We stayed at the Rainbow apartments - Kalamaki for 1 week from 1st – 8th August (family of 6 ranging from 8 to 62) staying in room’s 18 (Back of Hotel) and 19 (front of Hotel).
Overall we had a really nice stay with Athena and Nicos. Im going to sum the stay up as a bulleted list.

Good Points

• Very Clean
• We paid for 3 single beds but got 2 singles and 1 double (me and my partner had the double :-)
• Restaurant food is fantastic, so is the bar food/breakfast
• Sophie the bar lady is the most pleasant and helpful lady (thank you for everything Sophie)
• Nice quiet location with a shop right opposite, the main strip of shops and restaurants is a 10 minute walk (same direction as the beach).
• Lovely little pool and bar area.
• Free wifi – but this does not work in the rooms
• Room attended to everyday (sheets not changed though just re-made)

Bad Points

• 6 Euros per night extra charge for the air-conditioning, if your room is at the front of the hotel you will need it! If you’re at the back where our second room was then you won’t.
• Our toilet did not work for the whole week that we stayed, we told nico’s twice but nothing was done, not even the offer of a room change, when I mentioned this on checkout we got a small reduction of our air-con bill, personally I think it should have been free as we didn’t have a toilet!!
• No Kettle
• The cooker is an electric hob burner (desktop) basically a camping cooker which is not useful to cook much on, the cost of food is reasonable in Zante so we ate out anyway!
• No entertainment apart from Karaoke on the night we arrived!

Other points about Zante

Day Cruise - I would not recommend taking the whole day cruise around the island, it is only 20 Euros but you basically just sit on the boat all day long with 3 30 minute stops, it was too long a half day would be more than enough.

Greece as a whole is not as modern as some hotels that you would expect, but this is across the board form what other guest that have been to Greece before said.

Laganas (the club strip) is only 10 minutes in taxi which is 10 Euros maximum from our hotel.
You can hire quad bike for around 30 euros a day, then you can get about and explore the other towns and beaches. Be careful when hiring from Traffic as our quad bike was dodgy and kept braking down!!

The weather is fantastic, 44+ when we were there. I would go back to Zante with my family but I don’t think I’d come here just me and my partner, as we prefer a bit more to do.

I would recommend staying at Rainbow Apartments as it’s a lovely place and they are all so nice there.

We visited in June and this is the first time we have been on a holiday where we would be more than happy to return to the same apartments.

It was very quiet at night & we felt rested each morning.

Our room was very big for the 2 of us and it was absolutely spotless.

its a nice stroll into town at night whether you walk the main road or the back road (up to Michaelos & turn left)

The staff are very helpfull and very friendly. The aircon & SDB are reasonably priced.

There is a small but amply stocked mini market over the road that has fresh bread every morning.

I cannot comment on the pool as we went to the beach most days but it did look very clean with lots of sunbeds.

There are goats & cockerals in the surrounding olive groves but you cannot hear them once you shut the patio doors.

My hubby and I just returned from a weeks stay here. We've never stayed anywhere where everyone has been so friendly. An absolute gem of a place. Sophie behind the bar is a total star and definitely made our mornings as she was so cheerful. The only Tiny issue we had was the size of the shower in our room as it was a little bit on the small side and as the shower head wasn't fixed, it was a bit of a juggling act to wash my hair! lol. however in the grand scheme of things it really was part of the charm of the place. We Will definitely be back to the rainbow - Sophie makes a mean cosmopolitan cocktail!

My husband and I (!) got married at the Rainbow in October 2011. We'd never been here before but we were warmly welcomed and felt immediately at home. The day of the wedding was spent relaxing around the pool, and, whilst I and the groom went to the beach, our hosts and fellow travellers (friends and family) got the veranda and main room ready for the ceremony and reception. It was an amazing day made extra special by Athena & Nikkos. We thoroughly recommend getting married abroad! The apartments themselves were basic but perfectly adequate, with pretty decent bathrooms - and most rooms have great views. Unlike another review here, we didn't hear the chickens next door once! Our best friends have been going here for 15 years and we can see why. Fab Island, great people, and perfect hosts who make you feel part of their family.

As 2 members of a party of 16 staying at the venue for a family wedding, we were blown away by the kindess and hospitality shown by the owners and staff. As has been said on here already, Athena, Nikos and Theo make you feel right at home and nothing is too much trouble. It is family run and it shows. Within 48 hours Athena knew all of our names! Rooms are basic but comfortable. Further to the previous review - there ARE rooms with double beds! Location is great as you are far enough away from the main drag which must be pretty hectic in the peak season. Local (sandy) beach is lovely - 10 mins away. We hired two 7 seaters from the local company called 'Traffic' just down the road. The hotel was spotless the whole time we were there. We ate there every night. Food is typical greek fayre. Very tasty. Athena helped out with the wedding arrangements - the wedding was held on the shaded front terrace and the reception inside. A great time was had by all.

Room Tip: Room 26 has the best views - over the hills and towards the sea.
