First off I would like to say that I've never stayed at a five star resort before so have nothing to compare this resort with but if there are better places to stay then I want to go to them because this place was fantastic.

We stayed here as a family of four, my wife, my two daughters aged 11 & 9 and myself in may 2013, first impressions were of a fantastic looking hotel set in wonderful landscaped grounds.
Check in was very easy, we were then driven to our room by a golf buggy along with our luggage which was taken to the room by our driver. The room which had a garden view was very spacious for the four of us, the bathroom was massive and had a freestanding shower and bath with a shower over which was ideal with a family.

The mini bar was restocked every single day although the times varied every day depending on which block they started in first. The rooms were kept very clean and the maids even positioned my daughters toys in various positions every day which amused her no end, a lovely touch.

The pools are vast and it's nice to be able to move from one pool to another on different days, the only grumbles I have we're the conditions of the floors in the pools, they have a lot of tiles missing which was a bit of a hazard and they are sea water which caused my children's skin to be come very sore and cracked( little tip make sure you wash the water off when you get out of the pool under the showers dotted around to prevent drying out ).

The food was lovely and a great choice every day, the main restaurant was great and has a wonderful view from the veranda where we ate all the time, the staff where friendly despite being worked like slaves and running around like fools. The little bars around the main pool and bar were ideal for dinner time and were nice to try something different which my children loved.

I must admit that if you're not fit or able to climb stairs or hills this is not the place for you, the entertainment is very amateur and not at all what I would have expected of a five star resort despite this it kept the children amused and a special mention to the keyboard player in the evenings at the main bar who wasn't the best singer but his piano skills were fine and he gave us loads of laughs and was always very chatty.

We would defiantly stay here again and I would recommend this to all my friends and family, Greece is a very laid back country and they have one speed so they don't get things done very quick but that just makes this a very relaxing place for a holiday to sit around, eating, drinking and soaking up the sun.

Room Tip: Garden view rooms are lovely as you can sit out in the evening and enjoy a drink.

We arrived to the Mitsis world in the middle of July, and let me tell you, I have travelled to many places in my life, even having lived in the Caribbean, and this was AN AMAZING holiday!!!! I cant emphasise how great this holiday was! The pools were absolutely gorgeous, so many, I couldnt even count how many there were! The food was great - there was a choice from so many mini restaurants throughout the day - the pita and the ice cream - delicious! The evening cuisine in the main restaurant was great - there were lots of different choices. We didnt manage to book into any of the other al a carte restaurants as we were very happy with the main restaurant - the view in the evening overlooking the pool was fantastic! The main bar by the top pool was a gorgeous setting for a drink in the evening, and there lots of different special cocktails to try - just ask Theo for his recommendation!! He is very good at his job! :) Such lovely members of staff throughout the hotel. The cleaning ladies work extremely hard, they did a fantastic job in the rooms every day, always smiling as well!

I have to leave the best till last. Going on a family holiday as a 22 year old female, alongside my 18 year old sister and parents, I was a bit apprehensive about the social side of things, thinking we would have to go out into Kardamena for some kind of entertainment but let me tell you, the animation team was superb!! The shows in the evening were great fun! Very talented choreographer, working with all those boys trying to teach them how to dance must have been hard work!!! Ema, Claudio, Mirko and Ausra were superstars! They included us in all the activities which were going on, be it Olympics, volleyball or water aerobics. (The boys werent so good at tennis, but their make up for it in their cheeky fun!) The dancing and singing after the shows were always fun - the song is stuck in my head! Such a great team - Radoul you should be very proud :)

We had such a good time we are even looking at going back in October - we had such holiday blues when we came home!

Blue Domes we miss you!

