Bad Food, boring Food and unprofessional cuisine, Ex: Watermelon Juice with many pip!!!
There are many cats and dogs on the beach, friendly around us, our boys liked it, but the man, manager of resort kick the cat many times, because he loves his dog! So surprised !
And very important thing, must be official respond!
When we came in by boat, 8 km, from Maya, we transfer to small canoe difficulty and pay so much over charged by porter in the port . We check out 29th Dec 2013, and we order resort Transfer, a boat with luggage handing included, 1500 peso total. I don't have any experience about marine weather, they said maybe big waves. But when we leaved, weather was so bad, the dangerous situation. My family were so scared, we need life vest. But No, they are just the local boat, no life vest !!! Later, they stopped outside and transfer us to a small canoe with big waves, and 2 young guys ask me pay charged for canoe!!! At the Port, after 45min terrible, nobody help us, and i was myself carry the luggage, although i payed already for Resort!
Resort Staff just sell service, and no take care guest later!
I need an official answer from Resort??? This is a big Problem. can not accept!

This is our second visit to Ocean Vida. We had such a great stay the first time during our 10 month backpacking trip in Southeast Asia that we returned from Canada for some diving. Sven and Fabian make this a welcoming, warm and inviting place to stay. Both greeted us on our return and visited with us several times during our week long stay. Staff are friendly, helpful, and efficient; calling us by name and always warmly greeting us.

We used Ocean Vida transportation from the airport and everything went smoothly.

This time we stayed in the ocean view rooms and what a treat! The mirrored windows allowed us to leave our curtains open so we could enjoy the view. Rooms are clean and spacious. Beds were very firm with a duvet and four pillows. A/C worked well, as did the ceiling fan. Windows and doors sealed so no mosquitoes got in. Hot water was available. I brought my own soap and shampoo however they do provide both. Our suitcases didn't make it to Cebu from Manilla till the next day so Fabian supplied us with bug repellent and Sea Explorers loaned us equipment to use which was super. There is plenty of storage, a mini bar with inexpensive food and drink, a kettle, tea and coffee, great lighting, and beach towels to use. If you use a washcloth, just keep the one they give you on arrival.

Ocean Vida has done a lot of work to restore their resort since the typhoon. The garden looks better than ever and many coconut trees have been planted. Trees are getting their leaves back so things look really good. We were impressed. The restaurant is fully functional and food was always hot and decent. When Sven heard we only ate chicken, he introduced us to the chef and encouraged us to ask for accommodations to the menu. One time we took advantage of this and had a great meal as a result. If you are vegetarian or have a dietary restrictions, be sure to let Sven know as I am sure he will do his best to make you happy.

Breakfast is included and is buffet style; although you can get an omelette made to order. There were freshly baked rolls, breads and croissants, home made jams, scrambled and boiled eggs, beans, bacon, hash and fresh juices. Unfortunately I had some sort of bug on arrival so I couldn't always eat what I wanted. When Sven heard I was sick, he made me a super veggie drink that helped quite a bit.

The beach was clean with lounge chairs. Unfortunately during the end of the week visitors started reserving the loungers early in the morning; something I typically see in the Caribbean and not in Asia. We were there to dive (see Sea Explorers Malapascua for review) and spent our free time on the balcony or at the bar visiting Sven. Drinks were good. Happy hour runs 4 - 6 with 2 for 1 cocktails.

By the end of our week, we felt like part of the Ocean Vida family and got warm hugs from all when leaving. We were genuinely sad to go and plan on returning in a couple of years. I highly recommend a stay here; but be sure to get to know Sven, Fabian and the staff - they are pretty special.

Malapascua must have been a gem a few weeks ago. Today, 6 weeks after typhoon Yolanda/Hayian hit the Island there is not much left. Virtually all palm trees are gone, most resorts on the beach and houses in the villages are severely damaged and unfortunately there is not much sign of repairs being carried out. Obviously because of the costs involved of removing the garbage and getting new materials to the island.

Our first night we stayed at Slam resort, not much left beside our three rooms. The second night we moved to Ocean Vida which had just re opened. Ocean Vida is a lovely resort. In my humble opinion by far the best on the island. Staff are courteous, the food is really good (although Angelina's remains the number one choice), the rooms are spacious and well equipped and the atmosphere is great. The Swiss owners must have worked very hard to get the the resort back into business on time for Christmas and they did a great job.
Highly recommended!

My friend and I stayed in Ocean Vida for a couple of nights for our first time in Malapascua just a few weeks directly after the typhoon hit hard. While the entire island had no power and those on generators had staggered hours power, the owners and management made sure to restore 24/7 power via generators ASAP. Even over the two days we stayed there, they were adding yet another generator to ensure they could meet the capacity due to demand.

The owners and manager were on-site from daybreak until 11pm+ everyday, ensuring every guest was well taken care of and made sure they could provide A/C in the rooms. We arrived the day they were able to get their restaurant partially operational. Even though their original restaurant was still being rebuilt, the temporary restaurant was nice and the menu selection was great. They even continued their daily breakfast that is included with the room. Every time they saw us, the owners and management would make it a point to make sure our stay was great. If there was a single problem, it would be resolved immediately. I HIGHLY recommend this hotel in Malapascua.

Room Tip: If you are traveling as two people wanting two separate beds, please inquire with the hotel first. S...

We visited Manapascula about 4 weeks after the typhoon hit the island hard. And it was only because we met someone who's been there 10 days before us, that we actually went there.

Something we couldn't have imagined was the progress that has obviously been achieved by the inhabitants. Most hotels are about to reopen for Christmas. Especially at the OV you feel the ambition to get back to "business as usual". Most rooms are back to their usual high standard, the plants and flowers are beeing replanted, the restaurant has the full variety of foods and the daily happy hour attracts you to spend the evening in the sandsacks on the beach.

Of course there is still much work going on, in order to get back to where they were before, like the finishing up of roof of the staff building. Therefore the chances are high you might wake to the sound of hammering at eight but only to enjoy a nice breakfast buffette or an early swim in the ocean.

At the time of our stay this was the only resort we know of having 24h electricity. But others are certainly to follow.

One thing, that also needs to be mentioned is the effort, Sven, his wife, managers and employees put into building a 40 houses village for inhabitants that lost their houses. Funded by donations. And the 3000 palmtrees they ordered to plant across the island.

Staying at Ocean Vida in these times is certainly not vacation as usual. But the hospitality of everybody and the family atmosphere has made it one of our best times in the Philippines so far.

I went to Malapascua on a quick getaway to go thresher shark diving. Ocean Vida was a great place to stay at. The staff is so friendly and attentive. When I arrived late, the manager was there to greet me. By the next day all the staff knew me, and always called me by name. The food and drinks were great. Everything was reasonably priced despite being a resort. At night, this resort is the heart of where people go to hang out. People playing guitar, and singing.
