“Idyllic Location”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 23, 2011

We stayed at this park for one night because we wanted to go on the guided night kiwi walk, but we really wished we'd booked for longer. The park is in the most idyllic location, surrounded by woodland, with a small river/stream running through it, including a couple of swimming holes. It was incredibly peaceful and beautiful, both to the eyes and the ears, with the almost constant sound of birdsong.

The unit was clean and comfortable, and the shared kitchen facilities good. There's a great playground for the kids and probably the most scenic flying fox ever!

We went on the night kiwi walk which was excellent fun and lead by a really friendly and informative guide. Unfortunately we didn't spot (or even hear) a kiwi, but it was great to walk through the forest at night and see weta, glow-worms and a possum. We'd definitely go back, go on the walk again and stay longer this time to chill out properly!

With the intention to visit the Kauri Forest and hope to spot a kiwi in the wild, we stayed one night at this holiday park in an en-suite studio unit with kitchen facility. The unit we had was spotlessly clean and tidy and the bed was very comfortable. The park is well landscaped with plants, it is surrounded by bushes and a river near the camp site. The host, Heather and others were friendly and nice. As the park is located away from the town, you would have to buy raw food ingredients from Dargaville which is about 30 - 45mins away.

About the guided night walk arranged and conducted by the park personnel, the guide was very informative and we're glad we did it as it was a good experience walking in the forest at night, though no kiwi was spotted.