Love from Emma, Madelaine, Carole and Gary xxx

Just arrived back from Mitsis Blue Domes. My partner and I stayed at the hotel for 7 days and thoroughly enjoyed it however there were a few things which could have been improved.
Hotel is stunning and very large, so prepare to do a lot of walking. We stayed in room 136 which is near the lobby and has its own swim up pool, after speaking to the other guests it became clear that we were very lucky to have one of these rooms as a lot of people were complaining about the lack of beds around the main pool and one couple actually told us they had to wake up at 6am to ensure they were able to get beds around the pool. I would definitely recommend paying the extra for a pool room
The restaurants were nice however not as good as some of the other hotels I have stayed in. We ate in the Greek, Asian and Italian A La Carte’s and also tried the Burger, sushi and pitta corner for lunch. There is a booking system for the A La Carte restaurants which is rubbish, you can book two days in advance from 7pm. However the restaurants always seemed to be fully booked. After trying this for two days, we decided to complain and we managed to get booked into all 4 restaurants.
Rooms are spacious, comfortable beds, cleaned daily, mini bar restocked and towels changed so cannot fault what so ever.
Beach is stoney, so we avoided but it was always busy so just depends on your preference
I recommend taking the hotel bus into Kardamena and trying a restaurant called Avli, it is a pretty little greek restaurant with lovely food and great staff. Try to arrive before 8:30 as it does get pretty busy but definitely worth a visit. We actually dined here 3 times out of 7 day stay
Also the Wifi in the rooms is no longer free, you can only use the free wifi in the main bar
The rooms do not have an iron/ironing board, if you need anything ironed you will need to pay for the hotels ironing service
Please be aware that majority of the guests staying at Blue Domes are Russian. This is not a problem for some people however for my partner and I it was quite uncomfortable to be stared at in every restaurant

We arrived at the hotel 3 hours later than scheduled due to a flight delay to be met with no refreshments and only one person on reception. Could not fault him at all, he did his best and kept smiling through the queue, however it took more than an hour (at midnight!). We then had to wait to have our cases taken to our room.... by the time we got there it was past 2am..... I did complain to the rep and she organised an apology in form of a basket of fruit and a bottle of wine. We booked the holiday a year in advance, paid for a bungalow, requested sea view or pool view and got neither. We also had my husband's 50th birthday at the resort which was mentioned at time of booking and this was not addressed either. Our bungalow was way down near the beach with a garden view, no British people near us and we felt like we were out of the way of everything...... apart from the ants ! We were ambushed by them every day, even one morning woke up with our bed full of them. It took more than 3 hours for someone to come in and spray them after reporting it..... then they still came back :(. The room itself was lovely, the TV had only one English language channel (World News), we didn't watch it anyway... room was cleaned every day however over several days we had no towels or not enough of them. The mini bar was stocked each day at 4.30pm so the drinks were still nice and warm in the fridge for when we got back in at the end of the day.

The hotel itself is in a lovely position with stunning views, nicely spread out so you are not treading on each other's toes. The restaurants near the pool bar are the best, the service was excellent, we used them every day but you had to pick your times! The main restaurant is the part that lets it down most. If you get there early you get a good service, you don't have to queue for a table and you get your drinks pretty quickly. Time it wrong (which we did several times), you end up queuing and waiting...... not what I would expect from a 5 star hotel. The food in there was not that great, very repetitive at times in the evening, especially the sweets. I personally think they have not got enough staff in there to cater for the amount of people staying at the hotel.
We used the restaurants near the beach, the Asian we found was the best. As we booked with Thomas Cook we had priority for booking tables, we did not have to queue at the desk at the entrance to the main restaurant, we just went to the customer liaison desk in reception.

Not a lot for kids to do at night..... we have 2 children aged 14 & 9, they spent at least 10 euro per night in the games room. I felt like it was a great holiday during the day, but then turned into a Saga holiday at night. It was the same guy on a keyboard every evening trying to sing in English, and when he wasn't singing it sounded like music you would hear in a lift! The entertainers did really well, but you had the same things repeated every day. It needs a bit more "ooomph" at night to cater for all ages. There also seems to be a bit of a fashion parade at night too, each country (not British might I add) seemed to want to out do each other with the amount of bling and designer outfits, shortest skirts and highest shoes..... we found this quite amusing and it added to the entertainment.

