Check in was very efficient after the unexpected shock of the whole plane staying at the same hotel. The room was fine but little security as terrace opened onto a busy path also unable to leave window open at night for same reason. When we asked for a different room we were accomodated quickly and efficiently and were very happy with this room. The food was excellent but the dining areas could be very busy with lots of children running around. Bars and drink quality also excellent. Pool was great but always very busy. Sunbeds plentiful. Everything about the hotel was very clean and well cared for and the entertainment most nights was excellent.
On the downside weather during the firstweek was mixed and one could get very wet going from room to dining room or bar. This hotel was altogether too busy for my freind and myself and is not the place to go for a relaxing holiday. We knew that it was a large hotel but thought that after school holidays were over it would be more relaxed , we were wrong!!!! Are children in Europe allowed out of school when parents want them to be? Having said this we made the most of everything and the staff were most obliging and friendly even when under great pressure. Thankyou to all of them. They made what could have been a really bad experience for us into a holiday to remember. Families and younger people will just love it here even in October.

We have travelled as a family (me, my husband and our 3 year old son) in September. This is a lovely hotel in a gorgeous location, just 8o steps away from an amazing beach. We've arrived after 10 pm and a cold buffet was waiting for us. Family room spacious, very clean, just a bit out of date. The food was delicious, staff members very polite, all speak at least one foreign language. Our son enjoyed the evening children's show, the team worked very hard to keep everyone entertained. The hotel has free car park, but no free Wi-Fi, which wasn't really an issue for us considering the fact that we went there to relax and unwind. The pool area was great, lots of sunbeds. Cadiz is a great place for a day out. I've read few reviews which are very unfair, like the fact that they didn't serve paella, which was actually served in large quantities. Somebody mentioned the need of a bus to the beach...the hotel is ON the beach!!? Also some people are complaining about the loud Spanish families...well, no offence, but if you don't like Spanish or the way they talk, just choose another holiday destination. Over all, a great hotel which I would definitely recommend.

Room Tip: Stayed in room 2604, very quiet, away from entertainment area, but close to pool and gate to the bea...

Travelled as 2 couples between Friday 27th sept to Friday 4th October. Amazing resort. Check in a little slow but there was 4 coaches of Brits. Rooms superb, cleaned daily & plenty of space. Resort kept so clean, pools excellent. Plenty of activities. Staff are amazing, wonderful customer service. Food great.. Not sure how some people on here have complained that it was repetitive. My only struggle was what to eat as my belly was slowly getting bigger as the days passed. Plenty of choice.. Beer, wine & soft drinks on tap. Anything u need just ask.. Extra pillows, 10 mins later in our room. Evening entertainment very tongue in cheek. Dodgy magician, local flamenco, Staff jukebox dress up so funny.. Best gangnam ever. Wonderful beach just a few steps down. Hotel a little isolated but bus stop directly outside hotel.

We arrived at the hotel at 9.30pm and were given our all-inc. wrist bands as soon as we alighted the coach. The queue for checking in was long, so we just went to the restaurant had a very nice dinner and a few drinks before returning to the reception. We put a sticker on our luggage and went to have a look around.

The entertainment was very good. Not exactly the West End, but very good for a hotel production! After seeing the show we went to our room and our luggage was waiting for us inside. It was nice to have it delivered as we had no Euros on us at the time and we avoided any tipping issues.

The room was clean and had everything we needed air conditioned with an additional ceiling fan. There were two twin beds that were bigger than a single, but smaller than a double. They were a little too hard for us, but everyone has different tastes (like the three bears!). Very clean bathroom with bath, shower and handy hairdryer. The balcony view was really nice with a sea view.

Food was very good with lots of choice per day, but a little samey by the end of the week. The 'themed' restaurants were much the same but the quality at all three was excellent.
The drinks were not watered down or cheap and were very generous. A Barcardi (genuine) and Coke was three times the strength in a UK pub.

The pool was lovely, and there was no lack of sunbeds, even at the busy weekend when the hotel was at 80% capacity. The water was no deeper that 5ft and the pool and area was well maintained. The staff were all very friendly with lots of smiles and holas.

On the down side, wi-fi access was only available privately from the hotel shop and was very expensive E2 for 30mins. The hotel did say that they will be providing it next year, hopefully free of charge!

The mix was about 60% German 25% Spanish and 15% British (The coloured wrist bans betrayed your nationality)

Over all an excellent holiday with hot sunny weather!

