“Best place Ever!”
Reviewed May 17, 2011

The place is amazing, clean rooms, giant Cottage, few steps from the Beach , Romantic and quite spot. If you are looking for Relaxation this is the right place. The price is pretty fair for what you get, the Breakfast is good ,compare with the Hotels Around. The Staff and Mike are super friendly.

Make sure to arrange your pick up from the port, just to make your life easier ;)

We stayed at Mike & Diose's Beach Cottage - AABANA for almost 10 days in April. We hadn't planned much and we hadn't been on the Philippines before, so we did not really know what to expect. I found the Island of Malapascua via google-earth, then checked out accomodations via google and stumbled over Mike's - the owner and manager - homepage of the island. Mike sent us all the information we could possible need to easily find our way to the resort from Cebu City and was a reliable and quick correspondent throughout the booking negotiations in the beginning. We had reserved the place in January already and the reservation was kept all the time.
Mike's AABANA resort offered two kind of accomodations that are - funnily enough - quite complementary: a little cottage with basic facilities for unbeatable 550 P. (probably the cheapest one on the island and quite famous amongst backpackers) and two bigger ones - comparable to little houses - with remarkable interior, maisonette-style inside extra room, Led-lighting, terasse, kitchen (just to name the extras) for 1800 P. which was at the upper end of what we wanted to spend, but when we saw the remarkable place, the price seemed more than fair. The team serves breakfast, enough for a perfect start and cleans the place twice a week. There is snorkeling equipment, a Kayak and probably more stuff we didn't find out about for free for the Guests, Mike also occupies a certified boat captain that takes you wherever you wish to go for reasonable prices. Add all this to the overwhealming beauty of the island, and you have the perfect holiday!! To sum up, everything was just the way it should have been. It was even better and a very "special" time, due to two factors:
First, Mike is a wonderful guy, who is extremely helpful and friendly. He knows a lot about the island and about the life on it and manages to have a great team around him, that makes the stay really pleasant.
Secondly, the little details: There are plenty of little things, that are neither really necessary nor would one expect them, nevertheless they are helpful, thoughful or just nice and show, that the owners love what they are doing:
- there is a frigde full of beer, coke and water when you get there for net cost prices that is regularly filled (by counting the bottles of course;-))
- there are plenty of hamacks, deck chairs and a little "beach-roof-thing" on the beach.
- there are fresh towels
- there is a water-hose in front of the house so you never really have a sand-problem inside, brushes are there, too.
- the garden is wonderful
- the houses are really well built, maintained and mounted in a very sturdy and stabile way, compared to most buildings I saw during our trip. Interiour is great too.
- the team buys and brings fruit for net cost prices (mango, papaya, bananas...)
- there is a diver that brings fresh shells or even sea-urchins
- there is WiFi-internet if you need it.
- there is dinner or lunch served for fair prices if requested.
- the Resort is extremely calm at night and even - compared to the beaches further down- during the day, as it lies at the very and of the esplanade. We left our stuff on the deck chairs and went snorkeling for hours, no problem at all.
If you come to Malapascua, its a perfect place to stay. Actually, its worth coming to Malapascua because of Mike's cottage ;-) Make sure you book timely enough.

We stayed here for 7 weeks with our 3 children (age 4,5,12) .This place is increadeble and so is Mike and all of his staff. We all loved the familiar atmosphere. They helped us with everything, shopping, getting more cash, going to Cebu for a rugby game, making kites and fishing rods for the kids plus a SUPERB birthday dinner!!
The house that we stayed in was exellent, 2 bedrooms and a nice CR plus a big terrace. Where we had a lot of nice breakfasts, when we couldn´t have them on the beach!
The food that Charito made for us was great.
We will always remember this gem and hopefully get back here someday.

Quiet, private and a staff that make you feel right t home, all led by the one and only Mike. The cottages are unbelievable value, and the family atmosphere inculcated by Mike is second to none.

Had to be one of the best holidays I have had in a long time.

I spent almost 2 weeks scuba diving in Malapascua with a friend and we stayed in Mike & Diose's Beach Cottage. The rooms were really close to the beach but it was quiet and you had your own privacy. The room we stayed in was really basic but that was what we were looking for and it was really cheap. The owner Mike was really friendly and nice guy and he helped us a lot in everything we needed. The value of this place was excellent and I would recommend this to everyone who is looking for affordable place to stay in Malapascua.

Ours was a very spontaneous trip to celebrate my loved one's birthday in the most relaxing way possible, away from the hustle and bustle of Manila. And we got exactly (and more) what we came for. We were able to get a very affordable yet very comfy and peaceful accommodation (breakfast included) at Mike and Diose's little cottage --- a double bed fan room that couldn't be any sweeter. We stayed for three days and two nights during a weekend. The location of the resort was perfect --- private, quiet and romantic, making it a little piece of heaven at the tip of Malapascua. The owner, Mike, was very friendly and hospitable (so were his staff and his very cute dogs!). He made sure that our stay was one that we'd never forget... or one that we'd come back for. We snorkeled and toured around the island on his boat. He prepared dinner for all his guests during our last night. And it was sumptuous.

There was no other resort we'd rather be in than in Mike and Diose's. And no other resort we'd be in when we come back next time. :)

We stayed there overnight and were happy that we were the only ones there. The resort had cottages near the beach and most of our meals were spent there. The cottage is HUGE, man. One queen bed on the first floor and there is a TINY flight of stairs to the attic. The attic is something else - two airbeds and two single beds. If you travel with family and a huge group, the room is just right. There is only ONE A/C though and it doesn't really get to turn the entire house cold. There are fans that will help circulate the air.

I kind of like it if we camp out near the beach and sleep there. Its colder! I heard you can have someone cook for you but we were only served breakfast once (not part of the room charges).

Try going around the beach strip - there are several restaurants that you can have dinner/lunch at. Most are expensive from 200-500 peso meals but hey, aren't you in vacation? :)

What I don't like about the resort are the ducks/geese running around the place. I hate birds and chicken and ducks and everything that resemble that species so I dont really welcome that sight.

Oh, the bathroom really has cool blue lights! Huge, too. Our cottage has a kitchenette and a huge ref so yes, you can store food and cook there, too.

Watersports are readily available at the resort.
