First, the good things. The bedrooms are large, they're comfortable, they're clean, the a/c works, the hot water really is hot and the showers are nice and powerful. That's actually quite a lot for Iraq.

However, the staff aren't trained (they're not rude, as some people seem to think; they just haven't been trained in what to do); the buffet food is average at best and breakfast doesn't really reach even that level; the grill outside is a bit better but largely because it's nice to sit there at night when temperatures have fallen a bit. So, no real problem--but I'll be back in Erbil in November and this time I'll stay at the Rotana.

The hotel is average, rooms are in a good shape, clean, beds are not too comfy, food is bad, service is good in matter of coffee and tea. It needs to be up graded very soon. I had to stay here for two nights as other decent hotels were fully booked, they have a nice fish restaurant in the garden, but you should reserve your fish ahead of time, as they may run out of. The close the restaurant service at 11 PM so u enjoy the nice evening weather without any drink. Will not stay here again unless I really have too, though it is very clean

Other reviewers have been a little harsh on this hotel. It was my second visit. Rooms are clean and reasonably sized. The buffet for breakfast, dinner and lunch isn't the best I've ever encountered, but isn't at all bad either. Pool and fitness centre are fine, and there is a pleasant garden and tennis courts. Erbil is an expensive city, and this hotel isn't cheap, though more modern hotels are considerably more expensive. Some staff can be a bit surly, but others are fine. Location is good - 20 minute walk to citadel, and security seems good. I would rate this "good" if Tripadvisor had a category between "average" and "very good"

The Hotel is over-expensive, guests are getting ripped off for the smallest amenities; staff at breakfast buffet is totally unprofessional and unfriendly; staff at reception shows a distinctive lack for professionalism and particular ignorance towards regular guest affairs;
the management staff - including the front desk personnel - is rude, and generally unfriendly. My overall rating: most terrible place ever been too - I strongly advise: NEVER, I mean NEVER (!!!) go there - pkease share this with all your coll., friends and partners in business.

When you look at the website you can see a fabulous swimming pool and lovely outdoor area. The reality is somewhat different. The pool has been empty for some time and looks almost derelict. The room I stayed in was very shabby and still retains much of its 1980's charm. The restaurants are poor with service to match and the food is unimaginative and to a great extent tasteless and bland. The grill restaurant is slightly better and the wine becomes drinkable after you have left it in the glass for an hour or so. I was lucky enough to experience the conference facilities, well actually a converted bar on the 9th floor. The smell of damp carpets and dirty toilets was overwhelming. This hotel thinks its a 5star hotel. It used to be. It's not now. It needs to make a huge effort to improve especially with the new 5 star Rotana and Divan hotels opening recently just down the street. The whole complex gives the impression that everybody has either given up or just don't care anymore.
