We stayed at Quinta during the Memorial Day holiday earlier this year. Unsure of what to expect, we were surprised by the friendliness and attentiveness of the entire staff. We were quickly reminded of the Mexican hospitality my wife and I had grown up with. We stayed in I believe a double room which provided plenty of space for a family of 3. During our first night, we ended up at the bar having a drink and hanging out with the executive chef, sous chef, and bar tender. We had a blast discussing the Mexican wine region in Baja, the latest trends in gastronomy in California compared to Mexico, and other topics. What amazed us the most is they asked when we were having dinner at the restaurant and offered to make any item we wished. My daughter asked for pasta and the sous chef hand made a past dish for her. I went for the daily special, a rack of lamb in a birria inspired sauce. AMAZING!!! Worth the trip back!

Near the hotel there is plenty to see and do, especially try the nieve de garaffa. English is not spoken in most places we visited, which wasn't a problem for us, however if you do not speak any Spanish, might want to hire a translator/guide for the day.

We felt safe the entire time we visited Tlaquepaque, even at midnight as we walked back to the Quinta. From my understanding, this area is great.

Oh, and while at the Quinta, try Tequila Fortaleza. Simply one of the best drinks I have ever had! Similar to a fine Scotch, just slightly sweeter.

Enjoy!

Room Tip: We had a poolside double room. If you've had too many drinks at the bar, you might splash into t...

The place, the people, the price...5 stars out of 5!

Our first trip to Mexico could not have been more enjoyable. The Quinta Don Jose owner, Arturo, and the carefully selected, well-trained and personable QDJ staff will direct you to great shopping on and around the Plaza, just two short blocks away. Or, if you would rather hang out by the pool, you will be welcome to do so. Charlie makes great margaritas!

Whatever your choice of activities, your lovely room at the QDJ is a comfortable base of operations. Most staff members communicate well in English, so don't worry if you do not speak Spanish.

Have at least one meal in the QDJ restaurant, the TelaquePasta. You will almost certainly want to eat there again...and again.

If I could think of a disappointing moment I would tell you about it. There is nothing about the QDJ to dislike. Thank you, Arturo!

Room Tip: Request a poolside room

This place is so awesome. The staff are very helpful, competent, friendly. This hotel is a mini community where all the guest talk and have a good time. You really feel at home.
The architecture and art in this place is really neat. The rooms are comfortable and extremely clean. We traveled with my in-laws and they fell in love with it. The restaurant has a professional chef. Our dinner was incredible and fairly priced compared to some of the surrounding places.
We will definitely go back!

I cannot imagine a more pleasant stay than our recent trip to Tlaquepaque. Quinta Don Jose hotel is really much more like a bed and breakfast than a hotel. The intimate surroundings, personal services, all sitting in the middle of the colonial city of Tlaquepaque combine to make a very unique and pleasant visit. The driver that picks you up a the airport may also be the guy who mixes your drink. The lady that serves your breakfast may also clean your room. It is amazing how the staff becomes part of your family for the short time you are there. Hats off to everyone at QDJ for a job well done.

Room Tip: all of the rooms are great, each with their own charm, but if you can get one by the pool it is well...

My husband and I stayed at Quinta Don Jose (QDJ) for three nights in late August. The hotel is quaint and clean. The staff are pleasant and helpful. The hotel is centrally located in Tlaquepaque and on a bus line directly to downtown Guadalajara. We stayed in the main hotel. The one bedroom villa, which we had originally booked, was on a corner and the bedroom window was right on a main street. We also like the beauty of the hotel and wanted to be more connected to it. Though the villa was large and nice otherwise.

The grounds were beautiful and we walked around the pool and fountain area, though we did not spend much time by the pool. There are many nooks in the hotel to read or visit.

I did write a separate review for Tlaquepasta, but I should mention here that it is one of the best parts of QDJ. We will definitely stay there next time we are in town.

Room Tip: Villas, though "only 50 steps away" feel removed from the inn. For us, this was a negative...
