Erbil International Hotel
Ranked #49 of 67 Hotels in Erbil
Reviewed March 31, 2010

I've ended up staying here about half a dozen times over the last year. Each time I hoped it would get better, but alas it was the same everytime.

It is one of the nicer hotels in the region. The rooms are reasonably well appointed with a good level of cleanliness. They have good facilities (pool, gym, turkish bath, etc) and the hotel restaurants have reasonable variety. Note the aircon only works in summer though!

The main things that let it down are price and service. It is expensive, both for rooms and for everything else. Remember it is the Middle East though so negotiation is possible. With an extended stay (and threats to go somewhere else) we got them to knock $100 off the rate, which made the price only moderately outrageous.

However service here is underwhelming but unfortunately typical of all the places I've stayed in Kurdistan. It has the semblance of good service (lots of staff, managers, etc) but it's really all for show. The staff aren't particularly attentive and seem to almost get annoyed when you ask for something. The exception to this is the top floor restaurant which again is expensive but has the best service I've seen in Iraq.

The hotel now accepts credit card payment (Mastercard only) which is pretty unique for the region. There is also an ATM in the lobby if you want Iraqi dinars. Otherwise it is cash only, which to be fair, is the standard in this part of the world.

One recommendation would be to try the Masgouf (grilled fish) in the restaurant outside. It's a fairly popular venue, often with live music. It (and a venue beside the hotel) are often used for weddings on a weekend (Fri/Sat) so be prepared for the occasional party noise and Xena-like cries into the night.

Its very very expensive, servise is not according to the price, always you getting wrong ammount (more as supppose to be always) to pay, food is clean but they (mostly servants) do not leave you alone to have your meal or drink, its secure because thecity is secure, peacefull you can walk to anywhere unescorted, Id stay in normal hotels next time, as its ten times cheaper within little difference.

No credit card, only cash is the first problmen of this hotel. Restaurant is very expensive and service is not so good as we can expect. Keep always an eye on your plate, otherwise it will vanish in the air by miracle.
Rooms are so common as every international hotel, with no soul, but very comfortable.
You have to pay for everything and it is very expensive. For check out verify the bill : it is always wrong, for me and my colleague too.
Only one shop (very little) and nothing to buy in it.

The Erbil International is a Sheraton. Erbil is the capital city Kurdistan in Iraq and a relatively safe city considering.
Hotel rooms and service were very good and the business center excellent.
Hotel staff is world class.
Pay CASH ONLY. They have no credit card capability.
Hotel security at present is extensive as you might guess.
If you are going to the ends of the earth, this is where you stay.
