This is an amazing place to go on holiday to. The resort is stunningly beautiful with amazing views and more swimming pools than can be imagine. There are lovely gardens, lawns, bars and restaurants. The staff are all friendly, smiling and helpful. I don't think that I have ever been anywhere so clean, tidy and well maintained. The food was plentiful, varied and very tasty. The rooms are comfortable, clean, spacious and well equipped with patio doors that looked out to the sea. There are plenty of sun beds and parasols but be warned; there are many guests up before 6am to get the best ones !
The spa is very good. I had a facial, back massage and a manicure and each treatment was excellent and good value for money. Not cheap but not overly expensive either.
Downside; the restaurant is at the top of a very steep hill with many steps. The summer temperatures make this climb once or twice a day a bit of an ordeal. However, at the top, the views are worth it! Tea and coffee facilities are not available in the rooms and this would have been nice. Very difficult if not impossible to book the special restaurants as these appear to be block booked by the our operators. There is no free wifi and can be purchased through hotel but quite pricy.

Room Tip: If you have any mobility issues, ask for a room near the reception. The walk downhill is ok and ther...

When we arrived we were taken to our room, check in was quick and the resort looked lovely. Our room was spacious and looked beautiful but unfortunately we were given the wrong room. We had paid extra for a sharing pool room and we were in a standard room. We spoke to our rep at the welcome meeting the next day and she spoke to reception who then had this problem sorted quickly. All our things were moved quickly and we were given the new room which was on the ground floor right outside a sharing pool room. We were lucky too as where we was we was able to access free wifi in our room. The only problem we found was there was not enough sun beds for the sharing pool room. All sunbeds were reserved by 6AM every morning and if you did not reserve them you ended up on your balcony which was lovely but you had shade no sun!

The food at this hotel is excellent. You have so many choices the main restaurant has plenty of different choices. If you are with Thomas cook you can go to customer relations and book the 4 a la carte restaurants but book early as we didn't book until late in our holiday so only manage to visit the Italian. However, we don't feel we miss out on much as the main restaurant was so good. The puddings in the main restaurant we didn't think were that nice so we tended to go to the pastry corner for pudding which was lovely. The waiter Jimmy deserves a special mention as he was always working so hard and always made you feel welcome and chatted to you.

The main bar was the best bar for drinks and if you sat at the bar the barman Theo, would top up your drinks without you having to ask for another drink. The other bars were fine the only one I thought had a funny taste to the drinks was the theater bar not sure why. The Shirley temple non alcoholic cocktail was very nice and refreshing. The measures are very large so if you don't like it to strong just ask for only a little bit of alcohol.

The mini bar was topped up everyday with drink which was very good due to the pool bar being in the middle and the resort being so large it was quite a walk to get there to get a little plastic cup. Tip - Take a plastic pint glass and ask them to refill that for you some might not but we saw some bar staff doing this.

The beach was good and beach bar served drink and toasties and baguettes. The beach is shingle and the beds go early in the morning with people reserving these too.

All pools are salt pool and this is the only reason we would not return. We love being in the pool on holiday but you could only be in them for 10 minutes or so at a time before your eye and lips stung. It takes a while to get used to it my skin stung after I got out of the pool the first few times. We bought Lilo's over at the shop which were only 26 euro 50 which we didn't think was bad but when your lay on them in the water because the wind is quite strong you end up at the other end of the pool and you have to try really hard to get back to the other end.

The water sports at the beach are quite expensive 50Euro for 15 minutes on a speedboat. We took a trip to paradise beach which was free as thomas cook had a deal on it was a lovely sandy beach we didn't see any bubbles though which apprently there is. They had lots of water sports there. The 3 Island cruise is definitely worth the money, It is a nice boat trip and you can visit the different island, look out for dolphins and can swim in the clear blue ocean. The boat is a bit squashy so don't expect too much but staff on it are nice and friendly.

