Our fifth apartments in six visits to Kalamaki and the Marelen surpassed the others by miles. Me and my other half holidayed with her parents. Her Dad was ill during the journey. Upon arrival Julie was fantastic she made sure check in was swift, brought a cold bottle of water for him to sip and got us to our rooms as fast as possible. The rooms were excellent, the staff brilliant, the location superb. Top class apartments in a wonderful resort. Thanks Julie and Theresa - we had a great stay and WILL be back.

We holidayed in the Marelen the first 2 weeks in September. Our party consisted of four adults and a three year old. We had adjoining rooms and a balcony that could open up into one large one which was great for our wee one. We stayed bed and breakfast . The rooms were great and the breakfast was really good too.Animation team were very talented and the evening entertainment was also good.We were spoiled for choice at night with all the lovely restaurants nearby. Our favourites were Paulos,Merlis,Olive Tree and the fantastic Italian . Dont go near Fanitis food was rotten and it was also the most expensive. They also add a service charge that they forget to tell you about in there speel to get you in. Had a great holiday and met lots of nice people This was our first trip back to Zante for some years and we werent dissapointed. We were an early Monday morning flight home and had no problem booking a late room. We paid 40.00 euros for a room and were pleasanly surprised when we were given a 2 bedroom self catering apartment till our bus came at 3am We will definately be back.

Our holiday ended over a week ago and with a heavy heart we have holiday blues. this is due in part to missing not only Zante itself but this hotel. We have stayed here now two times and we are booked up already for next August. We have children and the splash pool is quite simply a no expense spared thing of beauty. My daughter couldn't get enough of it. The gardens are like something from Hampton court unbelievable and beautiful. Love the rooms, the staff and the man whom makes it tick the owner demitri. The Zeus of the Maralen, meticulous and makes sure every thing is perfect. Great location, great hotel and I wouldn't consider any where else. Demitri has a god like status and always presides and welcomes.

Room Tip: Overlooking the pool is a thing of majesty.

Stayed from Sept 6th to the 16th in 2012.

Accomodation was fantastic we had an apartment that slept 6 with a good size double in one room and twins and bunk beds in the other.
Both rooms had air con and was worth every penny although expensive 50Euro when the weather got hot.

The apartment also had a kitchen diner and was sufficient for our self catering needs.
Rooms were cleaned daily to a high standard with sheets and towels being changed daily.

The staff were very helpful and were here to attend to our every need.

Our apartment was opposite the splash pool and was ideal for my two kids although the large pool was really our daily place of residence.

The facilities are well kept and clean the pool is super, good quality warm water.

The gardens are very well kept and are stunning.
The snack bar is great during the day and serves reasonable priced selection of menu items. We ate at the BBQ night and it cost 30€ to feed to four of us nearly twice over.

Free pizza night was good to with a standard cheese and Tom pizza but supported by chips and a nice fresh Greek salad filled us all nicely and all together with the chips and salad cost 6€. Family of 4 fed on 6€ - great.

A range of drinks are served in both bars well stocked, service with a smile.

Now the staff...... Jerri (kids splash pool bar) fantastic, helpful, bubbly and a great laugh.

Nick (main bar man) superb character works the bar all night long and has a magnificent memory when it comes to drinks orders. Good fun and makes you feel welcome.

Reception staff- Nicki, Theresa and Julie. Fantastic also.

You get a real personel touch at this hotel and we had the whole team helping us with our departure and waving us off to the airport it was all hugs and kisses.

The father of the two brothers that own the hotel wanders around the place talking to people and making sure they are alright and is into everything to ensure that the guests have everything they want and need.
I love the fact that although retired he still loves being part of the hospitality of the place and really gets a kick out of the guests having a great time.

We arrived at the Marelen on august 23rd and we were not let down! The weather was extremely hot!
We were shown to our rooms straightaway, the rooms are basic but they have everything you need and they are very clean. We only managed to eat in the marelen once because there were so many restaurants to chose from and there were only a 10 minute walk away. We would definitely recommened the Olive Tree, the food was fantastic! When we did eat in the hotel it was for free pizza night, we paid 8euro for portions of chips for 6 people and the drinks on top, the food was delicious!
The swimming pool was not to crowded and there were always sunbeds available. The splash pool was ideal if you had younger children, my son loved it!
The beach was a 5 minute if that, down the road. There were pedaloes there to hire, and a bar near by. We loved watching the planes fly right over the beach.
There was a football court and a games room so there was loads to do. We would definitely recommened a trip to Shipwreck, something you need to see! There was so much to do in the area,
We can't wait to return, cant fault the marelen!

