My wife and I made a last minute descion to travel to the Gold Coast for the Jan long weekend.

Looking at possible hotels it was a real throw back to the 80's when I used to travel there with my parents. Quite frankly, the Gold Coast looks dated and tired.

But the airfares were reasonable and we decided to give the Palazzo a go. We are glad we did.

The service from arrival to leaving was great. Didn't feel a hint of stuffiness as some suggest. We may have been lucky, but this was consistent throughout our stay.

We had a Broadwater suite and while having to crane the neck to see the broadwater from level 2 we were on, the room was simply fantastic. I'm not a fan of gltizy Versace style but my pre ideas about it proved wrong. Tasteful furnishings and decor throughout except the couch which doubled as a sofa bed that was useless to sit on as you sunk though and quite frankly felt a bit cheap.

WE ate at both Vie and the main breakfast area for dinner and we enjoyed both. We thought it wsa excellent value. About $200 - $250 for two with wine.

Breakfast was excellent in comparison to other hotels around the world in our view. The fruit just tastes better in Qld.

Just one thing we should be told but were not, on Sundays it is a gold coast thing to eat at Palazzo - we ate early to avoid the rush!

We enjoyed a turn down service each night.

You get what you pay for, it's not the cheapest (probably the dearest!) but if you want a special treat away from touristy GC, the Palazzo is a winner.

Thank you for your review, we are delighted that your enjoyed your stay at Palazzo Versace.

Vie Bar + Restaurant is one of our hidden secrets. The view over the Broadwater is fantastic and is certainly a drawcard for those looking for a long, lazy Sunday lunch!

We look forward to welcoming you back in the future.

The room we stayed at was quite small in comparison to other 5 star hotels on the Gold Coast but it was beautifully decorated with some added touches, such as miniature versace perfumes.
Reception were extremely helpful and friendly whilst some of the bar staff were a bit lacking.
Quite overpriced but it is to be expected when everything is Versace, however i did manage to get a great deal through Qantas.
The man-made beach was cute and the pool was amazing and quite empty.
Excellent restaurant next door as well with a beautiful view of the ocean.

Come to this hotel if you want to stay somewhere lavish, over-the-top and luxurious. People watching is interesting and sometimes there are supercars parked at the front worth a second glance.

I really enjoyed our stay at this hotel, the room was on the small side but you have to take into account the huge bathroom! Loved the Versace miniature perfumes they give you. Breakfast was included and excellent. Vanitas, the fine dining restaurant, is also a must-try in my opinion. Before I die, I'm going to stay at the Imperial Suite!

We were here on our honeymoon, after having a not so great time in byron bay we drove up to The Versace Palazo... Sheer luxurious, bliss! Gorgeous Room, great food, great service.

ALthough the weather wasnt great it was nice to be in such a great hotel.

The spa is positively rancid absolutley filthy, and with dressing gowns that I wouldnt even donate to the third world!

There is a shopping centre just next door which was very nice with some amazing restaurants in too. Definitely worth a visit!....

Shame it wasnt sunny as it would have made the experience a whole lot better but great hotel...

My wife and I took our two children (7 & 2) for a few days on the Gold Coast inclusive of a day at Sea World.

We booked the Versace, whereas traditionally we would have stayed at the Mirage. With all the financial troubles its owners have had we thought it would be a bit run down and light on refurbishment. Mind you we think it is a beautifully designed hotel.

On the other hand we had preconceived ideas of what the Versace hotel would be. We thought it would be way over the top like all of that 90’s Versace clothing and not really well suited for kids.

How wrong could we be. Realistically it is a much smaller hotel than we thought and the design and styling was very very nice. Nothing too over the top and all pulled together really nicely – very stylish. We stayed in a suite on the eastern side and the room was lovely and well appointed. Only downside is the sun comes up very brightly around 5am in Summer and the curtains need to be much better to block the sun. A few gaps and the whole room was lit up. I would prefer to be on the western side next time.

For a hotel that is circa 10 years old it is holding up very nicely and looks really well maintained

The pool with a sandy beach was delightful and the angle and depth was perfect for kids (and in particular our two year old). Sand makes a wonderful difference. We were not the only ones with kids and at times it seemed like there were a lot of kids. Also the design and layout means the pool is well protected from the wind which is pretty solid a lot of the time around that area of the coast.

We dined only at the hotel restaurants and the food was great.

All in all the service was excellent.

A couple of negatives however.

We wanted to dine at the buffet on the Saturday night and they had no space. They found us a pretty average table at another of their restaurants (by the front door). The food and service was great but not much ambience. I had passed by the restaurant earlier in the day and asked if we needed to book or anything and was assured we need not, so I did not.

