“Made to feel at home...”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 30, 2012

At the end of November we decided to visit the Valencian region in Southern Spain. We had a great week in the area, the weather was sunny and the temperature just below 20 so ideal for walking and cycling.

At Villa Florencia, we were given a very warm welcome and made to feel at home throughout our stay. We were cooked some excellent meals and our room was cleaned daily. We were able to book a very substantial packed lunch if we were spending the day walking or cycling and there was plenty of information and advice on where to go and what to do. Free WIFI is also a bonus!

Thank you to Mark and Nigel for a very enjoyable and relaxing week.

We arrived in the afternoon of the 15th September after the previous party of 14 had left but you would never have known! A wonderful warm welcome from Nigel and Mark with their canine family Lola, Aurora and Sandy getting to know our 8 month cockapoo pup Monti! A bar with cold beer on arrival - much needed after driving from Perpignan. A spotlessly clean bedroom, tastefully furnished and decorated, with tea/coffee making facilities (a rare find throughout Spain) and bottled water. The spacious ensuite was gleaming in all white with thick soft towels. We opted to have supper cooked by our hosts which was just delicious..no driving so could also enjoy wine with our meal Breakfast....well a veritable groaning table of breads, cereals, hams, cheeses, eggs, preserves.....and freshly made coffee. The glass dining area is overlooked by the "magic mountain" and overlooks the gardens and pool. The downside for us - unfortunately we were only staying for one night as we were driving to Estepona. Everything was just perfect, we felt totally at home and enjoyed Nigel and Mark's company which was never intrusive - natural hosts who have worked extremely hard to build their wonderful villa into the reputation it deserves. We are delighted to have found this "fabulous find" and look forward to returning. Thankyou Nigel and Mark and also to find you were so pet friendly was an added bonus.

Room Tip: Just email Nigel and Mark and they will accommodate your needs.

After reading all the positive reviews we decided to give this place a try. After a weary day of travel we eyed two chairs by the the sparkling pool. Armed with books we headed to catch a nap. To our surprise while we were relaxing our hosts pulled up chairs to engage in conversation. Although nice, Mark and Nigel were always with us. Although we like animals, the dogs and cats are allowed on all furniture including the cat on the dining table. Our spartan room was clean and convenient for travel into Valencia but overall this place was just not our cup of tea.

Thank you for taking the trouble to write this review and share your experience with fellow travellers. It came as a surprise to learn that you did not enjoy your stay with us as much as you would have liked, and we only wish you had given some indication of this during your time here. Your room was a large, twin room as requested with a modern en-suite bathroom, air conditioning, tea and coffee making facilities and soft furnishings appropriate to the climate. It is unfortunate that you felt this to be “Spartan”. As far as socialising with you is concerned, we actually found it rather difficult to disengage from your conversations, and upon returning from an excursion, you always seemed keen to come in to the bar for a drink to tell us all about your day’s events,…. Regarding our pets and the level of interaction, this is something we always try to gauge with each guest. Again, this came as a surprise that you found them intrusive as you always seemed keen to interact with them. However, they are most certainly not allowed on “all the furniture” and no cat has ever been on any table that you ate from. We hope that the rest of your trip around Spain was up to your expectations.

We stayed at Villa Florencia Casa Rural from 8-15 September and had a wonderful time. Mark and Nigel were extremely helpful in advising on the local area and arranged a day long bike excursion for the youngsters and advised on supermarkets, beaches, markets etc. We were a party of 14 family and friends and all found the the villa extremely comfortable with all the home comforts. Pool and surrounding gardens were very relaxing, with plenty of sunbeds and shade if needed. Age range was 17-74 and everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves, would definitely visit again.

We decided to catch some late summer sun and took our 19 month old overseas for the first time. We found this reasonably priced 'home from home' feel villa with some resident dogs and cats which impressed my son and he'd perfected his impersonations by the end of our week stay. We stayed in the apartment which was great to have our own space and kitchen area to please ourselves during the day but in the evenings it was lovely to have our meals made by Mark who is an excellent cook and I've got some of his secret recipes to try at home, his tasty home cooked menu which the whole family enjoyed and clean plates all round. Nigel and Mark are such welcoming hosts who can't do enough for you. Thank you again for a lovely relaxed week, we will be returning soon!

We have stayed at Villa Florencia three times - each stay lasting a week. It is our annual Spanish summer fix. A convergence of factors makes this place a favourite: a magnificent pool, marvellous hosts Nigel and Mark, superclean accommodation, being nestled among citrus orchards, and of course, the "magnetic mountain" which seems to have a mysteriously calming effect on one. We stay in the self-catering apartment with the option to partake in the evening meal service. The food is comfort, home-cooked fare - very tasty indeed. Gandia town is a few kilometres away by car and is well worth an excursion or two. We discovered some great restaurants there and particularly enjoyed the tapas route Nigel and Mark introduced us to. And the lovely city of Valencia is only 45 minutes away by car or train. We recommend Villa Florencia wholeheartedly.

Again, we have the best experience with a 'casa rural' in Spain. This was by far the most family-like accommodation we have ever had. The owners - Nigel and Mark were extraordinary nice and helpful, hosting us like old friends. The rooms, pool, surroundings and atmosphere in general were spotlessly clean and simply excellent. Perfect and quiet room A/C.
A dinner is offered by order and we have chosen it twice: fantastic homemade food at one table. Sandwiches and bar available all day. Much more than a continental breakfast is included.
Spacious room and bath, plenty of place for much too much luggage we always have. I wish I could give 6 points rating...

Room Tip: We were in a bigger room called Annie (east side window) so there was OK with temperature even when...
