What a fantastic way to start our trip to France. Great location for Loire Valley chateaux, friendly service, relaxed atmosphere, and a terrific restaurant. We checked in at lunchtime and the place was packed - and deservedly so. We stayed two nights, ate dinner there both evenings, and were awed by the gastronomic delights. The room was cozy and clean with a lot of open area and pretty gardens for strolling around the grounds. The driveway is gravel, so most rooms require carrying a suitcase as opposed to rolling it.

Room Tip: - South side rooms face the highway, although there is a very large berm to lessen noise. - Second floor rooms on the north require access via an outside stairway which was a bit cumbersome with a heavy suitcase on a rainy day.

Having read the reviews of this hotel we thought the detour from the Tours main highway to be worthwhile.
We were immediately dissapointed to find that all the rooms are in an annexe away from the reception and restaurant in the pretty main building. The deep gravel on the drive meant one had to carry the cases quite a distance to the room. The basic double room had an internal door leading to an adjacent room. This was an issue during the night as we could hear our neighbours chatting and felt a complete lack of privacy. However, the main problem with this hotel is the location.Considering the hotel is in the middle of nowhere, the buildings are sandwiched between a busy highway on one side and a railway line on the other. From the noise we assumed it must be the Tours/Paris express!
Dinner in the restaurant we thought overated and overpriced. There was also an issue with the "free" WiFi in the room that was never satisfactorily resolved and after several trips to Reception in the main building. There is no guest phone in the room and the mobile phone signal was weak or non existant. The "buffet" breakfast was dissapointing unless you are a fan of yoghurts and fruit compotes.

Dear guest
We thank you for taking the time to write a comment about your stay in our Auberge and we were sorry to hear that you did not enjoy it. Guests feed back is always important for us, and we take all comments very seriously. We have done a lot of investement since we have arrived at the Auberge, as our regular guests can see each time they are visiting us. And we continue to do so, therefore guests point of view is important.
However, there are a few points that we wanted to clarify.
Regarding the noise of the train and the road, we are in the process of changing all our windows. It has been done on the road side. We have also renewed with organic material the isolation under the roof. The location of the hotel was already mentionned on comments from previous guests.
Regarding the wifi, it is FREE of charge. We do have a low signal for mobile phones, but we do have telephones in all our rooms (we did actually call your wife in the room to check that the Wifi was fixed after you mentionned that there was a problem).
Regarding the breakfast, we do offer on our buffet ham, cheese, french salami, home made fresh fruits salad, fresh seasanal fruits, home made cake and brioche, home made compote with the fruits from the garden, selection of organic fruit juices, selection of cereals.
Again, we are very sorry that you did not enjoy your stay and that we will not have the pleasure to welcoming you back but we thought it was important to rectify few points that you mentionned.

My wife and I recently moved to Paris, and we've been exploring the various regions in France. We carefully researched the options in the Loire / Cher valleys, and chose to try L'Auberge de Launay. We've very glad we did.

The highlights for us were our dinner and breakfast there and the charm and hospitality of the owners, a husband and wife, one of whom is always present, and their attentive, caring staff. Every course at dinner was consistently excellent for both my wife and me, as were the beverage/wine suggestions. We've all had the unfortunate experience of dining somewhere and loving one course, but finding the other courses mediocre. At L'Auberge de Launay, in contrast, the kitchen's expertise shown through, as each and every course was exquisite in turn. We found we loved every morsel of every dish, an all-too-rare occurrence...and that's why we will return again and again, both on our own for romantic dinners for two as well as with visiting family and friends.

The location is close to the major chateaux, extremely convenient for Amboise, etc., yet outside the towns in a mainly rural setting. The physical setting is not overwhelmingly charming. Certainly, one doesn't imagine oneself in a chateau! But the entire establishment is very, very clean and well-supplied/well-maintained. We chose to spend a bit less cash on rooms this particular night, and instead to spend a bit more on wine and dinner. (And because dinner was mere steps away from our room, we had no concerns about drinking wine then driving). We are thrilled with the choice, as the dinner and breakfast experience were truly superior! Highly recommended for all but those who want to stay in a charming chateau environment. Even if you stay in a chateau, we recommend you try Auberge de Launay for dinner.

Absolutely fantastic place as a home base to explore the Loire Valley. The rooms were ample in size and very clean, but their restaurant is what the locals and tourists alike come here for. Their restaurant was so great that we ended up dining here ever day, breakfast and dinner. With welcoming hospitality from moment of arrival to departure, we enjoyed every moment of our three nights stay. If you stay here, they will always find you a seat at the restaurant. If you are not a hotel guest, it is well worth a visit for dinner, but you must reserve in advance.

We had a wonderful stay at Auberge de Launay. We had a very comfortable, quiet room. The owners were very friendly and very willing to answer any questions we had. We were especially impressed with the restaurant they have on the premises. The dinners were very good and reasonably priced. The environment was very pleasant with white linen table cloths and lots of windows overlooking a quaint yard. In the morning we felt like we were eating in a grand garden room. The hotel location was ideal for visiting the castles in the Loire Valley. We definitely felt it was a great value for our money.

Room Tip: Our room was located upstairs overlooking the garden. It was a quiet room.
