this was our first time at the golden sun. It was wonderful in every way possible the staff were fab and we all had a great time we met great people. The owner was fab he mixed with everyone weather eniglish, greek or anyother nationality. The bar staff were great and we had only been there a day and it was like we had know them for years. The pool table was a bit dodgy and was 2 euro a game but was ok. The ping-pong was free and so was the football table. The snack bar provided salad sandwiches toast/toasties but had to pay for ice cream and chips. The restraunt food was bad as their was the same stuff each night and was mainly greek , The breakfast was not so good as the bacon was sliced ham but fried and the sausages were hotdogs choped up. But was very good in all

Room Tip: rooms over looking pool can be noice but if you are there for fun then the rooms on the bottem floor...

Myself and partner have just returned from Kalamaki, we stayed in the Golden Sun Hotel for 2 weeks, from the 12th August til the 27th August, got to say this hotel is fabulous, the hotel was very clean, the rooms, were basic, but perfect for what we needed, the staff were extremley friendly, our stay was really enjoyable, would like to say a big thank you to Mikka, Ria, Magda, Timos, Marie and all the other staff and a big thank you to our rep Nikki who made it the perfect holiday, Although the hotel is on the flight path to Kalamaki airport, our room 329 faced it, the first couple of days were a little noisy, but once you got used to it, it was fine, actually nice to see other holiday makers flying into the resort.

I've read some of the other reviews on here about the food being poor!!! I strongly disagree, the food was of very good standard, not everyone's taste, but hey you got to live a little and taste a variety of different foods. All in all, we would definitley go back to Kalamaki and the Golden Sun Hotel.

If you go to Kalamaki, it's a must you get yourself some snorkelling gear, according to Manolache G's comment there are no turtles!! well I for one had first hand experience of seeing a very large turtle while out snorkelling with my partner, we also seen baby turtles on the beach during the day, this person obviously never venture deeper than their ankles in the sea!!!

Returned on sunday after an 8 day All Inclusive holiday and had an excellent time. Our room was cleaned daily with fresh sheets and new towels every day. On arrival we had flowers and a bottle of Rose Wine awaiting compliments of the hotel as we had mentioned on the booking form that we were celebrating our 20th Anniversay during the Holiday.
The long and hard working staff were always pleasent (I believe if you are polite when making requests for service it is mostly returned) and could not do enough to help.
The pool bar was always busy and we could not have been better served, even young Bran was a great help and fun.
Food has obviously improved since earlier visits as there was always something that could be had no matter your preferences. The waiting staff were always busy clearing your table and happy to fetch drinks if asked.
At nights Ria and Marda kept us in plentiful supply of drinks and were brilliant fun to be with, even Nico's the owner (who never seemed to do anything but work) came through on the odd night to join in the fun. The reception staff two lovely girls through the day were wonderful and always smiled and took all problems in their stride, and the night cover was equally as helpful and always smiling.
All in all the place was great we had the pleasure to meet some wonderful people and never encountered any trouble worthy of mention and would not hesitate to go back if we get the chance.

Room Tip: Watch flights from Glasgow as they can be through the night and cause problems with accommodation at...

The hotel is very clean, very friendly and close to beach at Kalamaki (200 yards) and the town centre. Pool is larger than others we saw in the local area. Jacuzzi pool and kiddies pool. Free table tennis, table football and entertainment games (water polo, killer pool and darts competitions and the lilo game in the pool (which was brilliant fun!) are available. Quizzes and karaoke available on the evenings. Staff all very friendly and helpful, nothing too much trouble. Restaurant well managed, very clean and food always fresh. We stayed all inclusive which was excellent value as a family of four. Typical breakfast included choice of cereals, hot and cold drinks, bacon, baked beans, eggs, mushrooms, fried potatoes, salads, fresh fruit salad, yoghurts, bread and toast, honey and jams, cheese and ham. Lunch and dinner had a variety of hot dishes which were always freshly prepared and regularly replenished such as pork/chicken/beef in different sauces, pasta with tomato based sauces (delicious!), fried fish, moussaka, cheese flans, spinach and cheese flans, rice, chips, gratin potatoes, fresh salads such as greek, beetroot, tsasiki and pasta salads, roast potatoes, bolognese, dolmades to name but a few. Desserts included a choice of two ice creams (rotated flavours daily), greek plain and flavoured yoghurts, greek desserts such as baklavas and others, rice pudding, jellies, set custard-type desserts, GORGEOUS cheesecake, HEAVENLY mousses such as chocolate or strawberry, fresh fruit was always available particularly water and honeydew melon. There is a small shop next door which sells essentials and convenient to buy things for children such as lilos, balls, sun creams and beach mats. Mini fridge was a bonus in our room. On an all inclusive basis we got 'free' bottles of water daily which we kept in the fridge. Take your own plugs for sink and bath as they don't provide them! Lovely gardens at the hotel, which are very well maintained. There is a small gym downstairs with rowing machine, bikes, weights, mats and sauna. Plenty of sunbeds generally, although guests tend to put towels out early (7am-ish) to ensure they get their preferred spot. The hotel is very close to the airport so the planes fly fairly close by but they are not constant and do not fly at night. It was fun watching them to be honest. Great 5 minute transfer time to and from airport by coach. We went on some trips, which we booked ourselves via the shops/outlets in the town. Much cheaper than buying through a hotel rep. Recommended trips are boat trip around Zante (8 hours) where you get amazing experiences swimming in crystal clear waters by the Shipwreck, sulphur beach and Keri caves. Horse riding is bookable from the hotel - just ask at reception - and is based in nearby Laganas. 20 Euros for an hour's trek through valley and over sand dunes to Laganas beach. Ideal for beginners, lovely experience. If you want to go into Zante Town, taxis are easily obtained either outside hotel or reception can order you one. 10 Euros each way. Avoid going on Sunday afternoons if you want to shop there as the shops are closed. Great cocktail bar about 10 minutes walk from hotel called Red Tail Cocktail Bar is worth a visit. Crazy golf is about a 10 minute walk from hotel. Beach is very close to hotel. 7 Euros charge per day to rent two sunbeds and a sun umbrella. Pedalos available for hire on beach - great way to see turtles. Beach and sea are perfect for families as beach shelves gently into sea, which is usually calm and warm. Excellent holiday - would recommend this hotel as it was conveniently placed for beach and town (and airport!) and was comfortable, clean and good value for money. The only complaint was that the chlorine in the pool could sometimes makes your swimming costumes turn a bit green, but this was raised with the rep who was going to sort out with the hotel.

Room Tip: Rooms with a sea view tend to be nearer to where the planes fly, which can be noisier.

myself and my partner (aged 24 & 29) stayed at the golden sun hotel from the 19th July until 3rd August, it's in a good location about 10-15 minute walk from the main kalamki strip where you MUST visit the Drunk Corner, the staff are excellent and really made our holiday!
The Hotel itself was basic but clean, and food could get a little repetetive however we were only really eating 1 meal per day at the hotel anyway, can get a full english breakfast for 5 euro on kalamaki strip, and also plenty of restaurants to go 2!
Kalamaki itself is more for famalies and couples, if you are looking for clubs, 18 year olds passed out in the middle of the road then laganas is the place to go.
All in all plenty of things to do, however i would warn people about the all day trip to the shipwreck its a very long day cramped on a boat i would advise the 3 hour one.
Would Defo return to kalamaki but may try a different hotel next time!
