I went here on July 12th 2012. I went with a group of friends and the holidays itself was amazing, definitely recommend Zante as a holiday! The hotel is a few minutes in a taxi from the strip (only a couple of euros, not expensive) so close but not too close where you can hear all the noise. There is not a lot of entertainment in the hotel, but there is plenty to do outside, with the beach a one min walk out of the hotel and lots of bars and shops around. The pool was clean. Rooms are basic but was clean. A few of the people I went with had an issue with ants in their room and had to be moved and we had some ants too but you couldn't really avoid them because I guess they just have a lot out there, I didn't mind though. Food isn't the best and very basic, not a great variety of drinks but manageable. If you are going on a group holiday with friends then this place will do. I am very easy going and will cope with anything and don't complain, however some people I was with complained at everything. It depends what type of person you are, if you are relaxed and don't expect massive things, this hotel will do you nicely. The staff are very nice and you will have a pleasant time staying at The Golden Sun.

We stayed here for a week in July 12, all inclusive (but found that its not so much all inclusive).

Pool snacks and pop served all day however the snacks were only ham/ham and cheese on toast. You could also get a local larger, which was ok tbh!

Meals were nice with a good selection to chose from, with ice cream only served for free at these times.

Drinks at the bar on an evening...
On the all inc menus were local larger, rum and ouzo ONLY! This was disappointing for a young group in Zante wanting to party! However, after the first night, the manager decided to do a special and included vodka on the all inc menu.

But again, drinking a vodka substitute for 7 nights cant be good for you!

The all inclusive was really the only let down (apart from the entertainer who was sacked after our 3rd day).

Food in the restaurant is really nice and the staff are lovely.

The airplanes are loud but it was not so bad people on here just need to man up!!!

Pool is fab and there weren't stupid amounts of kids here.

This hotel would be perfect for a young group or couple that wants to party but have a nice hotel to go back to and a nice chill out during the day.

For night life you have to go to Laganas as there is not much at all in Kalamaki.

Rooms are nice and if you book with Thomas Cook you don't need to pay for Air-con,
as all of their rooms included this as standard.

Hotel, which many touroperators use with half of fullpension. We choose this hotel as we found a good offer through a tour operator with halfboard. If we would have paid the normal price for the package we would have been very dissatisfied. The good part is that the rooms are very clean, although they charge extra for both AC and internetconnection, internet you have to be in the lobby at least our room did not have any wifi. And the connection is rather expensive, to avoid that many cafes at Kalamaki beach have free wifi, also when you are along the beach. The cons was the food, one of the reasons why you go to Greece is their good food, but what was served here was not good, ok it was eatable but nothing more, we had only breaktast and about the half of the dinners, othe evenings we prefered to go out and pay for good food. Also they have tables for maximum four persons, if you are more you are not allowed to move the tables together. First evening we did that, we asked the waiter he said it was ok, then came some angry guy screaming at us and asking what we were doing, it was apparently not allowed :-(. And in halfboard no drinks are included except awful coffee for breakfast. For the dinner they served some bag in box wine, was cheap and tasted cheap so we bought every evening a bottle of water for 1€ instead. Also at the dinner they have a coffee automat, first evening we took a cup, the waiter came to us and asked were we got the coffee from, we explained and he said that we have to pay for that, but there was no sign to do that, we offered to pour back the coffee into the machine and he left and was rude the rest of the week against us. The pool was mediocre, for fullboard guest they served some cheap alcohol but we were happy for not having that as at the beach you got very good drinks for couple of euros served in a real glass instead of a plasticglass. We can only recommend the hotel if you get a good deal otherwise other hotels are better expecially if you want to use the fullboard options.
The location is good, in five minutes you are at the beach, if you go right there for about 20 minutes you come to the major beach with many cafees and beachchairs.

Room Tip: Avoid rooms which face the airport, the planes pass 100 meters outside the hotel when landing / star...

My partner and I, my partners son & girlfriend just came back from the Golden sun the weather was red hot. Only last 2 days a bit cloudy. Now, the hotel is lovely and clean and well kept. The staff were great and helpful. The entertainment staff really do their best for every one, even though it was the end of season and there was,nt many of us left. The food was good, we never had any qualms, there was always something different to eat (hot or cold). Plenty to drink, beer, wines, spirits(local only),tea, coffee, etc. You can get toasties, sandwiches or cake from the pool bar through out the day (till 6) then dinner at 7 to 9 30. Plenty of sunbeds, table tennis, pool, darts, table football. Ria behind the bar is lovely and always cheerful and the 2 waiters work hard. We would definitely go back,no problem. Some of the reviews are so unfair. Sometimes it makes you wonder why people even go on holiday. We are 4 adults, 2 of us 45 and 2 aged 25 and we really enjoyed ourselves. I nearly forgot, fresh towels and sheets changed daily and rooms left spotless. The planes were,nt a problem for us, they stop after 7 at night and we enjoyed watching them fly over in the day.