The pools are salt water, but we were ok with that as they were not crowded at all. It was nice to wonder around and pick which pool you wanted to go in. As many other people have complained before me, sunbeds are a rarity, be prepared to either wait till late afternoon or not have one at all. In fact in the 2 weeks we were there we managed to get sunbeds twice. We therefore spent many days down at the beach, our 14 year old joined in with all the entertainment, our 9 year old made friends, all whilst we relaxed on a sunbed each :)

Overall we enjoyed our holiday at the Mitsis Blue Domes however would not return but would recommend highly. I think maybe they are just pushing it a little to say it's a 5 star.... absolutely 5 star views, but I think 4 star everything else, and sometimes a bit less when it comes to service, particularly in the main restaurant.

This is an amazing place to go on holiday to. The resort is stunningly beautiful with amazing views and more swimming pools than can be imagine. There are lovely gardens, lawns, bars and restaurants. The staff are all friendly, smiling and helpful. I don't think that I have ever been anywhere so clean, tidy and well maintained. The food was plentiful, varied and very tasty. The rooms are comfortable, clean, spacious and well equipped with patio doors that looked out to the sea. There are plenty of sun beds and parasols but be warned; there are many guests up before 6am to get the best ones !
The spa is very good. I had a facial, back massage and a manicure and each treatment was excellent and good value for money. Not cheap but not overly expensive either.
Downside; the restaurant is at the top of a very steep hill with many steps. The summer temperatures make this climb once or twice a day a bit of an ordeal. However, at the top, the views are worth it! Tea and coffee facilities are not available in the rooms and this would have been nice. Very difficult if not impossible to book the special restaurants as these appear to be block booked by the our operators. There is no free wifi and can be purchased through hotel but quite pricy.

Room Tip: If you have any mobility issues, ask for a room near the reception. The walk downhill is ok and ther...

When we arrived we were taken to our room, check in was quick and the resort looked lovely. Our room was spacious and looked beautiful but unfortunately we were given the wrong room. We had paid extra for a sharing pool room and we were in a standard room. We spoke to our rep at the welcome meeting the next day and she spoke to reception who then had this problem sorted quickly. All our things were moved quickly and we were given the new room which was on the ground floor right outside a sharing pool room. We were lucky too as where we was we was able to access free wifi in our room. The only problem we found was there was not enough sun beds for the sharing pool room. All sunbeds were reserved by 6AM every morning and if you did not reserve them you ended up on your balcony which was lovely but you had shade no sun!

The food at this hotel is excellent. You have so many choices the main restaurant has plenty of different choices. If you are with Thomas cook you can go to customer relations and book the 4 a la carte restaurants but book early as we didn't book until late in our holiday so only manage to visit the Italian. However, we don't feel we miss out on much as the main restaurant was so good. The puddings in the main restaurant we didn't think were that nice so we tended to go to the pastry corner for pudding which was lovely. The waiter Jimmy deserves a special mention as he was always working so hard and always made you feel welcome and chatted to you.

The main bar was the best bar for drinks and if you sat at the bar the barman Theo, would top up your drinks without you having to ask for another drink. The other bars were fine the only one I thought had a funny taste to the drinks was the theater bar not sure why. The Shirley temple non alcoholic cocktail was very nice and refreshing. The measures are very large so if you don't like it to strong just ask for only a little bit of alcohol.

The mini bar was topped up everyday with drink which was very good due to the pool bar being in the middle and the resort being so large it was quite a walk to get there to get a little plastic cup. Tip - Take a plastic pint glass and ask them to refill that for you some might not but we saw some bar staff doing this.

The beach was good and beach bar served drink and toasties and baguettes. The beach is shingle and the beds go early in the morning with people reserving these too.

All pools are salt pool and this is the only reason we would not return. We love being in the pool on holiday but you could only be in them for 10 minutes or so at a time before your eye and lips stung. It takes a while to get used to it my skin stung after I got out of the pool the first few times. We bought Lilo's over at the shop which were only 26 euro 50 which we didn't think was bad but when your lay on them in the water because the wind is quite strong you end up at the other end of the pool and you have to try really hard to get back to the other end.

The water sports at the beach are quite expensive 50Euro for 15 minutes on a speedboat. We took a trip to paradise beach which was free as thomas cook had a deal on it was a lovely sandy beach we didn't see any bubbles though which apprently there is. They had lots of water sports there. The 3 Island cruise is definitely worth the money, It is a nice boat trip and you can visit the different island, look out for dolphins and can swim in the clear blue ocean. The boat is a bit squashy so don't expect too much but staff on it are nice and friendly.

