“Bad beds, Fire Safety Issues”
Reviewed November 5, 2010

We stayed at the resort for 2 weeks over Labour weekend. Apon check in via Bluesky was told the Safety locks and chains had been removed from inside doors for a safety issues if there was a fire, BUT if there was a fire you would 1st need to find your swipe card from your smoke filled room to be able to get out of the building... Not very logic! Another bad reason, your child can open the door and be gone down the stairs as there is no lifts in resort before you know it and not be able to get back in as we found out many times.
In one of the rooms the screen door lock was broken which we were told someone would come to fix it on our 1st day along with the swipe card entry to our room as the battery was getting low. Neither of these were fixed during the stay.
There are safe's in the rooms but they dont work or have the codes to lock then re-open them so hid your valuables.
The beds.... We only had a double bed with the matress about 3inches thick. My husband has a tender neck this just made it sssoooo much worst. He ended up spending $800 of our money on the Drs and chiropracter to try and get it fixed, then just have to do it all again the next day because of the horrible beds. Hence he was in alot of pain the whole holiday not very relaxing time had by all.
We couldn't just check out and go to another hotel as we had to pay 1 month in advance.
However the pool's and faclities were nice.

The apartment refered to in the review are managed by an external agent as shown.
A room key is not required to either exit the room or the building - this would be contrary to Fire Laws. Our building is audited monthly for all compliance issues.

We just spent 9 nights at the Turtle Beach. We booked our accommodation through blue sky holiday group. The surroundings are just lovely, nice and tropical. Our room was up 2 1/2 flights of stairs, hard pulling all that luggage up, especially when you asked for a ground floor apt.
The apartment itself is nice and spacious, but the hairs on the sheets, the smelly bed top covers, the moldy curtains and the smelly lounge chairs left a lot to be desired.
Having an extra toilet roll and a few more spare (clean) blankets would have been a nice touch as well. Not much fun being stuck on the toilet with no toilet roll.
The pools were lovely, but some more deck chairs would be good.
We ate at the wood fired pizza place and also the rain forest cafe', both really nice. The only gripe I have is that I had 4-5 take away coffees and they were all 'warm'.
We enjoyed our stay on the gold coast, but I'd find it hard to recommend the turtle beach resort.

The apartment refered to in this article is managed by an external agent not the onsite manager.
We are happy you enjoyed the outside areas and dining facilities which we do take full credit for and pride in.

excellent room, comfortable, beds ok. consideration should be given to escorting guests on arrival to their rooms, particulary if dark or raining. a tile specialist should be tasked with making swimming pools tiles and corridor thoroughfare tiles non slip.
the pina colada drink i had was gross compared to one down the road at the lone star. transpires they use milk not cream....for $12 or so dollars it should be the real thing.
all in all i thought this was a fantastic facility, very well thought out and designed, and maintained. great pools/gym/miniput/games room/theatre.

We spent a winter weekend getaway at Turtle beach. Really enjoyable experience. Close enough to the Gold Coast and far enough away at the same time.
The resort itself is great. In the middle of winter the kids were in and out of the pool daily. The small on-site cinema was also popular with our guys, although they preferred taking the bus up to the shopping centre's cinema to see the current movies.
Walked up to the local shopping mall/centre one day, but found it just a little to far. Easy trip on the bus and even simpler in a taxi. The kids went up there a couple of times on the bus with no issues.
Good family eateries on-site, with a range of takeaway stores directly across the street - which was good for adults and kids to get what each wanted.
Easy access to 7-Eleven across the road too.
Although the highway out front is not somewhere to leave pre-teens to cross on their own.
The resort is great and we plan on staying there again.

Great resort with nice gardens. Laid back feel on the gold coast compared to other high rises nearby.

This was our second time at Turtle Beach 2, The first time was in 2006. We came to Surfers Paradise again in 2008 and tried a caravan park which was really good too but was real far from Surfers Paradise and also too dear during school holidays so we decided to come back to Turtle Beach 2 but this time for 14 nights with my family. For all of the families who are thinking of staying here then forget the whingers complaining about silly things, just book it and enjoy your stay. Last time we stayed on the ground floor which was ideal having young kids who could just go to the pool, play ground or cinema room through slide door which I really preferred. This time we stayed on the 1st floor and actually liked it even more. Every morning I would have breakfast on our balcony over looking the pool area. Having 2 bathrooms and a laundry room is differnately a plus. I have been telling all my family & friends about this place and would strongly recommend anyone thinking of going to the Gold Coast to book to stay here. Great Job Turtle Beach and keep up with your great service!!!!

We have recently returned from a 10 day trip to the Gold Coast and where recommended the Turtle Sands resort by our travel agent here in NZ.

Although the resort did meet most of our expectations with having several pools to keep the children happy and was close to bus stop so getting around was easy, we felt very let down by the sleeping arrangements. As we are a family of 5 we booked a 2 bedroom unit with a fold away bed for one of the children. The bed was left in the lounge on arrival for us to make up and once I had done this and our eldest boy got onto it he refused to sleep on it as the mattress was so thin you could feel the springs through it. He spent the rest of the time sleeping on a two seater couch. I am disappointed to say that the double and single beds where no better, all the beds where extremely firm and we all found it difficult to get a good nights sleep. The morning after our arrival I asked the reception if anything could be done about the beds and was told that the unit are individually owned and that they would inform the owner that we where not happy with the beds, after another restless night on the double bed, I asked if we could have a foam topper pad for the double bed and a more suitable roll away bed for our eldest son, we did get a new roll away bed but this was no better than the first. By the next morning I was not able to stand straight and asked again if something could be done, again I was told that the units are individually owned and that it was up to the owners to do something but that the message would get passed on. After another night I again approached the reception and was told by the young girl I spoke to that she would send up 2 extra mattress that we could put on top of the double bed, these mattress appeared to be from a sun lounger and although did give some degree of comfort, as they where quite wide we where only able to fit one on the double bed, by this time I had given up trying to get something done and both my Husband and I spent the rest of our Holiday with back pain (not good when you are visiting theme parks with young children).

We both felt the lack of concern about our comfort whilst at the resort was very disappointing and now wish I had made a bit more noise at the time. I will not book accommodation again simply on the recommendation of our travel agent and would not recommend this resort if you value your sleep.

This lady wrote us "War & Peace" on 3 pieces of paper attached to one of our Guest Questionnaires and after I waded through the whole story I spoke to my staff to see what this was about.
During the process I found out that this particular apartment, which is privately owned, had just recently had all brand new hotel grade mattresses ! Most of our 300 apartments hav also completed a similar upgrade.
There is not much more that anybody can do than replace the mattress - sure, hotel mattresses will be different to your own mattress at home, but that does not mean there is anything wrong with it. The way she was going on, we got the impression that she was complaining about a sub-standard or very worn mattress.
This left us wondering if this lady spent her whole holiday sitting in her apartment writing notes about her mattress instead of enjoying the resort facilities and visisting the many local Gold Coast attractions like the beach, Dreamworld and Movie World.
I do not have the time to respond to many reviews but I wanted to let your readers know that this was not about sub-standard or worn mattresses but was about the mattresses being brand new !!
