“New resort opened in Feb 2014”
Reviewed May 2, 2014

Not much to complain about here. Jade restaurant is amazing. Haab on the other hand was disappointing as it took over 45 minutes to get our main meal and didn't even order desert. Service was horrible. Had to ask for our coffee 3x and silverware and refills. There is a butler outside the rooms which is nice to help you with any questions or concerns you may have. Allen and Ruth are the best! Small bugs in the rooms.. Rooms are beautiful.. we had a swim up room with the swim up bar right outside our patio. The views are great. We were supposed to stay at El Dorado Royale but wanted to upgrade our room as they didn't have any swim ups available there they moved us over to Generations and gave us $500 resort credit which was nice. We ended up using that at the Naay Spa on 80 minute deep tissue massages. Also got free Wifi along with the credit. Loved being able to go and eat and do different things thruout all 3 resorts that are connected. Very handy having a shuttle to be able to take you to and from different areas in the resort and the staff are all very helpful! This is a must go and I will return here!

Room Tip: We had a swim up room which was convenient to swim to the bar grab a drink and head down to the beac...

This resort pays attention to everything and everyone! The rooms are beautiful and all have amazing views of both the ocean and pool. The beds are so comfortable! The whole staff from the groundskeepers to house keepers, butlers and entertainment staff are amazing! Luiz and Kenney (Entertainment) Carlos and Angel (Wait staff) Urina and all of the butlers! The food was very good and plenty of it. The ability to eat at other properties Casitas and El Dorado was great. I loved all of the fresh fruit! The property has its own environment friendly greenhouse. The beach has beautiful soft ground coral Bermuda type sand. The property is building a reef for sea life to thrive. We also went scuba diving and one member received his PADI certification with El Torro who is the best teacher! We can not wait to return!

Room Tip: Some rooms have their own pool that overlook main level pool!

Due to the soft opening of this resort we actually asked to be moved from El Dorado Royale to Generations! We spent our second week here.
The room was amazing, and i like the way they show you around first to see if you like it. All rooms are faced toward the sea and it is spectacular. I like the fact that the swim up had its own sliding glass door which leads to the swim up area of the pool (this felt safer and more private).
A butler is stationed outside each block of rooms which is extremely handy and very nice when you go out/come in as you get a chance to chat.
The restaurants are lovely - especially Jade (Pan-Asian). Sushi and rice was beautiful. Breakfast in the ground floor restaurant is set out wonderfully and you get to see the view of that beach every morning!!
The beach itself had so many different species of fish - you don't even have to go that far to see them! I like the way they preserve the wildlife as much as they can.
Of course, at the moment it is a bit of a building site which is fine as they have a lot of work to do and it didn't really bother us too much. The mangroves are going to be awesome once they are done :)

There were a lot of tiny bugs everywhere, including the room! The pool bar did not have a great choice of drinks like the other sister resorts - probably due to the fact that it is not an adults-only resort. We appreciated the complimentary $500 to spend in the resort (because we originally paid for an adults-only).
We will be back as soon as they have finished building!

Room Tip: Higher floors have better views and beautiful individual pools on the balcony!

This was our first time going to Mexico and we loved it. We enjoyed our whole experience from the minute we checked in. The rooms were great and the view was spectacular. The beach was a little rocky and the pool was a little chilly in the mornings but the service more than made up for that. The staff members were nice and very enthusiastic about their jobs, especially Luiz whom really made our stay amazing. My only complaint is about the limited food options but for those traveling without kids its not an issue since next-door El Dorado has more than enough options to choose from. I hope to return to this love resort again soon.

We just returned from a 5 night stay at Generations. This was a special trip, as we were celebrating my mom's 65th birthday and they live across the country from their only 2 grand kids- so we wanted to make sure to select the best place possible to meet and enjoy time together. This was our second time in Cancun, last year we stayed at Paradissus Esmeralda- which we really loved, so I was also worried about Generations living up to that experience as well...After countless hours on tripadvisor, we thought we would try Karisma and liked the all suite/butler concept of this property. We turned to Mitch at TripGuy.com to help us book the trip, he was great and also set up our private transfer through Lomas which was extremely professional and reliable.

