We had a sidetrip to Iligan City when we were in Cagayan De Oro. Its about 2 hrs away from CDO and we opted to visit Tinago and Ma. Cristina Falls.

Tinago in Tagalog means "hid" or "hide" - and indeed Tinago Falls is one of the hidden treasures of the Philippines. One of the most beautiful falls I've ever seen. You have to take 425 steps down (going up is going to be hard!) the stairs to be able to see this majestic falls. The entrance fee is about 10php each. There are tour guides who will offer their service to you and its up to you how much you're going to pay. Our tour guide is very nice and really helped us paved our way to the actual falls. I suggest that you buy your food or water or other needs there to help out the locals.

Going here from Cagayan de Oro is quite tiring because of the distance. Getting to the falls will require a short drive from the main street and a short trek [around 15 minutes, descending]. This has got to be the MOST beautiful falls I've ever seen in the Philippines. This has the bluest water [and not the color of soil] and it's very clean. Very safe for swimming even for children because they give out life jackets. They won't allow anyone to swim if they don't wear this. It has a comfort room but I don't know if it's clean because I didn't get to use it. You can bring snacks and drinks [but please, please, please keep the space clean]. Tables can be rented out and there's a very minimal entrance fee which you can pay at a small convenience store before trekking. Had a very enjoyable stay but going back up is tiring because of the ascending steps.

Tinago Falls is my favorite so far. You need to traverse over 500 steps of stairs to get to the falls so wear your most comfortable footwear. I love its cold clear water and the small cave where one can enter and explore. Be sure to bring some food and water because I am sure that you will get hungry when you get to the falls.