Firstly let me just say that this is the first ever time i have written a review, i feel absolutely compelled to write this one. I booked what i thought was to be a 'cheap and cheerful' holiday earlier in the year as money is tight. I travelled with Thomas Cook, alone with my six year old daughter. I am in my late twenties and was looking for somewhere close to amenities, with a suitable balance of both commercialised things for my daughter and interesting Greek things to see for me. The marelen appeared to offer me all the things i was looking for at an extremely reasonable price. When we arrived, we were very tired from travelling all night, we checked in and walked through the grounds to our hotel where i immediately knew I had made the right decision! The grounds are beautiful, the brochure photographs do not do it justice. The adult pool is amply big enough, there were always loads of sun loungers even with your typical towel reservations occurring, the children's pool was ideal to keep the small kids happy and safe, it was never too busy to be used, the kids splash pool is located slightly around the corner from the main pool, apart from being a little cold (which is because of all the water fountains, slides etc constantly moving the water so the sun cannot heat it up like the other pool) was absolutely great! The pictures really do not do it justice the pool is ideal for ages 0-12 it gives them something extra to do and there are plenty of sun loungers by this pool too. The adult whirlpool/jacuzzi pool didn't actually work, but this really wasn't an issue for me. Both pool-sides have a pool bar: the one by the splash pool serves drinks (soft and alcoholic) and snacks like crisps etc, the one by the main pool is open all day and serves hot and cold British and Greek food (sandwiches, salads, burgers, toasties etc) as well as a very wide selection of drinks and sweets, crisps etc. This is not a five star resort of-course but the food in both the pool side bar and the evening restaurant menu is well presented, ample, cheap and edible, what more could you want? You're not going to eat solely there so that's all you need! You expect to get what you pay for, we got well beyond what i expected i couldn't fault the facilities at all. Reception staff (on the whole!) were friendly and helpful, you can exchange money, book late check out rooms, buy stamps, pay for air conditioning etc here. They have a very mini shop selling essentials (bread, milk, biscuits, shampoo, souvenirs etc). The bar was always lively (not packed) plenty of entertainment evening, bar staff extremely friendly, he makes the most lethal cocktails! The thing that makes this place is the staff, there is a lovely lady by the splash pool bar who is very friendly and happy, and a nice waitress/receptionist/jack of all trades that is at the breakfast buffet in the mornings, they both make you feel very welcome and remember you etc. The Thomas cook entertainment team (kids club and adult entertainment) and rep (Jo) were the very best i have ever encountered, so much to do, trips very well explained/organised, very friendly but not pushy, they were awesome and i am not one for being pestered to entertain i like to relax with my book. We did three excursions booked through our rep, apart from not seeing any turtles (out of their hands!) we thoroughly enjoyed each one (water-park, totally turtles and pirate ship). The hotel is located literally two minutes walk from the beach, you can rent pedalos and sunbeds here and see turtles if you are lucky. They shut the beach after sunset due to protecting the turtles. It is approximately a ten minute walk (with a slow hot 6 year old) to the main strip of restaurants and bars, souvenir shops and there is a few supermarkets even closer. We never had a bad meal out (lucky i suppose) but some restaurants are a must: plate smashing and Greek dancing happens in quite a few restaurants but we went to 'Yamas' and thoroughly enjoyed it and the food in 'The Olive Tree' was beautiful (staff not as friendly though). It is a five minute cab ride to either Laganas (party area) or Zante town (harbour town with lots of shops, restaurants, bars) so is ideally located and there is a taxi rank right outside the hotel, but reception were happy to call one if none were there waiting. It cost 10 Euros to get to Zante town. Yes the Marelen is very close to the airport (the whole of Kalamaki is!) but it was really quite fascinating to see the planes coming in to land while laying on the beach or by the pool, how many opportunities will you get in life to see that? The noise didn't bother me (or seem to bother anyone else) at all . All in all i was so happy with this place, we had a wonderful holiday, i was very anxious about travelling alone with a young child for the first time but everyone made it so easy. I have been on many Thomas cook holidays and have never been particularly fussed about returning to one of them (not that they weren't nice) but i can quite happily say i would return here. Thank-you so much for a wonderful stay Marelen. Helen & Faith August 2012.

Room Tip: Some rooms over look the pool area, these appeared to be for the bed and breakfast holiday makers an...