We LOVED this resort and felt very well taken care of. The setting was much less commercialized and extremely beautiful and peaceful. From the unique drive from the lobby, to the coconuts hanging from the palm trees and the gorgeous ocean views from everywhere- this is a truly tropical setting. This coupled with the brand new and spacious rooms and modern amenities make for a wonderful and comfortable vacation. The days beds on the beach were heaven on earth, especially while beach butlers like the wonderful Maria bring over margaritas made with fresh fruit...While people have commented on the beach, we loved it- we could watch our kids safely swim in the calm shallow water. Our boys were obsessed with finding rare shells with their goggles in the ocean as this is a more uninhabited stretch of new beach. There are also kayaking and snorkel tours throughout the week on the calm waters.

While there were some insignificant gaps in the service (mostly room service)- the staff are extremely kind and hospitable. After a minor situation with my mom- the general manager Alejandro Lopez was amazing and made sure to check on us daily. Our butler Howard was one of the most professional and genuinely sincere people we have ever met in the hospitality business. The food was definitely gourmet and very high quality (note the entrees are very small- so think or ordering like tapas) but to me this was a much healthier way to eat on vacation. We did the buffet for breakfast and loved the omelette bar, extensive fresh fruit and juices. There was smoked salmon and the yummiest breakfast potatoes the first day, but then were missing on other mornings- so that would be my only request, that they be permanent staples. The restaurants were very pretty and kid friendly- but I also do think that the service could be a little faster in order to accommodate families with young children. We also enjoyed the grill for lunch, but there needs to be more umbrellas to shade the tables- but delicious and convenient!

This was the first time my kids (age 5 & 7) begged to go to kids club nightly!! The ladies running the club there are wonderful, as is Luiz who does a lot of the evening shows. During the day there were lots of organized options such as beach soccer and pool games. At night there were pinata nights, movies and bingo. After our first night, we conveniently took the kids for a quick meal or room services and enjoyed the STUNNING adults only property next door and its restaurants. Our favorite was Davinios and JoJo's- not huge fans of Santa Fe. Don't forget to sit in one of the swing bars with the sunset and a drink and then a walk home to the full moon- perfect. The only issue is that the kids club would only reopen from 7:30-9, which forced one of the adults to run back and get the kids from the club as the dinners on the adults side were definitely a slower pace. Staying open until 9:30/10 would make a big difference- but hard to complain, when your kids tell you to go to dinner with the adults b/c they want to hang out with their new pals!

We also took our older son on a snorkel catamaran tour to Maroma beach through the Adventure Company on site. It was easy and only a 15 minute drive, but definitely worthwhile to see the beautiful reef full of fish. Our guide was great and took us to two parts of the reef where he took the group out in the water. My son loved it and even got to feed the fish and touch a starfish- definitely a highlight! In terms of activities at the hotel, there was also always something going on- like morning yoga and cooking classes by the pool. But the best part was the pool and the beach, it was hard to tear yourself away. I do think maybe adding some basketball hoops to the pool and possibly a water slide would be fun for the kids. Possibly shading the ping ping table and adding a huge chess board like on the adult side would also be great.

Overall, I left with an extremely high opinion of this resort and its staff. The layout is wonderful for families- everything is compact enough that you can let your kids just come back and find you on the beach! This is definitely a luxury property and it will continue to only improve with time as the grand opening has not even occurred, but the word is already out... There are minor things here and there, but Generations is definitely setting the bar high and living up to its promise of catering to both adults and children for a wonderful experience. Bravo to Alejandro and his staff!! Thank you!

Room Tip: We were in room 18361- a swim out on the third floor. This was perfect as it was partially open and...

What an amazing resort. This is going to be a long review for the fact that I stalked trip advisor for reviews as we were embarking on going to Generations Riviera Maya. We have been to Secrets Capri, Le Blanc, El Dorado Seaside Suites, El Dorado Casitas, Azul Beach numerous times, and now Generations. We are also Presidential Members of Karisma and were very excited to try something new.

