ask each morning for a teaspoon for the boiled eggs. We overheard waiting staff complain that they didn't have enough crockery. Possibly a knock on effect of the struggling Greek economy. There was no entertainment at all in the evenings and nothing within easy reach, so not many options other than staying on the hotel site. The pool was a lot smaller than we had envisaged and even though we were out of season, it wasn't easy to find four sunbeds together. Highlight was definitely the Greek Taverna on the beach. Fine if you can make your own entertainment, but if you are looking for even a basic level of activity, you will be disappointed.

We were at Summer Palace from 8-18 June 2013.The highlight of our stay was the excellent service from the staff. They were alert for our every needs, special mention for Thomas and Dimitrie, the 2 manager in the restaurant were extremely kind and helpful to us during the stay.
Toni at the grill was a master chef, he cooked meat and fish just before our eyes and always took great care to produce only the best for his guests.
In the restaurant, Apostolis, Giannis, Babis, Laura, an excellent bunch, they were attentive for all our needs.
All in all, a nice vacation in a lovly hotel.

We were at Summer Palace from 8-18 June 2013. The highlight of our stay was the excellent service from the staff. In the restaurant, Apostolis, Giannis and Babis we the pick of an excellent bunch. Nothing was too much trouble for them. They were attentive and catered for our every need. Tony at the grill was a Master chef. He cooked meat and fish before our very eyes, and always took great care to produce only the best for his guests.
At the Italian restaurant, Panagiotis, Theoharris and Vladimir worked tirelessly to produce and serve excellent food in a highly efficient manner.
At reception, we were served by an array of staff who made it very clear that they wanted our stay to be perfect. Angela, Daria, Martha, Elena are worthy of special mention, but there were others, too, who adopted the same very hi standard of customer service.
These staff worked so very hard, that it was remarkable to see.
The majority of the guests appeared to be Russian and Ukrainian. Sad to say, there appeared to be a culture of ingratitude and superiority toward the staff from many of these people. We routinely saw people being rude and patronising toward staff, which made us very uncomfortable. We were told that there has been a recent promotion of the Summer Palace via Russian/Ukrainian travel agencies. We believe that this large population of Russian/Ukrainian guests will put off guests from elsewhere, especially UK citizens. Some cultures simply clash, and these do!
The hotel is spotlessly clean. Our room was cleaned daily, with fresh towels and an amply stocked minibar.
The free drinks were not branded, but were fine. Christos and Pavlos were the pick of a dine team at the bar, ensuring that our every need was met. Snacks available all day were OK. It would have been better to have fresh fruit and more sugar-free drinks available.
Swimming facilities were good, with about seven pools available. It should be noted that none of the pools had shallow ends big enough for the less confident bathers (unless prepared to go in the small part of the biggest pool which was cordoned off for children). Some of the pools were almost 3metres deep, whilst the shallow ends were usually around 1.3 metres at their shallowest.
The beach is largely shale, and drops away sharply into deep water after only a couple of metres. The parasols and loungers were free to use.
All in all, a lovely holiday, in a nice hotel. Not a 5 star hotel by British standards, and the other hotels in the complex appeared to be newer, and better appointed. This was a good value for money holiday for us.

We spent our holiday to our full satisfaction in hotel Summer Palace. Our appartment was ok and cleaned very good every day. Also it was located ver quietly without any distrubances at night!
The restaurant was to our full satisfaction and staff always was following every guest to guarantee that he was served in the best way.
The formula "ALL INCLUSIVE" was really as expected to be: no payments needed anywhere in the resort for all drinks and food.
The only critic we have: after dining far too little space, to sit outside! To our opinion this can be changed very easily: make a connection between the outside restaurant and the barside, so people can stay for a drink after dinner or even better: make a small outside place below at the seaside,to have a drink in the evening!
We surely intend, to come again or at least visit one of the other MITSIS-hotels,if they offer same service

Just returned from the summer palace - exactly what I expected if not better for the price I paid. Everywhere very very clean, rooms were nice, maids worked hard came every day, all staff were extremely friendly and helpful, thomas in the main restaurant, all the restaurant staff work hard, all the bar staff, tasos down at the beach bar, everyone on reception extremely friendly and helpful too especially martha helped us a lot, watersports pete and lucas so lovely and friendly, drinks were good, food was good - people complaining on previous reviews about the food being the same, well yes it was but that is what happens at an all inclusive and it was lovely. Lovely sea view room, yes the beach was pebbly but that wasn't an issue at all - (research where you are going before you go if you are then going to complain about the pebble beach when you get there) was a lovely beach. Only negative is that all the swimming pools were all salt water apart from indoor one but still all lovely swimming pools. A lot of russian people (quite rude) Lovely resort with the other 3 hotels. For what it is it was fantastic had an amazing time and so upset to be home!

Hello all having just returned from 2 weeks at the Mitsis Summer Palace Hotel & it’s very friendly staff I just thought I would share a few comments with you.
1) Location, we had a beautiful sea view room overlooking the sea & the shingle beach.
2) Food excellent variety of salads, vegetables, prepared meals, fruit & “yummy” Greek cakes. The only disappointment was the grill/show cooking which the meat often was fatty or bony. The Staff worked tirelessly to serve & to clean, both the restaurant & the kitchen staff were extremely friendly, if any thing was missing they would get it for us, especially my wife’s fresh lemon at breakfast! Special mention needs to go to Dimitri & Thomas the 2 managers in the Restaurant, who were extremely kind & helpful to us during or stay.
3) The 2 small restaurants, Italian & Greek also had delicious food & very attentive staff.
4) Reception staff very also extremely helpful, I would ask my tour operator’s rep questions & not really get an adequate answer, but go to reception & they would do all they can to help. There were a couple of maintenance issues, which they resolved very quickly & efficiently.
5) The cleaners & maintenance staff also worked very hard.
6) If you go to Kos town, you can also use the facilities of the sister hotel there, the Ramira Beach hotel, we had 2 lunches & were treated well there also.
7) We don’t really drink allot, but enjoyed the variety of fruit juices & soft drinks on offer.
8) We enjoyed the entertainment in the next door Norida Beach Hotel in the evenings, as what was provided in the Summer Palace appeared to be aimed at small children.

WARNINGS
A) If you don’t like smoke when eating, be aware that Greek law allows smoking in open environments, so on the balcony in the main restaurant & in both the Greek & Italian Restaurants it is allowed.
B) If you have young teenage children, watch the bar men, I saw them serving vodka cocktails to 14/15 year olds.
C) The Russian guests are very greedy, I would get 2-3 pieces of water melon, and they would get 12-14!
D) Not suitable for people with walking difficulties, as it is built on the side of a hill so has LOTS of steps!
I hope this helps. ENJOY, We will certainly be returning.
