We just returned from our second trip to Tlaquepaque and to Casa de las Flores. And the reason we went back a second time? Tlaquepaque is a shopping delight for arts and crafts and the residents are open and friendly. In fact many of the shopkeepers remembered us from the previous year! It also is close to Tonala which is an arts and crafts delight. If you can't find it there, you don't want it. Guadalajara proper is a short taxi ride away. And the restaurants in Tlaquepaque are very good and very reasonable. Try El Patio, and especially Rio San Pedro. Sandwiches and Friends is good for a nosh as well. Now more about Casa de las Flores. It is a 7 room B&B. Beautiful garden and public rooms. They have an extremely fine collection of local art (some for sale, some in their private collection) and are happy to give you an insight into the local pottery especially. There are 2 suites, 2 with 1 bed, and 2 with 2 double beds. The 7th is smaller than the others but I think it has 2 double beds as well. The rooms are comfortable and very clean. Every other day, one of the hosts cooks a fresh vegetarian breakfast. There are no choices but believe me, you generally don't need one. The off-day is generally cereal with fresh juice, empanadas made in Tlaquepaque, fresh fruit, and walnut yoghurt. They have a bar as well. The staff are mostly bi-ligingual, friendly and congenial. They can arrange for artist's studio tours with their nearly exclusive driver who knows the area like the back of his hand. And one of the best parts of the Casa de las Flores experience are the other guests. The last two times we have met other travelers who have become close friends. The hosts seem to attract interesting, congenial guests even though the guests' backgrounds may be quite varied. So if you want a place to hole up by yourself, Casa del las Flores isn't the place and you'll miss meeeting some of the nicest, most interesting people.

Casa de Las Flores is one of the most beautiful Bed and Breakfasts we have ever stayed in anywhere! It is an oasis hidden in a former village on the edge of the Guadalajara metropolitan area--giving you the best of options: tranquility with access to the cultural advantages of a great city. The owners and staff practice the art of exquisite hospitality; The breakfasts are beyond compare, the gardenlike ambience incomparable, and the unique art-filled atmosphere attracts interesting and friendly guests. We plan to go back!

We have just returned from the Guadalajara area where we stayed at Casa De Los Flores, a small B&B in the "suburb" of Tlaquepaque. We were there to purchase furniture and art for a Baja home we are building. This B&B was recommended by a friend, to whom we owe a large Thank you! It was truly a wonderful oasis, the perfect place to return to following a day of shopping. Our hosts, Stan and Jose, couldn't have been more gracious, knowledeable about the area and generously helpful. Being art collectors themselves, all rooms are filled with the works of local artisans. Stan's special 'tour' of the Inn is a 20 minute education in art, the abundant Folk Art of the area in particular, and he is wonderfully knowledgable. He is also a fine chef, as our yummy breakfasts and desserts can attest.
Our room was quiet, roomy and well stocked with everything we could hope for. The staff was equally gracious, always offering extra help with anything requested!
We especially appreciated the incredible gardens that make up the center of the Inn, giving privacy to the rooms and seperating them from the outdoor patio. We obviously shared that love with the many birds and bees that came to visit the blossoms.
Stan, a native of California, living in Mexico for over 20 years, is the perfect combination for a traveler who may have a bit of aprehension visiting Mexico. An English-speaking 'native', if you will, with a generous nature and obvious love for his adopted home.
Casa De Los Flores was truly a home away from home and we hope to repeat our experience as soon as possible.

This B&B is a real gem - I just returned from five nights at Casa de Las Flores. This lovely haven is filled with folk art, features an enchanted garden, and is a perfect place for a relaxing, serene vacation. I only spent part of a day in Guadalajara - Tlaquepaque and Casa de Las Flores were the places where I wanted to be. Breakfasts were gourmet treats. Our hosts were gracious and helpful - they really made our stay memorable. Don't let the reasonable rates fool you - this is a real find - top quality - I'll definitely return.

My husband and I have travelled a great deal over many years and I'm having a hard time coming up with a better experience than that we had recently at Casa de las Flores. We always prefer personalized accommodations where we don't feel like anonymous business travellers so this was an ideal place for us.

The location is easy walking distance from the heart of Tlaquepacque, an outlying area of Guardalajara where there are plenty of good restaurants and shops and a couple of very instructive ceramics museums. Handmade ceramics are of great interest in this area, despite the intrusions of modern culture and Stanley Singleton, one of the owners and a former California painter is extremely knowlegeable about the field. He can arrange trips with a bilingual guide and driver to the home/studios of nationally recognized potters.

Our room was immaculate and spacious, replete with plenty of ample sized towels, as much drinking water as we needed, plenty of lighting for reading, and perfectly working plumbing; things one often takes for granted but rarely finds in their entirety in Mexico. There is a lush garden, designed by the other owner, Jose in which to relax. It is located between the lodging and the living and dining areas which are marvelously and colorfully adorned with Mexican folk art of all kinds.

A detailed map of the town is provided along with recommended restaurants and local landmarks. Trips to Guadalajara and neighboring Tonala can be easily arranged.

Mr Singleton is a gourmet cook and provides marvelous breakfasts and scrumptious desserts that are complementary. There is even a small family-run restaurant across the street for local color and typical local food.

The ample and devoted staff is perfectly trained to accomodate your needs. We ended our month long Mexican holiday here and found it to be a delightful vacation from our vacation.

This is a beautiful place. Stan and Jóse are wonderful hosts. The entire establishment is a work of art and a culinary delight!
I spent eight days and nights there. I studied Spanish in a school close by.
Los dueños and staff were so hospitable and helpful.
Stan gave specific directions, help in español and great conversation.
His breakfasts and postres were the perfect start to eight marvelous days.
I am so anxious to return!
Finally, the garden with the hummingbirds (colibris) and follage, so carefully tended by Jóse was unforgetable.

Casa de las Flores is a unique 7 guest-room oasis in Tlaquepaque, famous as a center of traditional Mexican arts and craftsmanship. The location is 15 minutes away from the center of Guadalajara and just three blocks from the famous historic center of Tlaquepaque in a traditional neighborhood. Casa de las Flores offers a relaxing retreat with it's large flower-filled garden, traditional surroundings and very roomy accommodations as well as a bar that can provide killer Margueritas. Stan, Jose and Carlos are all fluent in English and Spanish, and can provide special services such as being your translator and guide, and happily arrange tours by a couple of excellent local guides as well. They also suggest points of interest, recommend restaurants, and make reservations and connections with services or businesses if you choose to ask. And last but not least, their included hearty breakfasts and Stan's surprise evening desserts make you feel as good as or better than home.
