“Excellent value provided you wait for their special deals”

We booked via lastminute.com, got a gardenview room for 399AUD which included the Versace Bathrobe as a gift and breakfast.. At the moment, the same rooms are going for 299AUD minus the robe, VERY GOOD VALUE versus 700AUD full price. What impressed us was the attention to detail, and incredibly proactive and cooperative staff. The man made beach on the pool was impressive, the breakfast was good but we have had better, but the buffet dinner was world class and should not be missed. The Marina Mirage next door also has an excellent choice of quality restaurants (not cheap), as well as the cheaper and cheerful options. Across the road is the Sheraton Mirage, and we also stayed there for two extra nights (we could only get three nights at the Versace for that special deal). So we could compare, but the Versace definitely won out!

Room Tip: All the rooms have tiny balconies with the exception of the garden rooms, so go for this for the pri...

Love this hotel if your looking to relax and chill out this is the hotel they have a man made pool/beach its amazing you have to see it to believe it.

They have queen size beds on the pool that can rent and just relax.
The quality of everything is amazing the food is just a world away everything is just to perfect!

Highly recommend it excellent service they will do there best to take care of you I did read some of the other posts I don't think there right but where all entitled to our opinion hotel has been very busy every time I go there.

I have been on my own and with my wife many time's even just for lunch or dinner but we like it and all our friends go there to have there little escapes from the fast life.

So if your looking to chill and enjoy now you know the place!!

Room Tip: all the rooms are great!

If you want a rest, lazy time, probably better places. Our room was noisey and not inexpensive or their cheapest. Staff nice but not trained to deserve the prices. Will not be back. If you want a wow factore the Lobby is lovey. Food was not special. Good food outlets next door.

We were excited to return to Versace, having stayed several times before and loving every stay of pure indulgence and relaxation. We couldn't have been more disappointed. We paid $1000 for 2 rooms and booked over a month in advance requesting 2 lagoon view rooms as close together as possible, with a bedding configuration of 2 doubles in each as the four of us were treating ourselves as a hens celebration night. We clearly requested Versace advise us if this was not possible. On arrival we were given keys to 2 rooms beside each other, 1 with 2 double beds & the other with 1 king bed. After much discussion with staff and then an assistant manager, we were informed that our only option was to move to another room with a sofa bed, or have a trundle bed in one of our current rooms 'free of charge'. I am disgusted that after paying such a large sum of money I had the displeasure of spending the evening on an incredibly uncomfortable trundle, resulting in a total of 3 hours sleep. The next morning, I discovered I had been charged $44 for the trundle! After complaining, this charge was removed, however instead of the relaxing getaway I was anticipating, I left tired, irritated, and determined never to return which is a shame as the pool area is amazing, as are the spa treatments and facilities. I find it quite incredible that an establishment which is supposedly 6 star give so little value on customer satisfaction. My advice - go elsewhere.

Dear Tehyal,

We certainly share your sentiment and understand how incredibly disappointing it was not to be able to provide the exact bedding configuration for your stay. Unfortunately as your reservations were made via a third party website and not with the hotel, the website in question does not allow to confirm or guarantee your bedding configuration request. The website provided us with your request for two rooms directly beside each other and whilst we were able to fulfil this request, as our interconnecting rooms feature a Twin Bedded Room connecting to a King Bedded Room, the request for two adjacent twin rooms was not able to be met. It was not until your party arrived that we became aware that there were four women travelling together and separate beds were needed. In discussion to find a solution the overriding request was that your party wanted adjacent rooms therefore the only solution was to provide a rollaway bed, for which there was no charge.

We are genuinely sorry that this situation caused you not to enjoy your stay but it allows us to opportunity to highlight that when booking for special occasions, with very specific requirements, we welcome guests to contact the hotel directly to discuss the needs of the stay so we can work together to deliver the expectation.

We would very much like you to return as you state you have always enjoyed the hotel and our facilities. If you would be so kind to contact me directly I will be happy to assist.

Kind Regards,

Lia Holloway

3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 6, 2012

We stayed at Palazzo Versace for 2 nights in early October. First impressions were pretty good, excellent service from conceige and reservations. We were early so our room wasn't ready, no problem as it was lunch time and we went off to "Vie" (reviewed).

We came back after walking around Marina Mirage next door at 3.30pm collected our room key and went to the room. Our luggage had been delivered whilst we had lunch. My impression of the room was that the en suite was large and well set out, however the room furniture was showing signs of wear and tear, whilst the walls had a lot of finger marks that could (should) have been cleaned off. My partner was less than impressed when she spotted a cockroach coming out of our wardrobe.

Other issues were service related, whilst the staff were fantastic in terms of politeness and keen on service, other problems happened. No newspapers were delivered to our room over the two days we stayed there - even after specific requests for same. The spa in the en suite would not switch off even after 30 minutes past using it. The Mini Bar coke cola used on our first day was not replaced for our second day. No turndown service done on our second night.