My view about this is that they need to work their system so guest in the hotel are a priority or at least made to feel that way. I can’t see how they can’t maintain a few unbooked tables for house guests and/or take some time to tell guests when they are booking in that certain restaurants will need a booking (lots do).

I was very annoyed given I was told not to bother booking and asked to see the manager. It is a buffet and with a bit of effort I think any good restaurant can manage this sort of scenario. Her attitude was very professional, but superficial in the extreme. She was busy the hotel was busy and she did not give two hoots whether we found a restaurant or not. It was a case of tough luck and not her problem. I walked away from the discussion like I had had someone tell me to (--) to my face.

Another negative was how they let people plonk a towel on a lounge and reserve it. They have advice that this is frowned upon but do nothing to prevent it. Again I have seen this issue managed very easily in other hotels with a little bit of effort from the staff. We went very early for breakfast one morning – 6.30am (as you do with young kids) and watched person after person wander across to the lounges and place a towel and something on them and depart. This morning we ended up staying and swimming until 11am and it was astonishing how few people had come to their reserved lounges in the whole time.

So every day at the pool we had to put our stuff on the step. Fine for me and the kids as we like to have a swim but not really fair for my wife who would have liked to lay on a lounge and get some sun.

One other weird thing was the card based handing out of towels at the pool, I guess for the fear of theft. Nice towels but really if someone wants to steal a towel I can’t see how this would stop them.

Without the awful attitude of the manger I spoke to we would return every time we went to the coast. With her attitude I will be sure to check if the Mirage is in good shape or not.

There is nothing worse than being sick on holiday - except perhaps bad service.
Lucky for my ailing husband and myself - struck down by a infection the night before our planned Queensland vacation - Palazzo Versace offered nothing but exceptional service. On our first night stay in desperation I rang concierge at 2am to see if I could organise separate rooms due to the fact that constant coughing, sneezing and chest wheezing had kept us both awake. We needed separate spaces to recover. What happened next was extraordinary - sympathy for our sickness, people sent to our room to help us pack our suitcases, a prompt move to a new suite which offered separate bedrooms so we could both attempt sleep of some kind! All with a smile and sympathy for our predicament! We were sick for our whole stay there but it was still wonderful - not many places you can say that about! I would stay at Palazzo Versace again in a heartbeat.

Our stay at Palazzo Versace was an absolutely amazing experience from the moment we entered the lobby until the moment we checked out. Upon entering the hotel, the lobby is a spectacular first impression. The marble floor, amazingly huge chandelier and the selection of fabrics and furniture is absolutely stunning.

We were checked in by a very friendly girl who made us feel at home from the moment she welcomed us to sit down at the check in desk (yes you actually get to sit down to check in unlike most other hotels). After check in we made our way up to our 3rd floor room to discover that our key cards did not work in the door. We returned to the lobby to let them know about the situation where another pleasant woman kindly showed us back up to our room to let us in and called for someone to repair the malfunctioning card reader. We were very impressed with how well they handled the situation.

Our room was gorgeous and was complete with beautiful inlaid parquetry flooring and elegant furnishings and fabrics. Basically everything in the room was Versace branded including all of the pieces of furniture, the sheets, towels, cushions and even the scented oil burning on the desk. The room was very spacious as was the stunning marble bathroom with spa bath and separate shower and lavatory areas. The toiletries provided were fantastic and the complimentary his and hers Versace fragrance bottles they left for us was a nice touch.

The resort itself is staggeringly beautiful as is the trademark Versace fragrance they pump throughout the hallways and public areas of the hotel. The outdoor pool and lounge area is lovely though it could have been made a little larger. One downside to the pool is that it closes at sundown when the restaurant Vanitas, which overlooks the pool, begins dinner service. It would have been fantastic to swim in the pool at night as it is lit up beautifully.

We ate at Vie Restaurant within the Palazzo Versace complex and found the restaurant to be one of the best we have eaten in on the Gold Coast. The decor is subdued and elegant and the meal we had was delicious.

We ordered room service dinner on our second night and while very nice we found it a little overpriced compared to other 5 star hotels we have stayed in.

The lobby lounge is gorgeous at night as the staff light tea candles all around the lobby. It gives the place such a cosy and welcoming atmosphere and it’s the perfect place for a drink.

Breakfast in Il Barocco Restaurant was fantastic. The buffet contained an extensive selection of breakfast items ranging from the traditional eggs, bacon, hash browns, pancakes etc as well as an array of fresh fruit, yogurt, muesli, juices, cereals and pastries.

Overall, Palazzo Versace is definitely up there with the best hotels I have stayed in and worthy of the accolades it receives. The service we received during our stay was outstanding from every member of staff we came into contact with. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a relaxing and luxurious break on the Gold Coast away from all the hustle and bustle of Surfers Paradise. Checking out was the most difficult part of our stay!