All staff at hotel are very friendly and helpful the maids do a good job at cleaning your room. Do make sure you put all valuables in your safe as it is free and better safe than sorry. You have to pay 20euro each deposit for a towel which we did but properly best just to take your own. Late check out is quite costly at 10euro an hour but wish we just paid it, makes you feel a bit lost not having a room. You can have a courtesy room for half hour free of charge which is OK but you have to leave your luggage outside the reception where anyone can help themselves to it from 12pm until your pick up time. Didn't think it was very safe!

I would not bother paying extra for sharing pool room next time as you still had to reserve your sun bed at ridiculous times in the morning. You have to if you want a sun bed! All room are close to a pool so save your money!

Evenings can be a bit boring so we bought a chess board and pack of cards lots of other people there did too. We went to the go karts just outside the resort, which were good fun expensive though.

Overall an excellent hotel just need more sun beds and change to pools to salt water pools and this would be the best hotel!

If you have any questions I would be happy to answer them please message me.

This being our 3rd visit to Blue Domes (previously in 2010 and 2011, you can read the earlier reviews on here if you wish) I was hoping to be writing a review which showed the Hotel was a good or if not better than the previous 2 visits.
While many things were consistent with earlier visits there were enough problems that mean that sadly we wont be going back.

Essentially we are looking at problems in 3 key areas all of which are intertwined with the other.
- Overbooking
- Poor Quality Food and Beverage
- Large Numbers of Children.

The Management at Blue Domes (BD) seems to have initiated a policy of taking more bookings than they have rooms for. The Hotel sits on a complex with 3 other Mitsis Hotels and I think what is happening is the other Hotels are not being fully booked (If you see them you can understand why this is) and in order to increase occupancy across the whole 4 hotels they are selling rooms at BD knowing that they can out-book people to the others and still allow people to use the facilities (restaurants, pools, bars, etc) at BD.

Having read about the out-booking prior to our departure we made special effort to contact the management at BD to ensure the room type we had booked would be available. Fortunately it was so we were not directly affected by the overbooking policy. According to the Hotel Reception they have availability for 1800 people at the hotel, but judging from the number of people with ‘double bands’ (white for BD, Black for being out-booked) we think that the hotel was accommodating around 30% extra people. This created a very crowded feel to the hotel leading to all the problems that other reviewers have highlighted such as queues at the main restaurant, evening bars, and for the al-a-carte booking. I suspect it may have also lead to the complaints about lack of sunbeds as the BD beds were far superior to the other hotels. The lack of sunbed was also exacerbated on 5 days when Mr Mitsis himself arranged for around 100 beds (60 around the pool and 40 on the beach) to be Reserved. The ones around the pool were guarded all day and never had a single person sit on them the whole time!
The Staff did seem to be putting a good effort to cope with the over-crowding though and I feel comments about unfriendly staff are unjustified. Special thanks to Lenka at the main pool bar and Vasilos at the Sushi.

I think most people would agree that the primary reason for booking a ALL INCLUSIVE Hotel is the fact that you don’t have to pay for food and drinks during your stay. So It is very important that Food and Drink is of the highest quality and varied, this was previously the case at BD. Unfortunately the quality and variety of Food and Drink on offer this year bear little resemblance to previous years and could no longer be considered Exclusive. I tried to address this problem with the F&B Manager but you could tell it was not his decision to cut the corners but it was something that was being promoted by the Mitsis Management either as response to increased austerity taxes or as a way of increasing profits.

Starting with the main restaurant; At breakfast the selection of foods has been reduced with no day-to-day variety which was there before. Apples and other fresh fruit are now pre-cut preventing you from taking them out of the restaurant. It was the lunch and evening menu though where the cracks really showed, where before you would have a varied selection of meat (Lamb, Beef, Veal) now the choice was limited to Pork, Liver and Chicken. I asked the Chef if this was same selection EVERY night and he proudly answered “Yes”…he wasn’t wrong either. They did occasionally have other types of meat but these were in sauces and were mostly fat and gristle. Previously Rose wine has been served, but this must have been recently removed as it was still on the bar menu but not available. Finally they seemed to be skimping on cutlery as at breakfast there were never any tea-spoons and you has to use the fork handle and lunch as dinner only provided on set of knife and forks so you had to chase a waiter down for more after completing your starter.

