“Not Worth the money”
Reviewed August 25, 2013

Food selection and quality was very poor, not suitable for children. Rooms need updating and checking for faults and damage, no doors on wardrobe etc. Flushed toilet and blew shower tap unit off wall? First holiday where we had people ill. Location great, staff are friendly but Thomas Cook reps need to learn how to deal with customers. Been to zante 6 times, great place to holiday, weather always good but this hotel never managed to meet one of our requests, two rooms for family miles apart and couldn't sit together for meals. Very disappointed, would never go again, not recommended.

Room Tip: Book the Marelen over the road

Just returned from 1 week at Golden Sun, we have never written a review before but felt this one deserved it,

Positives - the location cannot be faulted, extremely close to the Beach and within 10 minutes walk to the shops, bars & restaurants.
Very clean communal areas and lovely gardens.
Pool area & pool were fantastic.
Weather fantastic.
Maids cleaned rooms extremely well.

Negatives -

Food/Drinks - wow what can we say, we never expect 5 star food in a 3 star hotel so we are quite realistic with our expectation of all inclusive food & drinks but this has got to be the worst food we have encountered on our holidays so much so that we chose to eat out practically every night, skipped breakfast and barely touched lunch, the all inclusive package was poor from very little snacks during the day (2 slices of toast with a bit of rubbery cheese in the middle to a roll with again rubbery cheese and squashy tomato), food wasn't the hottest it could have been (except for the desserts lol i.e warm water melon, water melon & more water melon), my partner & daughter are very adventurous when it comes to trying new foods but even they struggled to find things to eat & when they did they both said it just didn't taste very good.

Entertainment - There was none apart from 2 nights (unless you call Bingo entertainment) Lack of seating on an evening (many people resorting to lying on sunbeds) I think encourages more people to go elsewhere, us included so complete lack of atmosphere in the hotel (shame to pay extra for your drinks when you have paid for all inclusive but if you want a good evening this is recommended). Only one barman serving all evening which resulted in long queues for drinks (this is not his fault cannot understand why they didn't give him help) we sat in the bar having a drink, went to get another only to be told we had to queue up at a window outside to get one & bring it back indoors with us (although he was serving others in the bar!!)

Showers - minor issue (mainly for the ladies) you have to hold the shower yourself which can be quite interesting trying to put shampoo/conditioner on etc lol, no plugs so if you have little ones who prefer a bath take one with you, also toilet flushing system is hilarious (except when you get up in the middle of the night and wake the next few rooms up when you use the flush).

Airport - We were told to expect some aircraft noise and that the transfer would take approx. 30 minutes when in fact it took less than 10 with dropping of at a different hotel first (this is something we will be taking up with Thomas Cook as we had no idea how close we were to the airport and how very LOW the planes flew over the roof of the hotel itself), DO NOT pay for coach transfer which we did it would be much cheaper to get a taxi as you really are that close to the hotel we will be trying to claim some of this back from Thomas Cook, during the day it was quite good fun watching them fly over but expect to hear them from 4.45am.

Overall a nice hotel in a great location, however they do need to address the food issues and improve the All Inclusive Package. If you decide to go and end up eating out highly recommend The Olive Tree where they have great food and the staff are very friendly.

Room Tip: Ask for rooms overlooking the pool, less plane noise when they come in at 4.45am!! The rooms in the...

The Golden Sun Hotel is such a fabulous place we all enjoyed it thoroughly. Room was spacious enough to fit 2 adults and a child, with 3 big suitcases! Thankyou to all of the staff, Stella, Panos, Peter, Aduel, Anita, Bryan for being so friendly and always trying their hardest to please residents! The pool was very refreshing as it gets very hot in August time and the free airconditioning was a huge help on a night as it can get stuffy! Plane noise wasnt too much of a distraction, it was very amusing watching them fly over the sunset. The beach is only a 2 minute walk and sun beds aren't that expensive. kalamaki strip is only a 10 minute walk and highly recommended for some good bargains. The food is really nice, with lots of choice to suit everyone, however after two weeks, towards the end it does get a little notorious. The pool snak bar is brilliant, Anita and Bryan are always happy to give you plenty of drinks with ice, however ice- creams have to be paid for! Internet is €2.50 for 30 minutes- this may seem expensive but remember that it is expensive for them out there! The hotel is so modern and very clean! The maids do an amazing job of cleaning our room and making the beds everyday. Fresh, new bedding and towels are in your room every other day! George who serves the drinks on a night until 11pm works very hard as queue's form from the inside and outside! Zak the DJ is always asking guests around the pool to get involved in activities such as Waterpolo, Water gymnastics, killer pool, table tennis, lilo racing, bingo etc. Entertainment was ok on a night, the Greek Dancing was amazing, as they get you all involved and spin the children on their shoulders! Could do with a little more entertainment on a night though. We will definatly be returning! Thankyou!

Pool..
Was very deep fab for diving and flipping!
Entertainment..
Zak the entertainer was fab my husband went off playing water polo killer pool/darts/ table tennis etc. evening entertainment of bingo/ Greek night/ fireshow.
All the staff were very helpful and smiling and made us feel very welcome. We would most defiantly return here :)

we staying in this hotel last week. I read reviews before went there and was afraid about the food as I read in all reviews just pomme frites and pasta but have to say that it was a really great choice and all people worked really hard there and did their best.
Hotel was clean and all inclusive gave us all we expected.
The minus point was the size of the room which i have say was really terrible. We had room 102 for 3 people. which was incredibly small.just no space to even turn and place suitcase.
Space is solved very badly for 3 pax. This room was in the underground facing pool so the night music was sometimes quite bothering.
Planes were nice attraction and the noice didnt bothered us.
Exclusing quality of accommodation, all was nice and pleasant.

I visited this hotel the first week of August for me and 3 of my girlfriends after Thomas cook had over booked us into the sirocco hotel, best choice ever! Upgraded to all inclusive which delivered us delicious ranges of freshly prepared Greek food every lunch and dinner, and the Greek yoghurt I had every morning for breakfast was perfect, not to mention the baklavas! As a family hotel I was worried that as 21 year olds we would feel a little misplaced, but we were treated so well and even joined in with some of he hotel activities for a bundle of laughs, we enjoyed a relaxed and well looked after weeks stay at the golden sun and felt right at home! For those judging n the limited buffet tables and dining experience should probably venture to a 5 star hotel on the French Riviera and stop complaining... but for me, it fitted the description and more, Thankyou all :)

Just returned from 11 nights at this Hotel and would most definitely go back . Rooms are basic but spacious , showers are powerful and rooms cleaned daily with fresh bedding every other day . The friendliest staff I have ever met in 30 odd years of travelling . Special mention must go to Zac ( entertainments ) Stella in the restaurant and Brian the young lad who helps out and makes everyone from adults to children feel welcome also George at the bar . There is plenty of food to choose from , drinks were fine , great location . Yes it can be a little noisy at times , toilet flushes tend to bang when handle is pulled , plane noise , but we enjoyed watching them go over so close . Don't know what some people expect for their money , it's not a 5* hotel , but one of the best we have stayed in for the money got years . Pool is a good size , very close to beach , and near to Laganas and Zante Town . Kalamaki itself is a lovely area too with lovely tavernas and bars and quiet too . Thank you to everyone at Golden Sun for a thoroughly enjoyable 11 nights !!!!! Paul & Sonia Bowers x
