Our trip to Malapascua and staying/diving with Evolution was definitely one of the BEST trips I have had in SE Asia. The Dive shop is very professional and everyone was so friendly and accomodating. David (the owner)was helpful with the trip logistics via email and our whole trip was set up within a day or so ( courses, room and board, transportation, island info). Their service is incredible and they definitely cater to the every need of their guests/divers. The location is right on a nice area of beach in a prime location that is not too touristy. Dannie and Kelly were great experienced instructors for our OW and AOW and I would highly recommend them to anyone. The Craic House is a great hangout with delicious food and drinks. The staff is friendly and the area fosters an environment for getting to know other divers. We stayed in the Garden Fan Rooms which were perfect for our trip. They are very clean, comfortable, and only a few steps away from the beach/everything you need! Overall, I want to reiterate that the Evolution experience is definitely way to go. We miss Malapascua a lot and definitely attribute our amazing vaction to Evolution. Thank you!!

Our 1st time to Malapascua during the Chinese New Year holiday, a little confused about transport/accommodation. Evolution came highly recommend by my DM; it was well run and all the logistics were taken care of. Quick response to our emails and solved all our questions. DMs were all very knowledgeable and fun to be with. Safety is extremely important here and our DMs really look after everyone. I took my Nitrox class here while my friend took her AOW. Spent 3 mornings to see the famous Thresher Shark and I wasn't disappointed on my 1st day. Up close and extremely clear but can't say the same for the other 2 days.

Very good night dive here with tons to see and DM made the night Nitrox course fun (despite we were all very exhausted). Excellent mango shake at their restaurant but service was slow, so order your food ahead of time. Room was simple, yet comfortable. We have booked a air-con room but no TV in there. You really don't need that on the island.

Excellent sunset views. Highly recommend to stay and dive here. Equipment were all well-maintenced and good service from everyone. We only stayed there for a few days but we were known by our names already, a personal touch! (PS: the Thresher Shark dive starts early in the morning like 5:10am which nothing is open. If you want to eat something before your dive.

Myself (Instructor) and 3 others (Newly qualified divemasters) booked 5 nights, 4 days diving with Evolution in June 2013 and in summary, it was excellent.

We arranged a direct transfer from Cebu airport to the jetty at Maya along with a boat transfer to the island. This all went perfectly smoothly with no issues at all.

The dive centre itself consists of a large outdoor area with rinse tanks rooms on the one side and the offices, classrooms and equipment rooms on the other. The bar sits in the corner of that.
There is a lot of open space and certainly doesn't feel crowded.

Outside the reception area is the diving activities board along with guide names, people, which boats, gas requested and so on along with the potential schedule for the next day.

Upon arrival we were given a briefing about the centre, the boats, environmental awareness such as what you can and can't do diving and so on. Very few centres do this properly so this was a good touch to remind people about sensible diving practices. The standard paperwork was then completed. We were then made fully aware of how the centre itself worked, how to request trips, where to be and when prior to dives and so on. All very slick.

I had all my own equipment, the others in the group all needed rental. The rental equipment was in good condition and well maintained.

The diving itself was very well organised and Gino the local guide was excellent throughout. We ultimately ended up with him for the majority of our dives in our own private group. Although it as low season when other groups were on the boat or dive site efforts were made to keep them apart underwater so as not to cause disruption. At no point were we herded, nannied or directed on dives. The guide did exactly as a good guide should - swam around, had excellent eyes for spotting things, allowed us to follow in our own time (and im slow - i have a camera) and never dictated anything to us. Anything we asked to be able to see he managed to find which is a testimony to how good the diving is around that area. We were given a lot of freedom on the dives which was nice compared to some overly assertive guides or group herding.

The boats themselves were fast and efficient in shuttling the divers to the dive sites (which are all close by). After the early morning Thresher Shark dives and night dives coffee was provided onboard.

Our equipment was carried between the boats, set up, washed and looked after for the entire stay without us having to do anything at all

In total we did between 10 and 12 dives each including a day trip to Gato island (excellent), 3 early morning Thresher Shark dives, 1 regular night dive and 1 mandarin fish night dive.

One thing to note, if you're a photographer and want good quality photos of Thresher Sharks then you're unlikely to get them on Malapascua - the Monad Shoal area has a ban on the use of strobe lights. This combined with relatively deep water (25m) and very early morning means there is very little light so very high ISOs and low shutter speeds substantially limit how good a shot you can get. This is not a dive centre issue though!

The only tiny gripe i could find is the water in the showers in our accommodation was very salty but on a small island i guess its the norm.

The diving in the area is in my view amongst the best anywhere so highly recommended and Evolution as a centre is very well organised and professionally run. I work as a PADI IDC Staff Instructor elsewhere (so have witnessed a lot of good and not so good centres!) and would most certainly recommend Evolution for anyone going to Malapascua.

Evolution is run like a dive shop should be; top quality service, excellent diving and good craic. Having dived around most of South East Asia there are few resorts like this.

From a recreational side of diving they cannot really be faulted; good guides, good boats, good equipment, good group sizes etc etc. Price competition between the resorts on Malapascua is fierce, but it's not really worth saving that odd Peso here and there with Uncle Bob's diving or what not. You might as well pay that little bit extra (if anything at all) and dive with the best knowing that you will be taken care of, not have your cylinders filled off some ropey old compressor and dive with a resort that respects the environment as well as the above.

From a technical side of diving; there are not many dive shops in South East Asia (if any) that can beat what Matt and David have created here. They have an exceptional set up with every bit of equipment you could want to rent for open and closed circuit diving and its all top quality stuff as they use themselves. They can blend any mix you desire and its not an unreasonable price considering your location. I suppose a lot of dive shops can offer this; but what makes Evolutions set up go the extra mile is that Matt has over ten years of experience in this realm and it really shows through the knowledge and expertise that he has poured into creating this.
Once you have dived with Evolution you will be spoilt as you'll realise how many cowboys there are in the tech diving world throughout Asia and the rest of the world.

Aside from all the diving; they also serve up decent food in the Craic house and plenty of cold beers!

When my dive buddies and I arrived in Malapascua, we were a bit overwhelmed by just how many dive shops were! Seriously, when we were there in March 2013, there must have been at least 15 dive outfits! Researching in advance, we knew about Evolution and made sure not to commit before making it to Evolution to take a look.

We arrived to Evolution in the early evening on March 17th...yes..St. Patricks Day! Of course we were all thirsty, so we made our way to the Craic House and started ordering Guiness and Irish Car Bombs to celebrate. Before long we made friends with so many folks there at the bar, many of which were affiliated with Evolution, in one way or the other. Laughing and sharing dive stories, we were having the time of our lives and readily committed to diving and gravitating round Evolution Diving and the Craic House!

We only stayed on Malapascua for four days total, but in that short time we made so many long time friends! Matt the owner, is fantastic! He is such an approachable and easy going guy and obviously a top-notch diver! A different Matt, one of the instructors at the time, was such a genuine dude and he was the perfect teacher for a couple of our friends to complete their Advanced Diving certification with. Kris, the freelance photographer at the time, was full of great stories and his pictures were just incredible! Alex a local divemaster was also very good!

If ever I get back to Malapascua again in the future, I will head directly to Evolution Divers. Professional and fun, Evolution just has a way of attracting the best of it all! Thanks guys!