On to the theme restaurants:-
German BEERaria, This restaurant used to serve various German beers in keeping with the theme, now all they offer is the standard lager shandy served at the other bars. The idea of appetizers and mains was also lost here as frequently you would receive both together. The quality and quantities served was also variable.
Greek Ouzerie, Never ate here as the menu didn’t appeal, but was basically Greek Tapas.
Patisserie; Possibly the best place to get CHILLED white wine and the crepes were as good as before. They seemed to now use a cheaper for of ice cream which frequently ran out of the popular flavours. The hotels solution to reduce the consumption of ice cream was to only have tubs available in the afternoons other than that it was cornets (which are not great in 40 degree heat!)
Sushi; As excellent as previous years although the over abundance of children with water pistols in the pool in front of you meant it was hard to relax and enjoy it.
Pitta; Never ate here before but enjoyed it this year although the main filling was pork (again)
Burger; There were always queues to get into this and the size of the burger (meat) varied from the size of a £2 coin to the diameter of a tin of beans. You never knew quite what you would get! My wife ordered a Chicken Ceaser salad from here which literally had only 2 scraggy bits of chicken.
Italian; This was the most difficult to book (see later) and had the most extensive menu which also included pork.
Greek; This was in our opinion the best of the 4 main theme ones, excellent service and nice food although the swordfish was very small (I suggest you check out the Avli restaurant in Kardemena for swordfish)
Mexican; Gone drastically down hill from previous visits. Minute PORK Burritos and limited choice.
Asian; Average Chinese style restaurant with yet more pork, but made a change.

A lot of comment has been made about the abysmal booking system for the 4 main theme restaurants. Previously the booking system was excellent, you would book in the morning around 10.30 with little queuing. At the Laguna Beach in Crete you simply booked at reception in the morning. At BD you start queuing at 9pm and for the computer coming ‘on-line’ at 10pm. This is not great if like us you like to eat around this time. What is annoying is that typically the restaurants are always about 50% empty after 8.30pm but the computer says they are full! We learnt however that if you dropped by at 9pm you could normally get a table without going through the booking queue fiasco.
The Overbooking was very evident in the evenings, there was no where to sit and there were queues at the main night bar. There is a Lobby bar which BD management decide to close at 11pm just as it is getting busy. This is clearly to make it as difficult as possible to get served and therefore reduce their bar spend. Previously the Bar has served branded drinks (Baileys, Sauza Tequila, Jagermeister, etc) which were actually drinkable unlike the local brewed spirits. These have now been dropped so it was quite normal to see people drinking their own bottles of spirits in the evening.

In the end though the most noticeable change for us was the way the hotel seems to have changed into a Thompson Super Family style Butlins Hotel. While this used to feel like a quiet exclusive ‘grown-up’ hotel the Demographic has now changed from mostly adults/couples/teens to predominantly very young children from all nations covered in chocolate ice cream. At times the almost constant screaming gets very annoying and often be heard over the top of your full volume MP3 Player. No matter where you go they are a constant factor here now whether it’s the beach or a meal in a restaurant at 9.30pm what used to be a nice relaxing hotel has now changed beyond recognition. Maybe the Hotel needs to introduce some adult only areas like they have at the Laguna Beach in Crete (even Norida next door has an adults only bar!).
One day we were even subjected to a 2 hour long ‘It’s a Knockout’ style kids competition which ran throughout the morning!
The best time to relax at this hotel is now between 6.30 and 8.30am which is handy as that means you can grab a sunbed before they all go!

