“great holiday”
Reviewed October 27, 2009

we have just got back from the d & t studios and kalamaki and have had the best time ever. the studios are basic but we was never in them only to sleep and shower. we had hot water every day and the studio's are away from all the hussle and bustle so no loud noise on a night. the room was cleaned once on our stay and we did have a few ants but nothing major and the spray worked and they never returned.there was also mosquito's but we bought a plug in although i did get bitten but i must be juicy lol. the studio's are a 5 minute walk to the beach which is lovely and is accessable to laganas although we walked there it was like a ghost town due to storm damage and most shops closed. kalamki was relatively busy for time of year and shops/restaurants/bars were open would recommend mermaids/ambrosia and heavens kitchen to eat and p n p's and drunk corner for good nights as we spent them mostly in there..the staff are really friendly and make you feel welcome. the pool bar is adaquate and the pool area clean and tidy overall we had a great holiday bearing in mind we had a 3yr old with us both memorable for her and us and would return to these studios and kalamaki again as it is a lovely place and island..please dont listen to the bad reviews like i did because i was expecting the worse and was pleasantly suprised although we do all have different opions on things. would recommend to anyone

We stayed at the Dionysis and Tonia in August 09. The apartments are very typically Greek in that they are baisc, but clean and functional. The bathroom even had a shower curtain - luxury indeed. The pool was good - never too busy and a good size to swim in and cool off in.

The location was great. About a 5 minute walk from the lovely beach and less than a minute from the main street. However, it was quiet.

I would also highly recommend the Escape Restaurant - turn right out of the apartment and it's a couple of minutes walk. The staff were so friendly, the location was lovely and the food was fantastic!

All in all, the apartments were a great location for a relaxing holiday.

Me and my partner just got back from our weeks holiday. We read reviews on the hotel on trip advisor and were hopefull the apartments wernt as bad as some had made out....
Thr trip from the airport took about 3 minutes which was a positive. The bar called scorpian bar looked nice as did the pool. We were in 4T on the ground floor in the Tonia Side of the resort. The room was very dark bathroom was about 4ft by 4. The shower (which we had no hot water coming out from for two days) leaked all over the bathroom as the shower curtain was 6 inches too short from the base of the shower, the shower head is not fixed to the wall you have to stand there holding the shower head the positon it back on the holder so it wouldnt go all over the floor then use the shower gel etc, was not good at all.
The bedroom was a decent size two twin beds and a big wardrobe with an electric safe in.Desk with chair and mirror and a balcony.
The kitchen consisted of one cuboard, sink, kettle, two oven rings which you would take camping and a fridge.
Most were minor faults such as a frying pan...no spatula but we had a tea strainer?? cobwebs and squashed migies on the walls from previous guests.
The bar area was nice, staff were not as friendly as other staff we had met in various restaurants and shops etc, but it may be due to they didnt speak great english, but just seemed to want to do anything else but behind the bar and deal with customers.

The side we were on backed onto a carpark behind the local supermarket Which had boy racers in blairing music out at all hours which wasnt good.

Kalamaki itself is loverly . We didnt use the pool as we were so close to the beach we walked there. the Sea is the best ive swam in , there are some rules because of the turtles nesting such as ,your not allowed on there at night, have to be 2 meters from the sea and no further back so you have to sunbath on the wet sand unless you hire sunbeds! hich you dont really mind doing because the beach is so nice.

Would recommend eating in Ambrosia, had the most gorgeous steak diane there and the staff are so friendly, also 'The shamrock' irish bar we had a blast in there with their live music and mad barstaff! and also 'Down under' which is past the Venur bar do some fantastic Cocktails!

Great place to go on holiday! Shame about the apartment, but if your looking for somehere just to rest your head would be fine.

I stayed in the D&T inJune and it was brilliant. My friends (5 others) allocated me to book the week away - no pressure - i came across the D&T but after the reviews was really put off!!! However the dates the hotel was available and the budget really fitted our criteria. Spoke to my friends and we agreed to try it out. We have all been there before last July to Laganas so kind of knew what to expect.

When we got there we were REALLY shocked... it was definatly not as bad as the reviews i had read. The 3 owners are not grumpy, we were a group of 6 girls, bit loud as you could imagine but they were very friendly and helped us when we needed a taxi into Laganas. As some of you might think "yeah your a group of 6 girls, of course they were nice" right? Well actually they were just as friendly to the group of guys we met during our stay as well!

