We stayed in the Bashful chalet. It is a beautiful little escape in the heart of the forest. As soon as you arrive at the Mouses house you feel at home with a friendly welcome from the staff. The sense of peace and serenity you feel as you walk through the forest to your chalet prepares you for the bliss you are about to experience during your stay.

We enjoyed the spa and full kitchen, the fireplace and reverse cycle aircon. Everything from the top to the bottom of the chalet was magical. From the eco friendliness to the dwarf on the bed when we arrived. One of the things we liked is that everything was included in the price - they let you borrow any number of their dvd's and board games borrow the bikes, play tennis, use the sauna or hot tub - no extra charges.

My husband brought me here form my birthday but it was also a welcome break from the floods in Brisbane. We really enjoyed our time here and plan to return with more of our family for longer in the future.

Stayed here based on the website/reviews. We picked Snow White, which has a private deck on the creek, covered BBQ & table, and lots of windows out to the forest. Cabins are very well spaced out in the rain forest, making them very private. The atmosphere at night is magical with the sounds and visits from local wildlife. Just a short walk down the road are some great trails through Springbrook park. We had a very enjoyable stay, and would definitely stay here again.

We loved every minute - so private and serene. Loved the log fire, endless supply of wood, heated towel rack, huge spa, running stream, ultra comfy bed and doona, mood lighting, huge breakfast pack, little jams, complimentary port - from the moment you enter the gate, you just relax and become part of a wonderful feel that makes you realise how long it has been since you spent some real quality time and got to rekindle your romance and get to really know the one you love. We absolutely loved every minute except for the bush turkey on our balcony - that was a bit scarey. Everything was magic in the Wicked Witch Chalet - lovely friendly owners who remain unobtrusive. Treat yourself and enjoy the delights this beautiful place of beauty offers well worth every cent and more

We stayed in the new chalet - "Sleeping Beauty" which is only 4 months old. It is beautiful. As soon as you open the door you feel relaxed! We were greeted with complimentary port in our room as well as an included breakfast basket which was more than adequate. The place was full of so many small touches that made it feel so much more comfortable than a hotel. From the electric blankets (with 2 separate controls) to the jacuzzi everything was welcoming (sleeping beauty has an inside spa and a jacuzzi out on the deck next to the stream). One of the best things i liked is that everything was included in the price - they let you borrow any number of their dvd's and board games (we played chess with eachother for the 1st time ever even though it was our 5th anniversary); borrow the bikes, play tennis, use the sauna or hot tub - no extra charges. There are quite a few bush walks in close range which are great and a good enough length not to be too exhausting for your relaxing weekend away. It is totally secluded - we were not bothered by anyone else for the 2 nights we were there. It really is a place to get away from your busy life and enjoy those things you're usually too busy to do.
Thanks Mouses House!

I stayed in "Grumpy" chalet with my partner for 2 nights while attending a wedding nearby. We found the room very cute, and the setting really is beautiful - next to a babbling mountain stream in the rainforest.

There are a few quirks that, given the price of the room, held me back from giving it five stars:
- The tea and coffee supplies were a bit like those at a three-star-motel. Cheap teabags, cheap instant coffee sachets and those little individual UHT milk tubs. Same with the bathroom amenities, not what I would expect for the price. No face washers provided.
- no heating in the bathroom. It gets very cold in the mountains and the tiled floor and toilet seat were icy cold!
- the design of the chalet has made for some oddly-located light switches and power points. I struggled to reach a power point to plug my phone charger into; and it took me at least 15 minutes to find the switch that would turn off the lights in the kitchen!

All small things though really, and could be easily fixed.

My big tip for you if you're staying in Springbrook: BYO food, and shop before you drive up the mountain!! The chalets are self-catering, and I'll bet that whatever you can cook will be better than the very limited dining options in the village. There is a tiny general store in the village, but they don't have much.

Dear LetsDoLunch,

Thank you for your recent stay & review of The Mouses House. Looking at your many past reviews (21 in total) you are a well travelled (Sydney, Cairns, NZ, Hong Kong, USA) person. I love the way you called us "quirky". In today's world of corporate hotels with the 'same old, same old', for the Mouses House to be different is a huge positive advantage. If you are getting away for a romantic getaway, hotels are so boring. The Mouses House is so different and very romantic. With this in mind, our weekends are booked up to 3 months in advance. I know compared to similar retreats, our w/end rates for what we offer (fireplace with all firewood, huge spa baths with views, bathrobes, self contained 'sole use' separate rainforest chalets - not just a standard hotel room lined side by side etc) is cheap. If guests can avoid staying a Saturday night, they are rewarded with discounts off our standard w/end tariff.

I personally like Lipton tea and Nescafe Blend 43 coffee. They are world wide top sellers, so a lot of people must like the brands. I would say serving "International Roast' coffee is cheap. If one of my 2 suppliers offered "Marcona" coffee, I would buy it.

I'm sure you noticed before and during your stay with us, we are a credited, fully certified "EcoTourism" retreat. With this mind, we are dedicated to saving our environment by using large bottles of refillable Shampoo & Conditioner in guest showers & vanity soap pumps rather than the very un-environmentally friendly small amenity bottles. We think this is very responsible. On the same note, we found only 1 out of 10 guests use face washers. We removed this to save re-washing over and over again wasting detergent, electricity and gas which are precious, expensive commodities.

With the chalet bathroom located right next to the lounge room with dual heating sources of the fireplace (which can make the room very warm and toasty) and the reverse heating air-con heating up to 31ºC, I can look into the possibility of installing a heat lamp (?) for the bathroom. Of course more electricity used puts more pressure on us to raise room rates to cover costs, which the general public don't want. Lastly, any questions from guests can be quickly solved by using the in-chalet telephone to call reception.

I hope this explains the reasons behind carefully decided choices we offer guests on many different levels. We thank you for your feedback and we can always fine-tune The Mouse House for our future guests. Kind regards, Wayne Randall - owner.
