“An oasis offering all you need to relax and get away”
Reviewed April 3, 2010

Mar de Jade is a pristine oasis by the ocean, built up a gentle hill side and embracing the natural beauty of tropical Mexico. It offers everything you need to relax and enjoy away from it all. I go to Chacala on a regular basis since my mom bought a house there two years ago. We stayed at Mar de Jade on a recent visit that coincided with Semana Santa (spring break) week, a VERY BUSY AND NOISY TIME. We retreated to Mar de Jade for the week to escape raucous noise of the spring breakers and it was exactly the refuge we needed. I'd definitely go back and stay again!

Incredible fresh meals are prepared and served buffet style three times a day with fresh fruit, fresh juices, great coffee, and a variety of dishes that satisfy vegetarians and non-vegis like me. Salad greens are grown on a small private farm that supplies the hotel. Located at the quite end of the main beach in Chacala, it's easy to walk to town for other fare as well (Choc Mool - yummy!).

There are three pools, two smaller for kids or soaking, plus a larger pool with a 6" deep submerged platform area for relaxing on in the water. There is a small private beach area and plenty of shade and sun to lay in all day long. The spa area at the top of the property is tropical and luxurious with a large hot tub (pool really) in the middle of a beautiful garden.

This place is a true family run establishment and the staff will be happy to assist you in any way they can with arranging tours, information on the area or just great conversation in either Spanish or English. Started by the mother Laura, it was recently turned over to her daughter Angelica who runs it with her family and a wonderful staff. Angelica and her long-time partner got engaged while we were staying there and it was like we were part of the Mar de Jade family as we celebrated over breakfast on the ocean-view patio.

Our room was spacious and had an upstairs with two single beds and downstairs with two double beds and a dining area. Although not considered an ocean front room, we had a beautiful view of the ocean from the dining table and could hear the waves crashing on the beach at night.

I stayed there with my mother and 5-yr old daughter and it was ideal for the three of us. There was also a large group from Habitat for Humanity there (they do a lot of groups, retreats and conventions) and also some couples and other families, mostly American, Mexican and some Canadian.

March 13 to 20th, a group of women who all dance within the organization called "NIA" (NOW I AM), met at Mar de Jade to dance almost three hours a day (morning, then evening) in a studio overlooking the incredible JADE SEA; joined to eat wonderful food;
walked to town, went whale watching (optional). The rooms were lovely; many of us went to the spa for a massage once or twice. All in all, this was a fantastic week at Mar de Jade.

Small scale, quiet, well appointed hotel right on the beach, at the edge of the jungle, where the sea surf is always audible! The water was swimmable and good for body surfing, especially later in the day. Caring, values oriented owners with helpful staff. They knew the names/room numbers of most people in our party of 15! Outstanding food--no need to eat anyplace else. We arrived and felt very little pull to go anywhere else. If you want lots of quiet, easy access to the beach, excellent food in a comfy, clean place--welcome. Did wish there was no smoking on the property. Ground level rooms feel part of the jungle, and upper level rooms have a view of the sea. It is one of the most restful places I've stayed, and I would be thrilled to return!

I chose to decline side trips and just stay at Mar de Jade the entire week: serenaded by the sound of surf, enjoying the colors of tropical plants and the green sea, breathing in the ocean air, punctuated by the scent of fresh, nutritious, and delicious food.

The staff was warm, very child friendly, professional and efficient and made every effort to accomodate any special needs.

A lovely facility for medication, exercise and the spa is delightful.

Beautiful beach property with sandy beach access, light undertow, no snorkeling. Yoga rooms are specatcular tree top, ocean view perches. Food is fresh and tasty, lots of safe produce, great fish. Rooms may require a hike up two flights of stairs. Lovely spa and massage center.

I attended a NIA/YOGA retreat at Mar de Jade. It was the perfect place to gather with others for learning and relaxing. Our room was elegant and tucked into the hillside. The buildings and grounds were beautiful and gave a sense of mystery and quiet relaxation. The ocean views from the covered outdoor dining room, bar and studio were breathtaking--especially at sunset. In addition to the setting and fantastic food, the staff is one of the reasons I plan to return. Everyone was friendly, helpful and made us feel so welcomed.

We don't often go on vacation and this far surpassed our expectations! After initial worry when went down the short bumpy dirt road to the resort we were transported to someplace truly magical! Incredible food, gorgeous spot right on the ocean away from the tourist beach, beautiful walks nearby through the jungle, and consistently friendly staff. Although I don't usually spend this much on vacation, it was not only worth the value, but I feel delighted that the family running the resort is using money they make to help the local people. Be sure to ask about it when you go.
