Another great vacation coming to an end...even better the 2nd time around!! Wonderful attentive service by our butlers, the wait staff...everyone we came in to contact with! Love the nightly chocolates...the afternoon cheese trays...painting by the pool and ping pong table! Best food around! This time we brought another couple with us...it was great to have friends to hang out and dine with. Went to Maroma to snorkel, Bonanza to ride horses...perfect massages at Naay Spa...nothing bad at all to say. Can't wait to come back!

Room Tip: Can't go wrong with Presidential Suites & Butler Service!

We just returned from our second stay at the Casitas and were a bit disappointed comparing to our amazing trip here last October.

One thing to note is that my spouse and I traveled (both trips) with my recently widowed mother (65 years old) who uses a cane and can't walk far nor stand long. If this trip was just with my spouse (both in our 40s), I don't think we would have been impacted as much by the reduction in service.

1) The shuttle service that is used throughout this huge resort had many less carts operating. We'd often end up waiting 20-30 minutes at a designated stop (some no longer have benches) and even when we'd call for service (due to Mom's challenges), we were told to stand outside our room and then still waited long periods. Last year, they'd send a cart right to the door so that Mom could stay seated in the room. This was very frustrating for us all and on several occasions Mom opted to stay in the room instead of going to a restaurant.
2) The beach butler service was non-existent this year. Only once did I see our pool bartender go to the beach with drinks and this was due to the guest tipping him $20 per round. Also the music that was played at the pool bar was rather loud and we had to keep asking him to turn it down. This limited our ability to enjoy our casita's patios and deck beds as the loud disco or rap beat wouldn't allow you to relax. Several of the guests in our section agreed and complained about this. Other casita sections seemed more mellow with music but it defeated the purpose of our swim up rooms to go elsewhere.
3) Maintenance in the rooms seemed more lacking. Several rungs on the patio were missing or extremely loose, and the deck was very uneven. One board was raised about 2 inches higher than the other, which we frequently tripped on. Our patio light was out the entire time even though we reported this. Room service trays would remain outside for days. When we arrived at the resort, there was a tray with dirty dishes and banana peels at the door step. On our third day, I reported this. That afternoon I noticed that the tray/dishes were gone but the rotten banana peels remained until I removed them.
4) While we'd always tip for good restaurant service and give the bartender a dollar or two with each round, tipping was much more expected now.

While most of the employees work extremely hard, I think they are trained to just do their job and don't go beyond. Overall this resort is wonderful (very good food, extremely clean throughout and beautifully landscaped) however I'd likely shop around for our next trip given the decline in service that we just experienced and overall high price for this resort.

Room Tip: Definitely spring for the casitas and not the standard hotel section. Second floor casita rooms hav...

We stayed in a casitas suite with private pool. The room was lovely and very spacious. Large jaccuzi bath beautiful bathroom and an outside shower. The private pool was small but adequate for cooling off. We had a terrace with two sunbeds, table chairs and a double day bed. You could swim from there into the lazy river to a main pool which had a swim up bar. The casitas had the added advantage of a wonderful concierge service. Nothing was too much trouble for them. They booked all our restaurant reservations too. Restaurants were all very good especially the Italian. We had a fabulous holiday. The only downside was that there was lots of Canadians that had booked in the cheaper side of the resort using the swim up bars and got very drunk and noisy. This would have been avoided if they allowed only the guests paying for the casitas or presidential suites to use these pools. Though this was only a minor issue and didnt detract from the enjoyment of our holiday. There was plenty of pools restaurants and bars ....we went out to Cancun a few times which we enjoyed. Overall well worth the travel time . Would go back to a karisma resort again without doubt ... Next time we will go for presidential suite

My husband and I recently stayed in the Casitas Section of El Dorado Royale for our Anniversary and it was Amazing. We stayed in section 3121 in an Infinity Pool Room in the 2nd level and Loved it ! The privacy of having your very own pool right off your balcony was so romantic, and also the lounge bed on our deck was also wonderful. The room was huge. We especially enjoyed the outdoor shower ! as a matter of fact, we never even used the inside shower at all. I can’t say enough about this place! We have been to several “All Inclusives” in the past and this is no comparison. The Gourmet Inclusive is exactly what it states, “Gourmet” . The food was fantastic. We especially liked the Italian Restaurant on the Casitas Side the best! The liquor was all “Top Shelf” brands. Our Bartender “Alex” or as my husband called him “ Jose B” .. (inside joke with Alex) in the Casitas section 3121 was so fun. The staff at the entire resort could not have been more accommodating. And of course, the personal concierges were more than helpful.
Now to mention Beach Bum Vacations. I worked with Joanne and she was so helpful. She was able to get us an upgraded category to the swim up section as well as The Anniversary Package. Which I did not mention, The Anniversary Package we enjoyed a Beautiful Romantic Candlelit dinner for two on the beach, and we upgraded to the Lobster Dinner… Definitely recommend this, the Lobsters were Great !. and with this Anniversary package we also enjoyed a Couples Sky Massage on the Beach !! Totally enjoyed this ! Oh, back to Joanne @ Beach Bums, Definitely call her ! I will be contacting her defiantly for our next trip !

Room Tip: definitley worth paying more and treating yourself and stay in the Casita Section. You wont regret i...