The seats in the hotel are very low, if you are of average height or taller you will find yourself "sitting on the floor almost". The lobby chandelier had light globes that had blown or were going to, its an impressive piece the chandelier it should be seen in full glory not looking a bit haggard. In fact the hotel whilst clearly looked after by staff, it is definitely showing its age and is in need of a good renovation.

Wifi is available as a hot spot in the lobby, it should be a matter of course thoughout the hotel.

We had dinner one night at the buffet. The food was okay, surprised that ice was not used to keep the seafood and other "cold" dishes cold. Being an Italian hotel, very surprised no gelato available with the buffet, other than those two issues the food was good. Service could be better we were given a wine list but no one asked us if we wanted a wine with our dinner - in the end we elected not to worry about having a wine or drink with dinner. It was school holidays so the staff were busy.

We had dinner at the hotels "Vanitas" which was excellent and I have reviewed separately.

Given the buffet was so busy during dinner and it was school holidays, we elected to order room service breakfast. Lots of food, beautifully presented and well cooked, the breakfast room service as an absolute stunner (thank you Emily Jane).

Overall this hotel has the ability to be a truly grand hotel. I don't at present rate it as a high 5 star hotel, as it is showing its age, its needs a major renovation done on it to bring it up to current 21st century standard. That said, we enjoyed our time at Palazzo Versace, we particularly enjoyed both Vie and Vanitas, whist the staff throughout the hotel were just lovely and made you feel very welcome. We will be back.

Dear Massai7,

Thank you for your detailed review.

It is a pleasure to hear that you enjoyed your stay at Palazzo Versace and that our restaurants, Vie & Vanitas were also to your taste. Thank you for complementing our staff as they are the most valuable assets to our hotel and to our guest’s experience.

We are disappointed to hear that there were some oversights during your stay, and please be assured that these are being reviewed by the relevant departments.

As for our grand chandelier, your review has caused us all to jump out of our seats and head to the lobby to inspect, as you rightly pointed out, it is our pride and joy. Our chandelier sets the tone of opulence and grandeur of our whole hotel so light bulbs are monitored and replaced daily if required. Upon our investigation, we believe that perhaps the “blown light bulbs” that you’re referring are most likely to be glass ornaments that are located and presented in the same fashion as the surrounding bulbs however are purely ornate cut crystal that adds to the intricacy of the chandeliers’ design. We must confess when our General Manager first came to the hotel he looked at the chandelier he drew the same conclusion.

Once again, we thank you for your review and look forward to welcoming you back in the near future.

Kind Regards,

Lia Holloway

Many plusses about this hotel, but you'd think that when you spend >$2000 per night you might get an internet connection that works. After two trips from the IT department we were getting intermittent connection at best. Hence why I'm now sitting in the foyer doing business (and writing this review).

You would think in this day and age that a decent internet connection in any hotel is mandatory. Not so.

If you expect to use the internet frequently on your trip...this is not the hotel for you.

il Barocco Restaurant Buffet dinner: this was absolute brilliant! the food was 5 star! the desserts were great and a little different to normal, which make the experience feel that little bit more special, the wait staff were very helpful and polite indeed. I recommend to have dinner here if you do stay at palazzo Versace.

On site Spa, I arranged my fiancé to have a massage at the on site spa, she loved it, it may be a little $$ for some, but well worth it. the staff were great. the SPA environment is second to none!

The things that have changed from previous stay:
-Valet parking, this use to be included in the room charge, but is now an extra, which normally would phase me, but when you are paying $600 a night for a suite and then its an extra $30 a day for valet parking is a little steep when considering it use to be included and made the stay feel a like more special.

-On free access to the Basement Spa/pool: you use to be able to use this free of charge between 6am - 9 am every morning, but now the spa is privately owned, you can not use unless you are a paying for a treatment at the SPA, personally I don't find this an issue, but some previous guests might find this as a surprise on a return visit

-The Turn down chocolates lips are no longer, every night when your room was turned down, you previously would receive 2 chocolate lips on the bed, which has now doesn’t occurred, again this affects how special the place feels. This has been replaced by face cream and letter about the next days weather and suggestions on things to do.

All in all, a very good, relaxing stay and still one of my favourite places to stay... and I will return again, but just a little annoyed with the penny pinching in regards to valet parking and the lack of turn down chocolate lips considering the price of the accommodation.

Dear chopstar87,

Thank you for your review and recommendation of Il Barocco Restaurant.

Our “Beauty Sleep” turndown amenity changes daily. This has been customised to provide our guests with a unique Palazzo Versace experience each day of their stay with us. The beloved lip chocolates are still provided, we will be sure to put this in your guest history so you can indulge in these for your next stay if you wish. You will be excited to know that we will be introducing a new chocolate amenity for VIP and return guests so we will ensure this is provided for you as well.
