From the moment we walked in a lovely feel, the apartment one of the best appointed we have ever been in and very clean. The pool and spa area is great for the kids, a short walk to the beach, we loved our stay.

Our 7th stay and counting. Once again 'brilliant'. A great place to stay and rejuvenate after one hell of a stressful year. Yes there are airplanes, but bar a bit of noise, this adds to the experience, Tony and Miles were once again gracious hosts with a great sense of humour, who took pride in their establishment and went out of their way to help, when needed. This time we enlisted an 'adopted' son who had never left Canterbury NZ and we showed him what the Gold Coast had to offer. We dragged him through the shops, rode the rides at most of the Theme parks, and enjoyed a meal at Hard Rock. The most memorable times for us all though were when we got to become part of the crowd and enjoy Australia's hospitality. This included one hell of a game of league at Suncorp Stadium where the Bronco's were unlucky to be beaten by the Rabbito's (yep, no surprises who I was backing) and the train trip from Varsity Lakes and back (which was included in the price of the ticket). The atmosphere in the train was almost as electric as to what we experienced at the game. If you are after a something slightly more challenging give Sam and his crew a call at Currumbin Surf School, they excel at what they do and enjoy doing it, whether it's your first time or after some tips with your technique. We spent a lot of time just relaxing by the pool, surfing with Sam and enjoying the beach, which is just a short stroll from the complex. The apartment was great, with a bed I wish I could have bought home. I would recommend to anyone.

Apart from a tiny hiccup - we could not find the cups! we 3 had a pleasant and moderately priced 2 day stay there. They are just around the corner from the Wildlife Sanctuary and a short walk from the beach and Elephant Rock.

We stayed in one of the very spacious 2 bedroom apartments with a balcony overlooking a very pretty and very clean lagoon pool and spa and well-kept gardens. The rooms were all clean, tidy and well-supplied (including cups!) and the resident managers, Tony and Miles, were friendly and helpful.

If you're going to Currumbin or anywhere nearby, they are handy. They are just 20 minutes away from Surfers and not far from the theme parks if you want a retreat from the crowds.
We recommend them.

Room Tip: For young families: cycling, skateboarding could be a good activity. There are also three parks with...

Our stay was stressful and afterwards we needed a holiday (and pest control.)
1) The rooms are in the flight path of the nearby airport and the deafening noise starts at 6 am and goes until late. After a few days you can't wait to get out of the place.
2) The rooms DO NOT LOOK like photographs in advertising/promotional material. They have little natural light (very dim) and the lounge furniture is tired and circa 1980s.
3) There is no lift, which means that luggage has to be carted from the basement car park up 2 flights of stairs (with no assistance).
4) The beds in the 2nd bedroom (the kiddies room) are very old, saggy and uncomfortable.
5) Reception is closed in the middle of the day, which is often very inconvenient.
6) I spent the first 20 minutes of my stay cleaning the balcony area, which looked like a party had been there the night before.I wiped grease, crumbs, corn chips, and drip spills from the table, and swept food crumbs/chip pieces off the floor.
7) I got bitten by bedbugs and managed somehow to bring them home. We have spent hundreds on pest control products and services, and are still battling with them now.
I do not want anyone else to go through this horrible experience of being bitten and having to get rid of them. It is really awful.

Audrey B,

Thank you for your review.
In response to your review we certainly do not have bed bugs. As a policy practice all bedding at Sanctuary Lake Apartments is Sanitized by a Professional company " Mattress Hygiene" and the last treatment was December 2013 the purpose of this treatment is to clean the mattresses and CHECK for among other things bed bugs and we have been using this professional company for the past 5 years and we have never had an issue. We also engage the services of a professional pest control company to treat every apartment for pests including bed bugs the last scheduled treatment was 29, 30 April and 1 May 2014.Both companies have reported and found absolutely no infestation of any pests. We shall provide a copy of our Certificate of Inspections to the author of this review. We have inspected every apartment and found absolutely zero pest infestation. We extend an invitation to any interested party including Audrey B to visit for inspection. This is a serious matter for which we shall be seeking advice.on this malicious unfounded allegation.

Having arrived on Dec 23, our ten day holiday at the Sanctuary Lake Apartments started with an unhelpful and grumpy receptionist who looked like she would rather be anywhere else. Merry Christmas.

After our lukewarm reception, we trudged up two flights of stairs to our third level apartment with our luggage and two tired children aged 4 and 5 ( obviously having requested a ground floor apartment to avoid this situation). Once we had arrived at the top level, we were treated with a view of a construction site, complete with scaffolding. (Apparently the statement on the Sanctuary Lake Apartment that every room has a view of the Lagoon Pool or Garden was correct when the website was built). The two bedroom apartment was small and tired with furnishing circa 1983, the shower water pressure was terrible and the TV was the size of a laptop computer screen.

Having spent three minutes on our balcony staring at the side of a partially built house, we decided that we would politely request to be moved to another apartment, perhaps more like the rooms pictured on the website. However when we enquired at the reception, we were advised that the apartments were fully booked and it was not possible to move. This was clearly a blatant lie as the vacancy sign advertised vacancies for the entire 10 days we stayed. Mental note - booking early (i.e. April) does not guarantee a good room.

Having resigned ourselves to the fact that we had already fully paid for the accommodation and availability would be limited at other apartments, we decided to stay and put it down to a bad experience. We took a dip in the lagoon pool, went for an early dinner and returned for a good night sleep, or so we hoped...

The bed was the most uncomfortable bed I have ever slept in (and I have camped on the rock hard ground of Morocco). In 10 days, I think I mustered 30 hours sleep and this was having spent 4 solid 8 hour days walking around theme parks! Perhaps the roaring sound of 737 airliners at 6am didn't help. Strangely the website didn't mention the Sanctuary Lake Apartments were located directly under the flight path for Coolangatta Airport and that flights start at 6 in the morning, continuing into early evening.

In the end, we were happy to leave the apartment.

Only positives: Lagoon pool. Proximity to Sanctuary and beach.

Our vacation in Gold Coast was made memorable not just because of the beautiful beaches but also because of our stay in Sanctuary Lake Apartments. The resort was situated in a less busy place (compared to Surfer's Paradise) which gave us peace and quiet, but it was also accessible to tourist spots. It was easy to go there by bus from the airport (there's a bus stop only 3 mins away) and the Currumbin beach was just a short walk from the apartment - we were able to catch the sunrise and sunset on the viewing deck of the Elephant rock since the place was just near. The rooms were all clean and well-maintained. We had everything we needed from tissue paper, dishwasher powder, pots and pans, down to towels, utensils, and champagne glasses. The beds were comfortable (I slept very soundly each night we were there) and I loved lounging around in the pool and the jacuzzi after an activity-filled day. The management took care of us and was very attentive to our needs - they're open to suggestions and feedback and acted on it immediately. My friends and I really loved our stay and will definitely go back. :)
