Mar de Jade is a pristine oasis by the ocean, built up a gentle hill side and embracing the natural beauty of tropical Mexico. It offers everything you need to relax and enjoy away from it all. I go to Chacala on a regular basis since my mom bought a house there two years ago. We stayed at Mar de Jade on a recent visit that coincided with Semana Santa (spring break) week, a VERY BUSY AND NOISY TIME. We retreated to Mar de Jade for the week to escape raucous noise of the spring breakers and it was exactly the refuge we needed. I'd definitely go back and stay again!
Incredible fresh meals are prepared and served buffet style three times a day with fresh fruit, fresh juices, great coffee, and a variety of dishes that satisfy vegetarians and non-vegis like me. Salad greens are grown on a small private farm that supplies the hotel. Located at the quite end of the main beach in Chacala, it's easy to walk to town for other fare as well (Choc Mool - yummy!).
There are three pools, two smaller for kids or soaking, plus a larger pool with a 6" deep submerged platform area for relaxing on in the water. There is a small private beach area and plenty of shade and sun to lay in all day long. The spa area at the top of the property is tropical and luxurious with a large hot tub (pool really) in the middle of a beautiful garden.
This place is a true family run establishment and the staff will be happy to assist you in any way they can with arranging tours, information on the area or just great conversation in either Spanish or English. Started by the mother Laura, it was recently turned over to her daughter Angelica who runs it with her family and a wonderful staff. Angelica and her long-time partner got engaged while we were staying there and it was like we were part of the Mar de Jade family as we celebrated over breakfast on the ocean-view patio.
Our room was spacious and had an upstairs with two single beds and downstairs with two double beds and a dining area. Although not considered an ocean front room, we had a beautiful view of the ocean from the dining table and could hear the waves crashing on the beach at night.
I stayed there with my mother and 5-yr old daughter and it was ideal for the three of us. There was also a large group from Habitat for Humanity there (they do a lot of groups, retreats and conventions) and also some couples and other families, mostly American, Mexican and some Canadian.
