“Nice Surprise”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 4, 2013

We had a late night dinner the night we fly into Guadlajara and lunch a few days later. The menu is varied with many different options breakfast through late night snacks. We happened to be staying in the apartments above and owned by the same people. This is a superior family operation where all family members chip in.

They have entertainment most nights - single musicians, bands and even a circus act one night we were there.

“Perfecto por Desayuno Romantico”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 16, 2013

I went on a breakfast date to this café and will return (hopefully with the same person). We arrived early in the morning to an empty space; by the time we left there was a small crowd. The service was friendly and prompt. We ordered the "buffet," a fixed-price which includes coffee, juice, fruit salad and an entrée. My friend chose Huevos Divorciados - eggs with red and green salsa - and I opted for Chilaquiles, a tradition dish of chips simmered in sauce, topped with cheese. The food was presented beautifully and tasted delicious (though a wee bit cold). After breakfast we lounged on the sofa, drinking coffee while the staff worked around us - offering refills and cleaning quietly. Gracias, La Mata Tinta, for a relaxing, wonderful morning.

“An oasis on a hot (or cool) day.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 6, 2013

The atmosphere is great. La Mata Tinta is set back off the street in a small shopping complex. There is a large open air seating area in the front. Venturing further in reveals the bar in the back and a secluded seating area to the left. Staff is friendly and attentive, but English language may not be available depending on who is working. A rudimentary knowledge of Spanish will get you by.
A selection of Mexican beers is available; Indio, XX, Bohemia, & Tecate. You can also have coffee, juices, wine, cocktails or liquor.
Food menu includes appetizers, salads, sandwiches (Panini or Wrap) and about six entrees. I have only tried the house made chips (mafalda). They were good, but would be better shared with others. Next visit, if solo, I would try the nachos guacamole.
Be sure to ask about drink specials. Often they will offer 2 for 1.

“My favorite place to hang out in Tlaquepaque”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 14, 2012

I lived in Tlaquepaque for 5 months, and this is where I always went to hang out.

The atmosphere is great with both outdoor and indoor seating. There is free wifi and a fantastic wine selection as well as coffee. You can order nachos, cheese platters, salads, etc. to munch on, although I would plan to eat a meal elsewhere.

Often there is good live music (not mariachi but folk or jazz music) going on in the evenings.

The servers also speak good English.
