“Brilliant location, nice hotel and brilliant staff!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 20, 2012

Just come back from two wonderful weeks at the Ionion Blue. Was in room 408 which was wonderful. Staff was always very friendly and very helpful. Pool and poolside bar was great, breakfast good value for money and meals were mainly snack based but could eat there until 11pm at night. Paid for a room on lower floor on day of checking out due to a later flight, which was room 103; did not have a good view as the upper room we had previously, but was very clean. Air con is definately a MUST, as rooms get very very hot! Central to everything, would definately return to the Ionion Blue. The Escape restaurant just down the road is a must visit!!

Stayed here in June 2012 was clean and offered a lower floor room (ask for something higher up) we was then offered top floor room which we took. Was lovely room enough space for two people clean and tidy. All rooms have a pool view.
Maid cleaned room most days that i noticed sometimes not cleaned brilliant but its wasnt dirty.bed sheets changed once the week we was there.
Would stay again here nice pool close to shops and beach. Dont book coach transfer as taxi is cheaper and its not even 10mins from airport i read this before i went but still thougth it cant be right but it is and taxi pick and drops right at the gates of hotel.
Air con is needed for most depends how well you handle the heat if i had younger kids or was older i would of had it,both air con and safe and extras when you get there.
Food cooked at pool side bar was nice enough nothing special but with a load of places to eat just up the road only had snacks there and ate at out all nights with so many places to choose from something for everyone.

Room Tip: Dont accept lower level rooms always lookd dark and hear people complaining about them.

I stayed here for 2 weeks at the end of June leading into July and it really was a brilliant holiday! We was a group of 3 girls and was recommended this hotel by our travel agent (who happens to be a good friend of mine), as she said that it was quiet enough for a relaxing holiday but only a short taxi ride (between €6-€8) euro to get to Lagana! If your planning on going to lagana make sure you negotiate a price before you get in the taxi! And make sure you say that the hotel is in Kalamaki as one night a taxi took us to
The wrong hotel! Zeros and cherry bay are amazing and definatley go on the Bar Crawl that Thomsons organise as they are a good laugh!

When we first got there Roula served us at reception and she seemed lovely and it didn't seem a problem that our flight had arrived early and therefore we had got to the hotel early. We were given a room on the bottom floor and it really wasnt that bad! We quite liked our room because we could just jump over the wall to get to the pool. The pool is big enough for everyone and there are plenty of sun loungers but we put our towels out around 8:30 to get 3 specific beds.

The rep Tom was so helpful! And whoever says he wasn't must need their bumps feeling! He was always on hand to sort out any issues with guests and was always happy and friendly. A number of times we bumped into him in local restaurants and bars at night and he always made a point of asking us how our stay was and if everything was ok (which he didn't need to as it was out of work hours).

Halfway through our stay we were asked to move up a floor as there were two groups of 10 girls coming and a group of 6 lads. We were fine by this so we moved up a floor.

Even though there were groups of 18-30s the noise level at night wasn't bad at all!

The pool bar is reasonably priced and my friend got a little too obsessed with their bacon rolls!

There's lots of nice reasonably priced restaurants on the main street but Iguana Bar is definatley worth a visit! The food and staff are lovely! Harris, Yannis and Spearos are very friendly and the karaoke nights are a good laugh!

All in all I'd definatley go back!

on our arrival, we were greeted by the hotel owner, without many words he gave us the keys to our rooms.
We was tired and happy that finally begin our holidays,
we go to see our room n103 .. NEVER accept to take rooms 101-111. there are no words to describe the miserable condition they have.
It was a dark little moisture filled. next to us were the areas of stuff.
we asked to change the room but the owner had no desire to change our room not even bother ..
whole day was in the bar and chased the euro.
I spoke with Mrs Roula and Tom our Rep did the best they could, so we moved in Room A1. We never buy something from the bar and every time passed by in front of the bar with super market bags he was looking us.
the last day of our departing no one has told us that in 10 the morning we must ti left the room, our flight was at 4 in the morning. The only thing that would bother to take us back is money, if we wanted to keep the room until 6 pm we had to pay 27 euros if we wanted the night 40 euros .. Ashamed of.
there ever again ..

I stayed there the last two weeks of july. I don't know where to start. I ll start with the few good things about this hotel. Helen and Roula the employees are the one good thing in there. they were always willing to help you. they work really hard and even so they re always with a smile on their face. their cleaning lady is really good to her job as Tom their rep is too. the rooms are just good. the worst thing is the owner Dennis who would welcome you with a fake smile and will immediately look at your wallet. whenever you go to the bar to spend money he is friendly but if you don't he doesn't ever care. Be careful cause everything is overpriced and never leave tips because he keeps it and he doesn't give it to the employees.. he is so ridiculous. that man makes money from every thing. He charges the safety deposit 37 euros and 120 the air con...
I hope that was enough to make you understand how much of a gypsy he is.

We ll never go back to this hotel. Next year Venus will be the clear choice. Kalamaki is a very beautiful and calm place with very nice restaurants with good food like Amvrosia Dias and many others... Zakinthos is a wonderful island with lovely and friendly people. we hope the best for Greece!

Room Tip: Only on hight

I recently stayed at the hotel with my son and my partner. When we first arrived i was quite pleased as the room is basic but mainly clean few dirt points (only minor things). The pool in the 2 weeks we stayed i never saw them clean to be honest! And also the baby pool is disgusting and absolutely shocking as it was absolutely filthy with dirt it was vile staff definitely need to clean it. As for the staff they're ok the man i preffered out of them all and a other thng didnt like was in the day/night they had there family/friends around i feel the bar should be for customers only.

When we stayed there were a lot of young people (males) very loud, noisy, had music playing all night and we werre told it was a family resort! The pool was not big enough for how many people there was in it as it gets very very busy.

The cleaners come in most days but i found one of them quite bossy and rude to us. Food is horrible at the hotel/bar and very expensive i wouldnt recommend eating there for food! Yamas is very nice restaurant

The travel cot we got provided with was horrible and i never let my son stay in it as it was dirty

the bedroom size was good, tv provided wasnt very good though

hotel provide a hair dryer in the bathroom

last thing i was not happy with was the bath doesnt have a plug, why have a bath if you have no plug provided to have one?! daft !

on the whole, i would probably stay again if few things changed, and it was very expensive to stay.

last thing is the rep, tom, he wasnt useful at all, the questions we did ask regarding kalamaki he didnt know!! and wasnt helpful at all to us

oh and at night it was very noisy, air con is expensive and very noisy too!, heard children and bars all night, couldnt get sleep until late cause of the noise

Room Tip: wouldnt have basement room!! they are very low and no views at all

I must admit I was a little bit worried about staying at this hotel after reading some of the reviews; however we had a lovely stay. Me and my boyfriend stayed at the Ionion blue during the first week of July and overall had a very nice holiday. We had a room on the 3rd floor which was very clean and had everything you would expect of a self-catering apartment. Cleaners came in every day to make beds and left us fresh towels on several occasion during the week. We are in our early 20’s and felt the hotel had a good mixture of people. There were a few groups of young girls and guys staying there who were obviously going into Laganas evenings and then coming back to the hotel. Thankfully they didn’t disturb us but can imagine that for people staying in rooms next door this could get a bit annoying. The staff were all very friendly and the hotel and pool area were all kept very clean. The sting of 90euros for the air con and safe for the week was a little annoying but definitely needed. Kalamki itself was a very nice area, great choice of restaurants and bars and a nice beach all within easy walking distance. We hired a car for three days and explored the island, very beautiful with lots of unspoilt places to visit such as Porta Limnionas and Porta Roxa.
