We checked in at around 12noon and so far this is the poshest of all!! They want you to feel you are totally away from home and you get the best treatment of your holiday. And they never ran out of anything we ordered from food to drinks to deserts. Fully equipped restaurant and the staff are very friendly. I had the best breakfast of my life here in this resort. It is just so sad to think if they can still restore the place and I doubt when. We hope to go back in Exotic Island Dive Resort.

This resort has nice rooms, good food but all in all a little pricier than the others. I would not have minded if their service and palate can match up with the neighbouring competitors (I had stayed in them for longer periods) but unfortunately not much of a par. Nice rooms though, best of the lot.

Diving experience was ok but my general opinion is there was a bit of a condescension and they need to be more thorough in ensuring the right qualifications goes to the right diver. My dive mate has a stamp on his dive log that has gone down 28m and he's only a PADI Open Water diver. Fact is they didnt ask in advance, took him to the site and plomp him into a depth of 28m. Doesn't do well for a PADI reggistered dive centre.

the receptionist n billing needs more education in their service training.

While I noted people did try to get away without paying their hotel bills, not all are like that so the receptionist girls need to understand that the departure hospitality is very important when checking out because that will bring about an after taste. The pinays need to know their place in the resort and that they are there because of the resort's clients.

Nicely cleaned beach and overall impression is that the resort is logistically well-run. Just work on your PR. It's the human factor that makes the difference.

Room Tip: Choose the bigger three bedders for those who are claustrophobic. If any issues with billing, ask to...

I’ve been here 3 times. All ace star each time.

Great macro variety, the elegance of the thresher sharks, white soft sand, topped off with top class divemasters friends, service and the yummiest food too!

I’ll be coming back – and the little selfish side of me wishes I could keep this place a secret…

Exotic Island Dive & Beach Resort of Malapascua, Philippines is a quiet place to spend a holiday. Staff is friendly. Food is delicious indeed. Comprehensive breakfast is offered. Rooms are very very spacious and tidy. White sand beaches and crystal clear water in the sea. Native people in the area are very friendly. Worth taking a 4hr drive from Cebu.

Malapascua basically is not your typical beach island where you can just relax, enjoy the beach and do nothing. It is more of a diver's island. Malapascua Island Dive and Beach Resort doesn't help much to give you comfort and relaxation you need when you just want to relax on an island and the beach. This resort lacks the facilities that you would expect if you are a typical beach bum. If you would notice all the awesome reviews for this resort, they are all praises for the diving facilities. But the resort facilities do not really level up to a tourist's/traveler's standard. So if you are not a diver, more so if you are planning to go on a vacation with the whole group or family, stay away from this place.. You would just get discover that this place is an over-rated excuse for a beach resort. Here are the reasons why:

a) The rooms are over-priced. The room rates range from 3,100 to 6,000. However, you might as well get the most expensive rooms (beachfront room, nothing else) if you want to enjoy your stay because if you get the other rooms, you will just get a view of the dump at the back of the resort and naked male workers taking a bath in the morning. (check pictures of room view attached in this review). We got the super deluxe rooms during our stay. The beds are so small, only a child can fit. The mattresses are so hard to sleep on. There are no coffee-making facility inside the room. There are no good channels in their cable TV. The rooms have no wifi. You still have to walk a good few meters at the front of the resort before you can get internet connection. If you need room service or even towels, expect to sweat it out first before you get what you need.

2. Food in the restaurant are a little pricey. I have to commend though the multitude of food choices that you can select from the menu. But be prepared for the bill. The serving is rather small, not even enough for one person. Even the ice on your soda, you have to pay if you request for room service.

3. You cannot really enjoy a good swim in front of the resort due to its location. There are a lot of sea grass, so you might as well bring your swimming shoes. We were quite afraid to encounter some unfortunate incidents with sea urchins if we go further. Also, you have to wait for the high tide which usually comes at 11 am, around the time that you would get toasted when swimming until 3 pm. Early morning and late afternoons, water in front of the beach would be up to ankle deep. You can choose to go island hopping instead.

4. The resort does not seem safe at night since it is dimly-lit and has a back entrance that leads to several small stores. You can see people coming in and out at the back entrance. We tried to buy some stuff from the store around 7:30 pm, we didn't notice any guards keeping watch.

Based on our experience, if you are not really a diver, you're better off staying in Bantayan Island where there are numerous choices of resorts where you can just relax and enjoy your vacation. Given the long drive going to this island, the effort and time going here is not really worth your stay.

The key to a great holiday is not just the facilities or location... service is of huge importance too. Malapascua Exotic Island Dive Resort did not disappoint us - their staff was wonderful - friendly, courteous, helpful.. we came across a few gems among them, namely Maridol, Zion and Gremil.

Room rates - it was low season and we were lucky to get half price discount. A few other resorts refused to budge from their rack rates even though it was low season. Lucky for us, otherwise we would not have been able to experience Exotic.

Food was very good. We tried a few other restaurants but nothing compared to Exotic. We found the asian specialties especially good. Their buffet breakfast was also a nice spread; loved the freshly baked croissants!

Massage - yes, you do pay less for the massages offered by some women on the beach but what you pay, is what you get. So do try Exotic's massage services at least once - I tried the combination shiatsu & aromatherapy - absolutely wonderful! One of the best I've had, compared to what I've experienced during my holidays in the SEA region.

We got the super deluxe for two pax (cheaper than the beach front cottages). Bright, airy and spacious... cable tv, hot & cold shower, two queen size beds. What more could anyone ask for ... aside from longer vacation time, of course :)

The dive resort was definitely one of the best on the island. Though the rooms were fairly basic, this was compensated by the excellent service and amazing food served at the restaurant. We were surprised some Singaporean dishes were actually executed really authentically. On my way out of the island, I dropped my wallet in the van, and the staff were quick to respond when I called for help and they managed to trace the driver and returned it back to me. Really appreciated that!

I was there to do my Advanced Open Water course and was impressed by the professional set-up of the dive shop and was thankful that everything was taken care of by the crew, who at the same time were also very mindful of the safety of the divers. While we did have our thresher shark encounters, I thought that the variety of marine life there was very much lacking, as there were very few large pelagics, and some of the sites were dynamited!

Do take a boat trip out to Calanggaman island. It's definitely one of the most beautiful islands out there!

Room Tip: Get rooms near the restaurant for wi-fi connection though it may be a little inconsistent.