I am a Coeliac. This hotel went out of their way to help me choose suitable food..They provided gluten free pizza and delicious desserts bread etc - to order. Just ask - they certainly do serve to please. Weather fantastic - hot with a light breeze - this was Sept 20th - 27th. Beaches gorgeous - forget the noisy overcrowded pool area - use the wonderful beaches -so clean - not many people - shame the hotel doesn't provide sun- beds - other hotels do. You can rent them at 5 euros per day from locals - BUT...this hotel had super food, exceptional service and a wonderful staff. We stayed for a week and hated leaving. We are active pensioners loved our walks along the beach, the local little shpping area with bars/cafes etc and were delighted to hear a local playing classical guitar whilst we had our coffee. Everywhere we went they understood "Sin Gluten" so I ate safely. Jerez is so delightful - the tour worth taking - the dancing horses - the wine bordega and best of all the Spanish gypsies dancing Flamenco were the best I've ever seen - talk about fire in their feet and soul - absolutely great. The port of Cadiz - a great day out - loved it - went on the local buses - cheap and easy. My suggestion is to have breakfast and dinner in the hotel - go to the beach or out somewhere in the daytime leave the crowded pools with the entertainment team yelling through loud speakers - great for young families - see this real Spain - very beautiful - I cannot fault the hotel at all but found I couldn't get to sleep much before 1am. The entertainment is mostly mime to music but is colourful and loud - very loud - the piano bar was closed to all except the Brazilian footballers with families and friends (I think) no-where quiete for a relaxing drink after a superb dinner. Eat early or join the queues. Spanish eat late and take the whole family with them - lovely to see happy families BUT us retired folk like less hustle. Don't mind me...Enjoy your time in the sun and yes I will return - lots more to see and the best beach apart the Caribbean I have ever been to.

Room Tip: ask for sea view - or ask for room on perimeter away from Spanish families - they are very loud and...

My wife, two friends and myself spent a very enjoyable week at the ClubHotel Riu Chiciana on the Costa de la Luz starting the third week in September. Check-in was quick and efficient considering there were 3 coach loads of us. We deliberately chose this later date as most children; including European children would be back at school so we could enjoy a quieter time, which we most certainly did. However, the hotel is really geared up for families so if that’s what you want you couldn’t get better than this hotel. If not, I wouldn't advise going during school holidays. But that's us, a little older looking for a bit of peace and quiet! There are loads of activities going on throughout the day if you want to take part, there’s no pressure so if you just want to chill out around the pool that’s fine. The entertainment staff are really friendly and enthusiastic in everything they do from pool side games, kiddies fun time and grown up entertainment.
The food is top notch, a wide choice for breakfast covering all tastes, lunch and dinner always include salads, fish of some sort as well as pasta various meats, roasts etc and occasionally my favourite, mussels!! We really can’t fault the food at all, there’s red, white and rose’ on tap, soft drinks and again, all the staff are friendly and helpful.
The rooms are very comfortable and clean. There is a safe in each room for securing your valuables. The shower was the most powerful I’ve ever come across, talk about massage, lovely! However, the rooms are not very sound proof, you can hear your neighbors and every footstep and chair movement across the bedroom tiles from above. So if you get a noisy family be warned. Also, our room was ground floor at the back which was pretty dull really.
The beach is reached by 80 steps and is sandy and kept clean, the sea was warm with some nice rollers that we enjoyed (Atlantic). There are plenty of toilets on the beach. Some hotels have their own sun bed area and bar, however the Riu doesn’t at time of writing but you can hire one for 5 euro.
Our rep was good and informative with plenty of trips if you wished. But if you wanted to do things yourself she gave you advice and maps on how to get about. There is a bus stop outside the hotel, catch the No 8, change in Chiciana for Cadiz, a nice day out. All in all this is a great place to stay all-inclusive, even the G & Ts were Gordon's!

Room Tip: Most rooms are in 2 or 3 storey buildings but there are single storey rooms available. All the rooms...

I travelled from 20-27th sept and thankfully the weather was great. The hotel is well maintained and rooms kept exceptionally clean by the staff. Guests are predominately spanish, and I should imagine this place is hectic in high season as it is a very large hotel. Food was very good, especially the breakfast, as I dont eat fish my choices were limited though. The pool was very cold, but with ample sunbeds and shades this did not spoil my trip. I would recommend this hotel if you are happy to stay on site, as Sancti Petri does not have much to offer, or places to walk out to.
