“Location Location Location...time to update the food”
Reviewed January 8, 2014

The Southport Surf Club has been amongst the best family restaurants on this part of the Gold Coast for many years. We have been visiting friends and family at Main Beach for about 10 years and have eaten here at least once or twice every summer over that time.

The staff are friendly, the registration is well organised, bar service is attentive and the quality of food, for the most part, is best of breed.

It always seems that the burgers & chips, fish & chips etc are the better options. Last night the seafood pasta was rated poorly at our table, however, the other eight meals were rated as very good.

There is a need for more attention to detail with items such as coasters, menu covers etc either not on tables or in need of replacement / repair.

Ah yes, the menu...desperately in need of an update to include a greater variety of options. Less burgers and chips, more stir fry's, salads and healthy options. The wine list too could do with greater variety and consistent availability. Twice this summer our first choice wine was not available.

Still a pleasant venue, still great value, just a little tired and looking for some imagination to remain competitive.

“Great food but...”
Reviewed January 7, 2014 via mobile

We visited the surf club and had dinner there! Food was great however one of the staff members was so rude towards us!
We had about 5 kids they were a little noisy but we were put in the function room so it didn't really matter they weren't bothering anyone how ever this lady keep saying such rude things like oh I'm glad we put you in here your so noisy, and I thought you would all be gone by now.
It's really disappointed me as I feel my money is as good as anyone's and at the end of the day she had no right to be rude towards us. Unfortunately it has left a sour taste in my mouth!

We turned up New Years Eve 6pm hoping to get a table. All booked out; however they were kind enough to open up the balcony in front of the function room. We had the best view of the beach and the fire works were right in front of us!. The food was amazing . They were huge. My hubby and son had ribs and were not disappointed. Thank you for great hospitality and great food. We will be back again.

“Great surf club”
Reviewed December 22, 2013

Have had a good experience here, great view, food is fairly quick, staff were friendly. It's surf club food so don't expect gourmet dishes but it's hearty and good for your money we loved the seafood basket, but my favourite was the pancake smoked salmon stack with a cashew pesto and lashings of sour cream Yum!

“Food really good, service not so much”
Reviewed December 17, 2013

We recently had a lunch with work for christmas with 15+ people. We had a great table in the corner but we were squished in like sardines. The service staff seemed very disorganised and although it was busy for a weekday, it seemed like the staff did not know what to do. Our table was never cleared during our lunch for empty glasses or plates after our lunch. So we had to sit and mingle with dirty dishes and glasses all over the place. On the up side - the food was amazing - the rack of lamb was a big hit with our group and so was the calamari. Great location with stunning views of the ocean.