My wife and I stayed at a swim-up casita suite for our honeymoon. The food, service, and amenities were the best we've experienced in Mexico, and one we recommend to anyone visiting the Mexican Caribbean for a special occasion. As an adult only resort, it was very private, and very peaceful. With nearly 10 restaurants to choose from, you never get tired of eating the same thing, and each meal is its own five star experience. The staff makes a great effort to make everything personalized, further adding to your stay. The skylight massage is a very unique experience, as you hear the waves crash beneath you, and was probably the most relaxing spa service we’ve ever received. All in all, every part of this resort is luxurious, and one that everyone can book without hesitation.

A special thanks to Sarah at Beach Bum Vacations for recommending this location, and for helping us plan an unforgettable honeymoon!

Room Tip: The casitas are very private, and very secluded from the rest of the resort. With a very large bed...

My husband and I stayed in the swim-up casitas for our honeymoon this September and it could not have been more perfect. It's called a gourmet inclusive for a reason. The food was amazing! The staff were very friendly, always asking if they could bring us anything. Every morning we made dinner reservations for that evening with our concierge so we didn't have to worry about that and could relax all day by the pool or at the beach beds. Sarah Gladstone with Beach Bum Vacations made this trip a breeze. She provided all of the important information we needed well in advance and checked on us once we arrived at the resort. The amenities were first class in the swim-up casitas. We ordered room service as a snack several times (we ate all of our main meals at the restaurants) and it was very fast and good! Our favorite restaurants were Kampai (Asian fusion) and D'Italia (on the casitas side of the resort). We ate breakfast, lunch and dinner at Kampai and my husband can't stop raving about the curry eggs he had there for breakfast. We can't wait to go back and do it all over again!

Room Tip: Definitely go with the swim-up casitas! From our back door we could walk directly into the pool and...

We've gone to several all-inclusive resorts in Mexico, and decided to splurge on the El Dorado Casitas Royale for our anniversary a couple of years ago, and so glad we did. This place is awesome!

Food: The gourmet all-inclusive concept is excellent - no huge buffets w/food sitting out for long periods of time and wasted. There is one breakfast buffet, but that's it. We LOVE the Italian restaurant the best. The portion sizes for each course are small, and my husband laughed at the size of the appetizer, saying that it would never fill him up. You can order as many items from each course as you want, but we consistently found that ordering one item from each course left even my husband completely satisfied. The food truly is excellent, and although I wouldn't consider us "gourmet" diners, it's great getting the chance to try foods that we never would've ordered before like Carpaccio (thinly sliced raw beef appetizer that was surprisingly good!). The candelight dinner on the beach one night was so beautiful and memorable. Twice when we got our desserts, they had written on our plates a creative 'Happy Anniversary' message in chocolate, which was a delightful surprise!

Rooms: The first time we went we stayed in an individual Casita suite in section 25, which was perfectly located in a central spot between the El Dorado Royale section (3-tier hotel style rooms) and the Casitas Royale section. The room was exactly as described on their website and we loved having breakfast delivered every morning and eating on our front deck. The light gauzy privacy curtains are a nice touch for privacy. We liked the convenience of being able to walk off the front of our deck right to the pool. Each Casita section has its own pool & pool bar, which was great. You can use any pool on the property, but since people staying in the El Dorado Royale aren't allowed to use the Casita pools, there was never a problem with getting a lounge chair by the pool, or needing to reserve one at 6am! The beach is lined with a bunch of oh-so-comfortable palapa beds that are so easy to fall asleep on! After our first visit, we ended up joining as members and the following October when we came back we stayed in the members Casita section #32 on the 2nd floor with its own infinity pool right on the deck. The room was beautiful and being on the 2nd floor gave us a beautiful view of the ocean. However, we found that we preferred staying on the first floor mostly for the easy access from our room right to the pool. Also, the resort property parallels the ocean and is almost a mile long. Member sections #31 & 32 are the last sections on the property and the furthest away from everything (thought that was very odd) so it's quite a hike away from the main sections of the resort. They do have some shuttles that go back/forth along the property, but definitely NOT enough. What they really need to do is designate at least a couple shuttles to constantly go back/forth for the guests. The concierge told us to call if we needed a shuttle which we did one night after the show around 10pm, but was told the shuttles stopped after 9pm which was very disappointing. It wasn't a huge deal but my husband has a bad knee and, staying at the furthest end of the property, we really could've used a shuttle a lot more often. So if you go, depending on where your room is, just be prepared to do a bit of walking, which was good exercise for us anyway.

Resort: The resort is beautiful and clean and the staff is extremely friendly. If you go, definitely sign up for their bike tour which they have every day. My husband begrudgingly went but ended up becoming quite impressed learning about all the enviroment-friendly aspects of the property shown on the tour. There are signs throughout the property stating all the different environmental-friendly methods they use. They also have a beautiful horse and camel ranch where all the animals were obviously well taken cared of. We did the camel ride last year which was a fun, unique experience and they are surprisingly very friendly, lovable animals!

Booze: In addition to the food, this aspect impressed us the most. Having gone to several other all-inclusive resorts, we've experienced the typical "watered down" drinks, but this resort was very different. The liquor here is the REAL stuff!! My husband, who never has gotten even the slightest buzz at ANY all-inclusive, was basically toast after an afternoon at the beach bar & Crown Royal. The bartender Cesar was awesome and just kept filling our drinks as we talked with other guests and didn't even realize how many we had until trying to get off the stool! They serve the good stuff here, which you will definitely find out for yourself.

I hope this review has helped with your decision whether to go or not. My husband and I are looking forward to going back again this October with 2 other couples. This time we requested individual Casita rooms back in Section 25 again, because we liked the central location and being on the ground level. We can't wait!!!

Room Tip: Casitas located in sections 25-27 are the most centrally located on the property.
