“worse experience EVER”
Reviewed May 8, 2013

We were a group of 13 people, we hiked all the morning on the beautiful mountains on Moganshan and we decided to have lunch in the Moganshan lodge since many friends said is a nice place. We reached the place and we ordered burger, sandwiches and pasta (we immediately noticed the burgers were quite overprices: 70 rmb)

We started to chat and drink until we realized that almost 1 hour was passed! so we kindly asked to the supposely manager of the palce, a woman from Lithuania, and she replied that the food would arrived in 15 minutes. (the restaurant had just few customers already sitting by the way). She cleared said this to avoid us to stand up and go away.
Others 30 minutes passed and no food on the table..so we asked again explaination to the woman and she said again we have to wait 15 minutes more!

Then finally after almost 2 hours we got the food but:
- burgers were with the wrong kind of bread (with toast!), so they were not burgers as everyone can expect..
- the burgers were very SMALL portion not worth at all 70 RMB
- on the menu the burger suppose to came with salad and french fries: we found 2 slice of tomatoes and 2 of cucumber...the french fries were all but not french fries...
Absolutely not worth 70 RMB.
- the pasta was sweet

We called again the manager to complain and with arrogance she tried to find excuses to justify her incapablilty to manage a small place like that one.

Instead of telling us we had to wait long in the beginning she kept silence and make his customer wait forever.
At the end she just didnt make us pay the burgers with the wrong bread (4 pcs).

Never again in Moganshan Lodge.

“Shockingly bad service & construction with flamethrowers”
Reviewed March 31, 2013

"If you could have a seat, that would be great." was our curt welcome as we checked out the menu at the front desk. We then proceeded to sit down and get no service for over 20 minutes until we eventually left without even having the opportunity to order. We watched as the clearly incompetent Western server would take one order for fries and a drink at the table next to us and then disappear for 2 minutes, returning with nothing and then take an order for a hamburger from the table next to us, and then disappear again. Then she came out again and picked up two plates and took no orders, disappearing again. This carried on until we realized that there was no point at which we would be served. Despite having less than a dozen customers, she seemed wholly unable to provide any service whatsoever. For a place that charges 80 RMB for a hamburger, that's just not acceptable. Atmosphere was also terrible with heavy construction and burning smells, grinding sounds, etc. Next to our table there was a rack of drying shoe insoles, pants and underwear - I think you get the picture.

“Defintely not China Cukoo...”
Reviewed October 20, 2012

After reading Mark's book I wanted to experience the Lodge and village around Monganshan. Easy to see why he loves Moganshan so much, it reminds me of Gatlinburg Tennesee and the misty vistas than you encounter from the various hikes. Lots of lovely surprises in this picturesque mountain village. There is a "time capsule" feel to the local architecture and you sense the pull of every house wanting to tell the story of it's origin.

We dined at the lodge for lunch and dinner. For lunch we had pasta, salad and a burger. All tasty and with an English sense of propriety. After hiking down into the Sword Pond and back we were famished and that made us all the more focused on the meal. Sitting outside allowed us to enjoy the autumn sun while avoiding the cacophony of Chinese tourists with their megaphone enabled leaders. Nothing fancy, but very inviting and communal.

Dinner was a low key but efficient affair - fixed menu of vegetable cream soup, roast pork and potatoes.carrots and a chocolate mousse for dessert. Wine list is limited but reasonably priced. I am thankful for the Lodge as it gave us a little cultural reprieve while visiting this gem of nature.

“Moganshan Lodge is the perfect place on the mountain to stumble across and enjoy a much needed pot of tea.”
Reviewed July 18, 2012 via mobile

With all the character and charm we hoped to expect from the lodge, we enjoyed every minute there. The staff are very friendly and helpful with good English.
The kids were kept amused by the tv corner and DVD selection. Which left us to enjoy the tea and brownies served in a lovely bone china cup and large pot. We sat in front of the stone fireplace with the fresh air and mountain views beaming through the window. One could not help but imagine what it must have been like for the Shanghai elite back in the 1920's who first built all the lovely stone houses up there.

Lunch was pleasent, a familiar menu to most westerners and the pork an mash we had for dinner was delicious. Pricey compared to most other Chinese restaurants but the food is good.
Thank you to everyone at the Lodge for making our visit most enjoyable. Keep up the good service.

“Great Food and Friendly Staff”
Reviewed March 5, 2012

My wife and I spent the weekend in Moganshan. We did a bit of research online and the Moganshan Lodge had a very helpful website. Egle went above and beyond and arranged for our ride to and from the Hangzhou train station. Getting to Moganshan is a chore, but well worth it. It took us about 4 hours each way from our home in Shanghai. We think if you go by private car, the trip could be quicker.

The Lodge is an oasis for non-Chinese food and coffee. We were there the first weekend of the season and consequently were cold. We could see our breath while inside. Good thing the Lodge served hot tea, coffee, wine, and booze to keep us warm. The Lodge even cooked our dinner late the night we arrived and this was really kind of them. The food and service were both great.