In my 2011 review I commented that this hotel (which was ranked #8 in Kardemena) should be ranked #1 in Greece, now sadly I struggle to see how this Hotel can even be ranked #5 in Kardemena as standards have fallen that much. I fail too see how they can still brand this as a 5*+ Exclusive Hotel when the food is no better than the 3 star Family Village Hotel and the atmosphere is anything but exclusive.

Room Tip: The Best thing about the hotel are the Rooms (assuming you don’t get out-booked) There are a large n...

We are just about to leave Mitsis Blue Domes after a lovely two weeks here. It is a lovely hotel, incredibly clean and has very hard working staff. All the negative comments are slightly exaggerated. You do have to join a small queue for the restaurant but within two minutes you are seated. The salt pools are the only negative we have, there are lots of beautiful pools but they are all salt water which we don't like and there is a lack of sun beds but lots of them on the beach. The food is amazing and there is so much choice. The chef is always in the restaurant and the manager can often be seen around the hotel. The air conditioned rooms are superb and the mini bar is refilled everyday. We had room 100 which is close to Reception and we loved it as we had a pool right outside our room. The rooms are spacious and beautifully decorated. I used the spa and had a lovely full body massage for €65 although it is a bit expensive as I would only pay £30 for the same at home. The ice cream is absolutely delicious and available all day. The drinks can be strong but if you ask for less they will oblige. The only downside for us as a family with teenage children who know how to behave was the unsupervised young children from all nationalities whose parents allow them to run around even later in the evening but hotel staff tried in vain to control them. Overall this is a wonderful hotel with great staff and you won't be disappointed. It is on a hill and there are quite a few steps but after eating all the delicious food, the exercise stops you feeling guilty if you eat too much. I hope you enjoy Blue Domes as much as we have. X

Just returned from 2 week main family holiday (with 4 and 6 year old girls). Overall we had a very good time and whilst there are a few issues with the hotel, the last review from Stephen G bears no reality to the experience we had.

It is true that this is not a 5 star hotel, and if you are used to real 5 star hotels then you need to come prepared to lower expectations a bit.

The main problem we had was with the main restaurant. The food itself was fine if pretty unadventurous. But it is buffet service and the sheer number of guests, many of whom seem to have checked out their manners for the holiday, makes for a very unrelaxing experience. Seeing grown adults pushing their way to the food is not very polite and makes it difficult trying to explain to our children why they should line up and wait their turn.

The poolside restaurants were a real hit with us. And unlike Stephen's review, there was no problem mixing food from the different restaurants. The Pita and Greek restaurants were especially popular with us.

The beachside a la carte restaurants were fine if you can get a booking. we managed to eat at the Mexican (very good) and the Asian (very average and tasteless). but I agree that the booking system is totally mad.

I also find the idea of having to reserve sun beds pretty unacceptable in a top hotel and I was frankly embarrassed at having to join in the early morning rush.

But there were plenty of great points. The pools are great and the fact that they were salt water was no real problem. Just remember to take some goggles! My young girls had no problem with it at all. And there is always the very well designed children's pool which is fresh water.

The staff themselves are ever so helpful and do the best they can with the many, often rude, other customers. They were lovely with our children.

One of the main highlights for our girls was the nightly mini disco. The entertainers were fab and in particular thanks to Hanna for playing with our younger daughter!

Finally it's worth having a quick wander round the other Mitsis hotels that are next door to the Blue Domes. Once you have seen them you will realise how good the Blue Domes is! also do try to have a look around the island. Hiring a car for a couple is days is well worth it.

Just returned from our 2 week family holiday and extremely disappointed. You will receive better value for money, service and food quality in a 3 star Spanish hotel. Definitely not a 5 star experience. Let me share a typical day with you.

