It was my first and brightest experience in our journey to Normandy as well as my first stay in Chateau. Extremely friendly hostess and owner, keeping the atmosphere of medieval old Chateau. We've been late for a dinner due to heavy traffic in CDG airport, arrived around 11 PM, but the lovely moroccan woman serve us right in our room in upper floor with chicken Tajine, cheese platter and wine. The room was clean, the smiles was hearty, but the dreams and pillows raised me to heaven.

Found this hotel after much web searching to break our journey down to the Dordogne and booked for two nights. Visually the approach to the Chateau is stunning but the interior is even better. Our room, the Orangerie, was in the grounds a few metres away & was decidedly quirky (in a nice way) but had the disadvantage of a complete lack of hanging or storage space - curious for the most expensive suite in the place!
We had booked dinner and were invited to pre-dinner drinks for a half-hour (inc in the 42Euro price for dinner) in the beautiful drawing room. Several drinks later we went into the delightful little dining room and enjoyed the most wonderful meal we have had for a long time - 5 courses including coffee and every one was a perfect example of what I can only describe as a pinnacle of home cooking. Staff were warm and friendly and couldn't do enough.
After a day exploring the local countryside we took dinner in the Rive Droite restaurant (also owned by the hotel). Situated in an old lace factory this is a contemporary place serving excellent food. The service was friendly but the only downside was a wonderful main course served on cold plates.
The Chateau de Saint Paterne is going to be a regular stop for us.

Room Tip: Just look at the pictures on the web site and take your pick to suit your ideal of style and budget...

Receiving a last minute invite to Le Mans 24 hr - we needed accommodation. At this late stage alot of hotels where fully booked up - infact Chateau de Saint Paterne was showing full on popular Hotel websites but one was showing one room free. So we rang the Chateau direct
and Halima said she had one room left - so booked and gave a deposit over phone.
We drove following day - if you print off map from Chateau's website it is easy to find just off
Exit 19 South Alencon. When you drive in - you just say whoo lovely.
We where greeted by Segolene given a brief tour and shown to our room - an amazing room looking over the lawn with 4 poster type canopy - lovely wood panelled bathroom with shower.
The following day we also discovered room had neat little bunk room attached.
Since there was
just enough heat in sun - we went down for a quick swim and drink in pool area. A full drinks fridge you just have to write down what you take.
Then up for Bath and ready for pre-dinner drinks - we had booked dinner night before on the phone. Food is just out of this world - however, need to be able to eat most things as there is
no choose (I am sure if you where vegetarian they would happily cater with warning).
Starter of Camebert cheese with apple, Lamb with vegetables, salad & cheese, and chocolate fondant - followed by coffee in lounge.
It is lovely when things far exceed your expectations and this Chateau - Charles & Segolene and their staff certainly did - Thank you

We stayed at St Paterne for one night in June and this place was a great 'find'.

The bedroom was incredibly beautiful; situated on the first floor with enormous windows, silk wallpaper, comfortable bed and charming bathroom with free-standing bathtub. The common areas on the ground floor are tastefully decorated and there is a very relaxed atmosphere with well stocked honesty bar and guests mingle and chat with one another pre dinner.

High points: Beautiful bedroom, great food, very good value.

Low points: In common with all old buildings, floors are a bit squeaky and you can hear other guests moving around at night. If you don't like kids, nb. this is a child-friendly hotel. Local countryside is not the most beautiful in France (although this is a convenient staging post if heading further South from Calais on the West side of Paris).

On balance this is a lovely place and I will certainly be going back. Proprietor Charles-Henry and his wife are extremely nice and speak very good English. Thumbs up.

We stayed for 3 nights as a base for the MotoGP at Le Mans. It was the perfect location for both Le Mans and also for touring the area. We ate twice at the Chateau, the evening meal was priced at €47, & even though no choice was offered, the menu on both evenings suited all four of us in our party and was absolutely delicious and well-cooked. The rooms were delightful, L'Occitane toiletries were on offer with plenty of towels, a hair-dryer was provided, as well as a tea / coffee making facilities. The honour bar is a really good idea, and a nice place for socialising with the other guests.

We had one night here en route to the Dorogne. It just wasn't enough and we wish we had stayed longer. We were made very welcome on arrival and, as they were not serving meals that night, the owner drove us to an excellent restaurant in Alencon then collected us at the end of the evening. It is hard to understand those who have made negative comments - perhaps they would be happier in a Travel Lodge, where all the furniture is modern and the bathrooms antiseptic. If you want to stay somewhere that is full of charm and history this is the place.

This is a magnificent place to stay. The owners are very welcoming and friendly. If you are travelling as a family, I highly recommend The Chambre de Canard, which interweaves a glorious room with modern facilities for the children keeping all the ambience of the chateau whilst allowing for a pleasant and comfortable stay. Basically, we all loved it here. The chateau and it's setting in the beautiful Normandy countryside are just right.