All staff at hotel are very friendly and helpful the maids do a good job at cleaning your room. Do make sure you put all valuables in your safe as it is free and better safe than sorry. You have to pay 20euro each deposit for a towel which we did but properly best just to take your own. Late check out is quite costly at 10euro an hour but wish we just paid it, makes you feel a bit lost not having a room. You can have a courtesy room for half hour free of charge which is OK but you have to leave your luggage outside the reception where anyone can help themselves to it from 12pm until your pick up time. Didn't think it was very safe!

I would not bother paying extra for sharing pool room next time as you still had to reserve your sun bed at ridiculous times in the morning. You have to if you want a sun bed! All room are close to a pool so save your money!

Evenings can be a bit boring so we bought a chess board and pack of cards lots of other people there did too. We went to the go karts just outside the resort, which were good fun expensive though.

Overall an excellent hotel just need more sun beds and change to pools to salt water pools and this would be the best hotel!

If you have any questions I would be happy to answer them please message me.

This being our 3rd visit to Blue Domes (previously in 2010 and 2011, you can read the earlier reviews on here if you wish) I was hoping to be writing a review which showed the Hotel was a good or if not better than the previous 2 visits.
While many things were consistent with earlier visits there were enough problems that mean that sadly we wont be going back.

Essentially we are looking at problems in 3 key areas all of which are intertwined with the other.
- Overbooking
- Poor Quality Food and Beverage
- Large Numbers of Children.

The Management at Blue Domes (BD) seems to have initiated a policy of taking more bookings than they have rooms for. The Hotel sits on a complex with 3 other Mitsis Hotels and I think what is happening is the other Hotels are not being fully booked (If you see them you can understand why this is) and in order to increase occupancy across the whole 4 hotels they are selling rooms at BD knowing that they can out-book people to the others and still allow people to use the facilities (restaurants, pools, bars, etc) at BD.

Having read about the out-booking prior to our departure we made special effort to contact the management at BD to ensure the room type we had booked would be available. Fortunately it was so we were not directly affected by the overbooking policy. According to the Hotel Reception they have availability for 1800 people at the hotel, but judging from the number of people with ‘double bands’ (white for BD, Black for being out-booked) we think that the hotel was accommodating around 30% extra people. This created a very crowded feel to the hotel leading to all the problems that other reviewers have highlighted such as queues at the main restaurant, evening bars, and for the al-a-carte booking. I suspect it may have also lead to the complaints about lack of sunbeds as the BD beds were far superior to the other hotels. The lack of sunbed was also exacerbated on 5 days when Mr Mitsis himself arranged for around 100 beds (60 around the pool and 40 on the beach) to be Reserved. The ones around the pool were guarded all day and never had a single person sit on them the whole time!
The Staff did seem to be putting a good effort to cope with the over-crowding though and I feel comments about unfriendly staff are unjustified. Special thanks to Lenka at the main pool bar and Vasilos at the Sushi.

I think most people would agree that the primary reason for booking a ALL INCLUSIVE Hotel is the fact that you don’t have to pay for food and drinks during your stay. So It is very important that Food and Drink is of the highest quality and varied, this was previously the case at BD. Unfortunately the quality and variety of Food and Drink on offer this year bear little resemblance to previous years and could no longer be considered Exclusive. I tried to address this problem with the F&B Manager but you could tell it was not his decision to cut the corners but it was something that was being promoted by the Mitsis Management either as response to increased austerity taxes or as a way of increasing profits.

Starting with the main restaurant; At breakfast the selection of foods has been reduced with no day-to-day variety which was there before. Apples and other fresh fruit are now pre-cut preventing you from taking them out of the restaurant. It was the lunch and evening menu though where the cracks really showed, where before you would have a varied selection of meat (Lamb, Beef, Veal) now the choice was limited to Pork, Liver and Chicken. I asked the Chef if this was same selection EVERY night and he proudly answered “Yes”…he wasn’t wrong either. They did occasionally have other types of meat but these were in sauces and were mostly fat and gristle. Previously Rose wine has been served, but this must have been recently removed as it was still on the bar menu but not available. Finally they seemed to be skimping on cutlery as at breakfast there were never any tea-spoons and you has to use the fork handle and lunch as dinner only provided on set of knife and forks so you had to chase a waiter down for more after completing your starter.