Check in:
This was by far one of the smoothest check in's we have ever had. We are traveling with a 17 month old and a 3 year old, ourselves and our 70 year old parents. After a morning of early travel the least we wanted was a awful check in. You drive down a path and then enter the main lobby. You are immediately given fresh towels, champagne, chocolate milk and cookies for the kids and mango drinks for anyone who wants one. The check in process took maybe 30 minutes at the most. If you do the pre-check in on generations website, they actually look at it and everything we asked for was in the room prior to arrival. We were then taken by golf cart to the main resort. Our butler Alan met us immediately in the butler's lounge and took us to our room.

Rooms:
We booked a 1 bedroom infinity suite and our parents booked the luxury infinity suite. I had asked previously for our rooms to be close in vicinity and they did it right. We were one room apart. Both rooms are by far the best we have ever stayed in. The one bedroom suite was more than we expected. Two bathrooms, outdoor shower with the best pressure in the world, jacuzzi that my kids bathed in every night that looks to the ocean, and even the pull out bed in the couch was great for my older daughter. The infinity pool was good, but I have to agree with over reviewers that it was odd that it got no sun. We would have to go back to the room for naps and if only I could have laid out on that balcony in some sun or swam in a semi warm pool I would have enjoyed that room category so much more.We did see the 3rd floor of infinity pool rooms do have partial sun, so if this is something that you would ever think about, request the 3rd floor. If we booked again, we would definitely book the swim out's or the 3rd floor infinities. The floors are very slippery if there is any moisture on them. Many people that are capable of walking will be fine, however young children and even our parents fell on numerous occasions. This would really not bother anyone however though who doesn't have little children. The bed was super comfortable. The views are amazing. We did not go past the first floor and look at views at a higher level, but I imagine they were just as good as ours. We were in rooms 18111 and 18131.

Room Service:
This was amazing compared to other resorts we have been too. We would leave our room and it would be cleaned every day before nap time. Every night we had turn down service. Every phone call to room service was attended to promptly and we ordered room service once and it was hot and delicious. Due to small children and napping in our room, we would call room service for drinks and they were so gracious to be very quiet when entering our room.

Pool:
The pool was fabulous. It is salt water instead of chlorine so that was a nice surprise. The kids pool was great for the little ones. You never have to worry about finding a lounge chair if you get up before 10 or 11.

Beach:
If you are an ocean swimmer or a major beach person this beach needs some work. I had no problem with the beach as for me it is nice to hang out on part of the day, but I am not a ocean swimmer. I liked seeing the coral in the ocean and the sand bags. They are putting in these pyramid cement blocks to eventually replace the sand bags and help try to rebuild the destroyed reef from the hurricane awhile ago. At this point, they are a bit of an eye sore, however they will eventually settle into the ocean and not be visible (from what I am told). The sand is deep, however I thought of it as a good workout. The water is crystal clear and it was nice to see a bit of a rough ocean. The view toward casitas is amazing. You can get any beach bed you want before 8 am. There are plenty of chairs on the beach.

Kids Club:
Our kids could only play in the kids club but could not be dropped off yet. It is great. Both of my kids found plenty to do in there. The most busy time was round 7:30 when everyone seemed to go right after dinner.

Service:
I remember reading many reviews and everyone saying the service was impeccable. Well everyone is correct. The best service I have ever had was at Le Blanc and this resort is almost there. Everyone is always asking if you need anything and so much more. Pool drink service is amazing and so was the beach service. The Butlers make a big difference in this resort. Breakfast servers were amazing. They were always trying to make my kids and myself happy.

Food:
Food was fabulous. We ate at Habb two nights, the Wine Kitchen and Jade. Jade was our favorite. We ate at Chef Market for breakfast every morning. I do have to say that a nice touch to other Karisma properties is a menu that you can also order off at a Buffet. For lunch we ate at Chef Market and the Pool Grill. The pool grill was so easy for us to eat at and it was outdoors. The burgers were amazing. The bar had snacks daily that the kids or we could eat. Traveling with little ones was difficult, so one suggestion would be to take the kids order first so they can have their food and be satisfied and also make sure you have high chairs in the restaurants prior to dinner service so they are readily available. We also went to the Italian restaurant at the Castias and that was amazing.

Drinks:
Drinks were high quality. One suggestion would be to upgrade the quality of the inclusive house wines offered to go along with the quality of the rest of Karisma' s operation.

Overall, great trip and we will be back sooner than later.
