We booked this hotel break via Saga and nothing was a disappointment. The food was excellent both in its quality and choice. Staff were helpful and friendly. The location near the beach gave wonderful sunset views. We are unable to fault this stay.

The hotel was facing onto a huge, long sandy beach, on which it was possible to walk for miles.
The sand was good to walk on or build sandcastles.
On the ground floor there was a spa and attractive indoor swimming pool; a large comfortable sitting area behind the bar with tables, some covered in baize for card playing; TV and two computers. There was a bar with more tables and chairs and a large buffet restaurant. There was also a very small stage, but there was a theatre on the same floor, where some entertainments took place.
Outside there were at least two pools with lots of sunbeds and an under cover table tennis table.
At the front of the hotel there was a paved path down to a small shopping mall with a supermarket, chemist and bars and restaurants.
Our bedroom was clean and comfortable with a side view of the sea. The bathroom was a good size with plenty of hot water.
The food was good, with plenty of choice. There was always fish and the desserts were very attractively presented.

Room Tip: Side sea view rooms have either morning or afternoon sun. I wish that we had paid more and got a sea view room facing the beach with sun most of the day.

This is our fifth holiday in this hotel. We stay here because of its location, on one of the exceptional beaches in Spain with golf courses nearby. We have always found the staff helpful and curtious. It helps to have hired a car to visit the nearby city and beautiful towns.

A car is very useful although local bus services are good. For a small group rental of a mini-bus might be cheaper and more convenient than local buses.

Visit the amazing Roman Remains at Baelo Claudia and the mountain-top town of Medina Sidonia. Gibraltar worth a visit if you haven't been before. Cape Trafalgar is good if you are a surfer or like walking on sand or addicts for modern concrete lighthouses!

Food at hotel absolutely outstanding

This hotel was selected for our 2 week stay mainly because we had earlier stayed at another Iberostar managed hotel and greatly enjoyed it. Whilst we also enjoyed our stay here, several things spoiled the experience.
On the positive side, we thought the location excellent for a quiet break. The beach and general environment has much of historical interest for Brits.; the novel road train also added to the local experience and the availability of the small shopping area a short (and most pleasant) walk from the hotel was appreciated.
However, the hotel we found disappointing. The restaurant served excellent food, but the dining experience was ruined by the sheer size of the place. With some 500 diners in one huge open space, the noise was deafening. Most hotels with this number of guests have either several restaurants or separate dining areas off the buffet food section. Doubtless being an older design, others have benefitted from experience, but this one needs modernisation, and nowhere more urgent than the dining area!
Our room was quite pleasant. Small, but with a side sea view and balcony, the only complaint was the 'tiredness' of the decor. Carpets are NOT the flooring for this style of hotel and when they are old and stained it is most off-putting. Our biggest problem however was a 'plumbing malfunction' and this was not adequately addressed on the day following the 'incident'. Following a repeat incident during the next night, the entire apartment reeked! and this time men in boiler- suits swiftly attended. We had to leave the room for the day, and on our return, all seemd to have been dealt with properly. However, the following day a 'bug' had arrived and this destroyed most of the second week of our stay. Meals were NOT the same! Outings were spoiled or cancelled and the pains borne with dignity. There is no medical support at this hotel and external help has to be sought for any significant problem. Not ideal!
The sunbed / swimming pool area we found unclean. Whilst there we never saw the surface areas being washed down and stains by sunbeds on arrival were still there on leaving.
Entertainment we found very good. The Animation Team were hard working and excellent. Always friendly during the daytime, they mounted some superb shows during the evenings.
One other aspect caused stress! The availability of wifi was appalling. There were two methods of access supposedly available. One required access via codes from ones mobile phone???? (not EVERYONE carries these on holiday!) or by payment. Neither of these worked properly! The solution - walk to the little village cafe and use the free wifi whilst enjoying a drink - PERFECT! In this day and age, with wifi avilable in even the most unlikely places (e.g. small cafes!), it is SURELY not too much to expect for hotels of this class to install efficient systems for the use of guests.
As a final point, we formed the opinion that there were too few staff for the number of guests visiting. No wonder the country has such high unemployment when the employed staff are so hard worked. Restaurant waiter staff were so hard pressed that service noticeably suffered.
Overall, a nice stay, but blighted by the disappointments above.

Room Tip: Ask for one of the 'updated' rooms.
