Just returned from 11 nights at this Hotel and would most definitely go back . Rooms are basic but spacious , showers are powerful and rooms cleaned daily with fresh bedding every other day . The friendliest staff I have ever met in 30 odd years of travelling . Special mention must go to Zac ( entertainments ) Stella in the restaurant and Brian the young lad who helps out and makes everyone from adults to children feel welcome also George at the bar . There is plenty of food to choose from , drinks were fine , great location . Yes it can be a little noisy at times , toilet flushes tend to bang when handle is pulled , plane noise , but we enjoyed watching them go over so close . Don't know what some people expect for their money , it's not a 5* hotel , but one of the best we have stayed in for the money got years . Pool is a good size , very close to beach , and near to Laganas and Zante Town . Kalamaki itself is a lovely area too with lovely tavernas and bars and quiet too . Thank you to everyone at Golden Sun for a thoroughly enjoyable 11 nights !!!!! Paul & Sonia Bowers x

My wife and I have just returned from a weeks break at the Golden Sun. Not sure what some people moan about as we found the hotel really clean, the staff couldn't do enough to make the stay enjoyable and the all inclusive food and drinks were more than acceptable.
To look at a few points I have seen noted as negatives, the following is our take on it:
Plane noise - Not really an issue, our room, 322 was flight path side of the hotel and whilst we did hear the planes early in the morning, it wasn't too bad
Food - I thought the food here was fine. Occasionally it might not have been as hot as it could have but I think they have worked hard to improve the variety and consistency. A couple of strange items to pick from but hey, it's not England.
Dinner Room - people have said it was too small and poorly organised, I would agree it could be organised better but we never had to wait to get food or wait more than a minute for the maitre de to sort a table
Paying for cold water - I've gotta say "get over it" really. Plenty of water was available to be handed out in conjunction with a cup of ice = cold water. If you think about how difficult it must be to stock a fridge and keep it stocked with cold water, seems like a nightmare. Especially when people are so wasteful with what they do have.
Queuing for drinks - again I have to say "get over it". What pub or bar can you go to where you don't have to queue?? Both the pool bar lady and George in the main bar worked really hard to make sure drinks were given out quickly and as requested.
Loud Music around the pool - Only occasionally when Zak was working around the pool, was great music and added to the holiday feeling
No Plug or Shower Head Holder - This was true, there were neither. Thankfully my wife had noted this prior to departure and purchased one of each for our room at a cost of less than a fiver on eBay. Great investment, thanks to the reviewer who identified this.

Room Tip: rooms with a pool view are very light and sunny (201-211) rooms(215-230)have view of the gardens but where ever you stay in this hotel you will hear the airplanes over head but you will get used to it

We went To Zante on holiday in September 2012- and we loved it! Everything was great, from the hotel and hotel staff to food, The beach is really close, and the face there is a little turtles' reservoir was amazing! Got a chance to see little cuties crawl to the see for their very first time! The water in the sea is crystal clear, the sunbeds were free or very cheap. Coming back to the hotel -all went really smooth from the arrival to departure. The airport is really close too so the transfer doesn't take long at all. Will definitely be going back there again soon!

Room Tip: All rooms are great, we had the one on the ground floor, out patio doors opened to the lovely garden.

We just came back from a two week holiday at the Golden Sun Hotel in Kalamaki room 308 & 314 from 30th June – 14th July. Before going away we were kind of worried about the hotel after reading some of the reviews on here but ignore them! The hotel was great.

AIRPORTS:
From Stansted to the hotel was smooth and quick! .The Thomas Cook plane had a delay of 20 minutes because the on-board computer had a malfunction, but that never stopped us getting to Zakynthos “Dionysios Solomos” Airport 20 minutes ahead of schedule! 2hrs 48 minutes which is always nice! And the hotel was only 10 minutes from the airport which can’t be bad. The flight back to Stansted was just as smooth and quick. We were 5kg over our luggage allowance, so paid the excess which was 18 Euros per kilo. The airport is small but not so bad. The flight back took 3hrs 15ish but felt quicker.

HOTEL:
Firstly the bathroom, yes there is no plug for a bath but if the island has shortage of water it’s a good thing. People are moaning that as the shower has no hook water flooded the bathroom... serious?? Well if you face the shower curtain not a drop should touch the floor... maybe they had the shower curtain open? This was the only room that had a bin and was emptied daily.
Room was cleaned every day or so, bed was made daily, the linen and towels changed every other day. The bed was good but pillows were wafer thin but can always ask the cleaner for extra one or fold the extra blanket that’s in the cupboard and put under pillow. The balcony was OK for the two of us with nice views of the mountains and the pool area. Not a single insect seen in all two weeks!
Restaurant was OK, the staff were lovely, and the tables were too close together but was not too bad. The food could have more variety, but was not cold like other people have said. If you like watermelon you are onto a winner!
The pool is very nice, lot’s of sun beds too. Pool bar was nice but basic, Anita always had a smile on her face and we always had a laugh as well as helping me learn Greek! She cooked cheese and ham toastie, also cakes that are left from lunch. Also there are small bottle of water, Tea and coffee which you make yourself at bar, Red, white and rose wine and draft sodas and larger. There are also canned drinks; alcoholic and non- alcoholic and Ice cream/lollies and at a price, both around 1 – 3.00 Euros. Hotel gardens are beautiful and maintained daily.
Poolside entertainment was hosted by Zach. Activities included water aerobics, darts, Killer pool, Table tennis which sometimes had games against other local hotels which we won when I was there and water volleyball. The music was sometimes loud and repetitive but not bad.
All the staff were brilliant, from Cleaners to Receptionists to waiters. Lucy the Thomas Cook rep was very friendly and happy to help or general chat.
The hotel was 2-5 minutes’ walk from the lovely sandy beach; it does close about 7pm because of nesting turtles between certain months. As the airport is close the planes will fly over hotel... LOW! But it does say on-line Travel sites and brochures so don’t moan on here! Air conditioning is free in July and August only.
Bad points: Repetitive food and un-covered, lack of good entertainment during the day, When you go to the main strip during the evening most of the restaurants bug you to go in and won’t take your first no, I know they making a living but no means no.

Overall, great hotel, great staff, great location, Great Island and great holiday! will be back.

Thanks.

Room Tip: Pool View rooms have great mountain views. The Olive Tree restaurant is a must.