On to the theme restaurants:-
German BEERaria, This restaurant used to serve various German beers in keeping with the theme, now all they offer is the standard lager shandy served at the other bars. The idea of appetizers and mains was also lost here as frequently you would receive both together. The quality and quantities served was also variable.
Greek Ouzerie, Never ate here as the menu didn’t appeal, but was basically Greek Tapas.
Patisserie; Possibly the best place to get CHILLED white wine and the crepes were as good as before. They seemed to now use a cheaper for of ice cream which frequently ran out of the popular flavours. The hotels solution to reduce the consumption of ice cream was to only have tubs available in the afternoons other than that it was cornets (which are not great in 40 degree heat!)
Sushi; As excellent as previous years although the over abundance of children with water pistols in the pool in front of you meant it was hard to relax and enjoy it.
Pitta; Never ate here before but enjoyed it this year although the main filling was pork (again)
Burger; There were always queues to get into this and the size of the burger (meat) varied from the size of a £2 coin to the diameter of a tin of beans. You never knew quite what you would get! My wife ordered a Chicken Ceaser salad from here which literally had only 2 scraggy bits of chicken.
Italian; This was the most difficult to book (see later) and had the most extensive menu which also included pork.
Greek; This was in our opinion the best of the 4 main theme ones, excellent service and nice food although the swordfish was very small (I suggest you check out the Avli restaurant in Kardemena for swordfish)
Mexican; Gone drastically down hill from previous visits. Minute PORK Burritos and limited choice.
Asian; Average Chinese style restaurant with yet more pork, but made a change.

A lot of comment has been made about the abysmal booking system for the 4 main theme restaurants. Previously the booking system was excellent, you would book in the morning around 10.30 with little queuing. At the Laguna Beach in Crete you simply booked at reception in the morning. At BD you start queuing at 9pm and for the computer coming ‘on-line’ at 10pm. This is not great if like us you like to eat around this time. What is annoying is that typically the restaurants are always about 50% empty after 8.30pm but the computer says they are full! We learnt however that if you dropped by at 9pm you could normally get a table without going through the booking queue fiasco.
The Overbooking was very evident in the evenings, there was no where to sit and there were queues at the main night bar. There is a Lobby bar which BD management decide to close at 11pm just as it is getting busy. This is clearly to make it as difficult as possible to get served and therefore reduce their bar spend. Previously the Bar has served branded drinks (Baileys, Sauza Tequila, Jagermeister, etc) which were actually drinkable unlike the local brewed spirits. These have now been dropped so it was quite normal to see people drinking their own bottles of spirits in the evening.

In the end though the most noticeable change for us was the way the hotel seems to have changed into a Thompson Super Family style Butlins Hotel. While this used to feel like a quiet exclusive ‘grown-up’ hotel the Demographic has now changed from mostly adults/couples/teens to predominantly very young children from all nations covered in chocolate ice cream. At times the almost constant screaming gets very annoying and often be heard over the top of your full volume MP3 Player. No matter where you go they are a constant factor here now whether it’s the beach or a meal in a restaurant at 9.30pm what used to be a nice relaxing hotel has now changed beyond recognition. Maybe the Hotel needs to introduce some adult only areas like they have at the Laguna Beach in Crete (even Norida next door has an adults only bar!).
One day we were even subjected to a 2 hour long ‘It’s a Knockout’ style kids competition which ran throughout the morning!
The best time to relax at this hotel is now between 6.30 and 8.30am which is handy as that means you can grab a sunbed before they all go!

In my 2011 review I commented that this hotel (which was ranked #8 in Kardemena) should be ranked #1 in Greece, now sadly I struggle to see how this Hotel can even be ranked #5 in Kardemena as standards have fallen that much. I fail too see how they can still brand this as a 5*+ Exclusive Hotel when the food is no better than the 3 star Family Village Hotel and the atmosphere is anything but exclusive.

Room Tip: The Best thing about the hotel are the Rooms (assuming you don’t get out-booked) There are a large n...