Day in the life of Blue Domes
- 6am up still can't get a sun bed as others reserved them at night before going to bed,
- 8am queue for breakfast 20 deep, only 1 restaurant open and tables reserved for 'the boss'
- breakfast fry everything, if its not already out you can't have it. I have never stayed in a 5 star hotel who refuse to even poach an egg for you,
- 9am queue for 90 mins if you would like fresh beach towels, there are of course no beds available even if you could get a towel,
- 1pm, group of 9 debate where we should go for lunch. Whilst the 6 pool restaurants are connected to each other, you cannot sit in one and order from another, or have a take away, so burgers for all, or sushi for all,
- cool off by the many salt water pools, they are so cold the kids turn blue and can't play in them, or they are sick from the high salt levels,
- Ala Carte restaurants all have set menu, 3 starters and 3 mains. Its the same menu for lunch and dinner so you will exhaust the menu after 2 days. Again very inflexible, if its not on the menu you can't have it, pasta with sauce but they won't add chicken or ham or extra spice,
- the best part if the dinning experience morning noon and night in all restaurants including the main restaurant is dining with the many wild cats that are allowed to prowl around the restaurants eating from the floor and even a table on one occasion. The staff and management do nothing to discourage this and accept this is part of the Blue Domes experience. Despite the cats we still had rat droppings outside our room. Also ignore the 'dress code' as it doesn't exist. I could upload multiple pictures of guest in restaurants waring vest tops and football shorts, unbelievable,
- none of the restaurants have a children's menu yet claim to be children friendly,
- 9pm loose another hour of your holiday as you queue to book an Ala Carte restaurant for 2 days time. The machine opens at 10pm, however if your not in the queue for 9pm forget it,
- 10:15 evening entertainment is Careoke in the show bar which is like being in Neptune's at the Solanos resort out of the TV show Benidorm.
- Alternatively you can go to the main bar and listen to the many hits played by the keyboard player which reminded me of going to Blackpool Tower ballroom as a boy,
- finally you can wait up to an hour for your drink to arrive, so my tip is order your drink then queue to book your restaurant,
- 11:15 give up waiting for your drink to arrive and head back to your room, which remains tricky as the light bulbs which were reported as not working on day 1 and every day thereafter remain broken and out of action after 2 weeks, so avoid room 301,
- try to get a drink from your mini bar, only to find it remains empty and still hasn't been replenished,
- Off to bed setting the alarm for 6am when I hope to reserve a sun bed for the day.
Groundhog Day and it starts again.

Last point to note is unless you are physically fit avoid this resort as it is built on a hill and you could have to negotiate a min of 100 steps to go from your room to the main restaurant,

Definitely not a 5 star experience as an experienced traveller. Avoid this hotel would be my recommendation. If you have already booked you have my sympathy.

I admit that I was nervous before I went as a few negative reviews had emerged since we booked. However, my fears were unfounded. The hotel was beautiful and catered for everybody. Our 7 yr old girl was entertained all day at Kids Club with crafts, cooking, games, Greek lessons etc (special thanks to Vasia and Elaynia), our 8 yr old son enjoyed the entertainment team led sports including the Olympics, football, obstacle races, water park trips, tennis etc (thanks Zuzu and Claudiu). This left my husband and I free to enjoy hours of R & R during the day and the odd cocktail!

We (over)ate 9 times at the specialty restaurants and highly recommend them all. The menus are quite authentic, the ingredients very fresh and the presentation superb. The buffet restaurant offers a good choice but we do prefer a long leisurely meal and to be served at the table hence our preference for the other restaurants.

Our experience of the service was very good. If you smile and are polite and friendly, you get looked after very well. Drinks were topped up before your glass was even empty. The best service of all was in the Beereria. He is such a happy chap!

The evening entertainment was lively and a good standard for a hotel. The children loved it. Ausra, Hanna, Valentina and all of the evening entertainers were so friendly and talented (most of them are qualified school teachers and certainly know how to entertain children).

We did get sunbeds everyday but I understand some people struggled. There is a lot of empty terrace space around the 14 pools so perhaps the hotel ought to invest in some more. The pool cups are also a bit flimsy and blow over if not held. However, in the grand scheme of things, this is a minor complaint.

If you want entertainment, you can find it. If you want a serene afternoon by the pool, you can find that too!

I give this 9/10 as a good value, family hotel.