Room Tip: we were in room 312,pool view and only 1 neighbour and there,s a lift.

Me, my partner and another couple stated at this hotel for 2 weeks all inclusive at the beginning of October!

Rooms:
Yes the rooms are basic but they are clean, sheets and towels get changed daily so what more could you ask for!

Food:
From reading the previous reviews I was dreading the food! I was pleasantly surprised! Everyone has different tastes which I understand but like previous reviews have said if you want 5* food pay 5* prices! Not everything was too my taste but you can't please everyone but what I did eat was fresh and tasty! My only criticism would be that the food could be slightly warmer!

Drinks:
A lot of reviews have complained about the drink selection! Again you get what you pay for! I think there is enough variety to suit everyone! Yes the beer might be a bit weak but what do u expect there giving it away! Personally if you want a decent cup of tea or coffee take your own!

Pool:
Pool side was excellent! Very large deep pool, great if you like swimming! Always clean and tidy! People have moaned the pools to cold but if your sat in 30 degree heat then jump in its not going to feel warm is it!

Staff:
Again another thing I was worried about after reading previous reviews! But we were greeted very warmly as soon as we arrived! We were shown to our rooms and helped with our cases! Pool side staff very helpful and catered for your needs! Restaurant staff very polite and efficient! Quick to clear your used plates and ask if you would like a drink! And evening bar staff very up beat, friendly and very very welcoming!

All in all a fabulous holiday! 2 weeks of brilliant weather considering the time of year! Remember your holiday is what you make it! So ignore rubbish reviews! You can't please everybody!

One last thing!!! You must visit drunk corner!!!! Fab staff fab cocktails and great for sports fans! Every football match and sports event catered for! O and if you fancy a full English breakfast you must try theirs!!!!!

We stayed 14th - 29th Sept .

Here is my review

ROOMS . We had a nice top floor room overlooking the pool . It was clean and no ants as mentioned by others . Im told some rooms have been referbed recently which ours was . Bathroom a little small and you dont get a plug for the bath and the shower head has to be held while washing . There is a tv and you get Sky news . you do pay extra for A/C out of season .

POOL AREA . Clean and tidy with well kept gargen areas . Pool is clean but be warned if you have small children or non swimmers as there is no lifeguard and in more tha 8ft deep at one end . We used it lots during the week to swim in and have had no ear or eye infections on our return .

POOL BAR . Drinks available all day as well as toasties AM and cakes PM ,

REST AREAS . There were not enough outside seating to cater for all which was a shame but there were seats indoors but its nice to sit out when your on hol on warm eveings

FOOD . A good choice each day with something for everybody . There are tradtional greek dishes as well at Brit food . Chips were always cold !!! However the dinning area is far too small and is very cramped at busy times . Waiters could have been better mannered .

DRINK . We stayed all inc and there is a very limited choice to have , beer is great , wine best hold your nose and drink quickly . Only vodka , Rum and brandy available . Coffee and tea not worth drinking or take your own .

ENTERTAINMENT . One girl doing very little most of the time and was only interested in the younger guests . There were some quiz nights but at 10.30 it was rather late . Many of the day time activities did not happen . If you want some evening entertainment check the hotel opposite ( marleen ) of walk into town which is about 10 mins walk.

EATING OUT . Some good places to eat in town , try the vine tree or ask about a traditional greek place ( michanos ) or something like that . Also try the cave bar for cocktails , great views over the town and beach .

BEACH . Its a protected beach due to the turtles , just 5mins from hotel . very safe . sandy and shallow. Best sit near the water or you will get moved by the turtle vols .

PLANES . Its 5 mins from airport so plane fly very near !! however not sure why others are moaning so much as they would have known this when booking the hol . Planes on fly between 7an and 7pm as a rule due to the turtle protection laws and you get used to them flying over .

OVERALL . Its a small hotel which was clean and tidy . Food ok but best eat out a few times . Service good apart from the guys in the dinning area . Resort good and Island very nice ( well worth a tour round it ) Dont go in peak time if you want a restfull hols and many party going youngsters use it as a base for the clubbing resort nearby .

Room Tip: ask for one facing the pool . less aircraft noice , less sun in pm so you room is not so hot .