The rooms are standard for the price, and fans are available to rent as it was really hot! The pool was great and the food ok! But we ate out most of the time anyway! The only down side, was the ants on the 1st day - however, they cleared completely by day 3 (there were only like 10 ants btw) think it might be due to the room not being occupied for a few days before we got there. Other then that!!!! BRILLIANT!! and def go to the mermaid for dins! Great in there!!

We have just returned from a week at the Dionysis and Tonia Studios in Kalamaki and have had a great time.

The apartments are very basic inside but are also kept very tidy (as are the grounds) – being cleaned 3 times a week and even the toilet rolls were replenished each time (doesn’t often happen in Greece!!). There is no air conditioning in the rooms but fans can be hired either from the complex or from various supermarkets out and about. The “kitchen” consisted of a sink, cupboard, 2 electric rings and a fridge (along with the expected glasses, plates, utensils etc). The bathroom only has a hand held shower but the added luxury of a shower curtain!! The rooms have an electronic safe available at a cost of 15 Euros a week. If you want 5* luxury then you have to pay 5* prices and if you do have such high expectations of what your room should have… why are you bothering to go abroad if you plan to spend all your time enjoying your room rather than being out and about enjoying the sun and attractions?!?!?!?

The pool is absolutely great being a good size, exceptionally clean and surrounded by plenty of “free” sun beds and umbrellas. It was also really nice not to have music “booming” out as often happens at pool bars!

The 3 brothers who run the place are all friendly and make you feel welcome. Previous comments have said they were rude however the only thing I can assume was the problem is that their English is not “fantastic” at times and some people were maybe too ignorant to understand this fact!! These guys work very long hours between them and I for one know I couldn’t keep up a smile and friendly banter as long as they do!!

The Scorpion bar (onsite) is nice enough and prices are pretty responsible with a large bottle of Amstel costing 2 Euros. Food served is typical “snack” food i.e. burgers, chips, omelettes etc but was filling and nice enough and kept us going until we went out for out evening meal.

The one draw back of this holiday we felt was the rep. She turned up late to the welcome meeting and the information she gave out regarding trips was very “vague” and we made the mistake of booking the Culture Zante evening trip at a cost of 12 Euros each. The trip itself wasn’t too bad but she failed to tell us we would be taken to a village where the only thing that is there is a museum that you get dumped at and you have to pay another 3 Euros each to get into!!! We also had a note put under our door stating we would have to meet up with her the day before we were due to leave in order to receive details for our return flight and after waiting round for her, when she finally turned up all she did was point us in the direction of the notice board and told us our details were there – what was the point!!!!!

The beach is about 10 minutes away and is nice enough but quite narrow in parts and can be strewn with seaweed. The water is lovely though and you can walk out for ages before you get above waist height! Be warned though, its 7 Euros a day to hire 2 sun beds and an umbrella down there!!!!

Kalamaki itself is more or less on one road but is a nice little town/village which caters more for couples and families. There are plenty of restaurants, each doing daily specials and quite a few bars. The Ambrosia restaurant is lovely and we would recommend the fresh cheese croquettes and mushrooms a la crème for starters - yummy! The Cave bar is nice and worth a visit for the view from the turret however it is a little out of the way and quite pricy (5 Euros for 2 small beers!). Also the actual “cave” area was closed off!

All in all we had a great time and would definitely recommend this accommodation to anybody wanting a relaxing holiday in pleasant surroundings.

My boyfriend and I booked the Dionysis & Tonia Studios, as we wanted a clean apartment, not too expensive and self-catering.

When we got to the studios, there was no air conditioning (fine, as I was aware that this needed to be paid for at the bar!). There were ants all over the place. Two small bedside lights, no hot water, no furniture apart from a small table and two twin beds (with wood inbetween), not ideal if you want to sleep in the same bed as your partner.

I would NOT recommend this apartment to anyone - we didn't stay there long enough to see if the maid would clean the room as we checked out the following day.

Also, the snack bar is completely over-priced and not very nice.

All in all, you would be better to book somewhere else (preferable not a package deal either!).
