Lunched at Groove Train last week in large party of 18 which is always difficult. Colleague booked but we must have been expecting more as they had the place settings very close, yuck. Water and glasses were on the table already thankfully but we found it very hot. Platters of antipasta and breads with three dips all down the table were a great starter to share, very tasty although the bread ran out before all the food on the platter was gone.
Meals ordered down my end included the porterhouse steak on sweet potato mash -10/10, the tempura barramundi , huge and good and the warm beef salad which I had, delicious. The smoked salmon salad is also good and I have been told the gnocchi is great.
Tried a Marborough Sav Blanc, served appropriately and an ice bucket provided, not bad at $28.
Food prices are average here but the food is good and portions are well sized, not mountains but certainly plenty, well presented and tasty.
Service is okay, one girl was terrible on drinks, she'd take an order off one person then bolt, rather than looking around and checking if anyone else needed something. Gee love, look down at glasses and see whose got any empty one and ask them too. Not rocket science.
Coffee is good, didnt bother with desserts, too full.
Lastly, its quite noisy, big open space so with music you cant hear whats being said down the table. As it quietened down towards 3 it was much more pleasant.
Total bill was $750ish not bad for a long lunch
