“A lot better than reviews make out”
Reviewed July 10, 2013

A group of 4 of us (we're a group of girls, all aged 18) stayed here from 30th June- 7th July. Up until we got to the hotel we thought that we would get regularly robbed, the rooms would be disgusting and that the hotel staff would be rude (due to the previous reviews on the website.)

However, the room itself was lovely- it was basic but it was larger than we thought and a maid was there 4 out of the 8 days. I would recommend getting a safe for 20 euros just to be on the safe side. Whilst we were there we didn't hear anything about break ins and the security guard who works there made sure that if one of us came in by ourselves we got back up to our room safely. You can get air conditioning for 50 euros for the week, but we decided against this. Instead, in the evenings we just had the doors open and this was sufficient for all but 1 or 2 warm nights where we wished we'd bought air-con or brought a mini fan. The food at the hotel bar was nice, and the portions are massive, you get a lot for money, e.g. you can get a full English breakfast for 4 euros. The staff are always at the bar and were very friendly- on one night i ordered chicken and chips and the man came over, informing me that they were out of chicken but i got to pick something else off the menu, he refunded me the difference in price and brought us over free drinks to make up for the wait. The hotel is right at the top of the strip so the main source of noise is a bar next door which just only has it's music on until midnight-ish.

The only down side to the hotel is that the shower leaks water everywhere so the bathroom floor becomes soaked. The water doesn't really drain away and the water quickly becomes sandy and muddy from everyones shoes! I would suggest going down to on if the supermarkets and getting a 6/7 euro broom just so you can sweep the water down the drain.

I think we would all recommend not booking events with the 18-30s rep- you can get everything they offer for cheaper on the strip. Our rep assured us that she was selling things for the same price as on the strip- THIS IS NOT TRUE. You will see as soon as you get onto the strip that reputable companies are selling the same nights out and days trips for about 15-25 euros each- however, your rep will charge you about 200 euros for 5 night outs and one boat party.

Overall this hotel is really nice- don't let previous reviews scare you, as long as you're smart through investing in a safe and making sure you lock the doors no one will rob you. The room we had (number 11) and the room next to us (number 10) were a lot bigger than the other and didn't have any major problems. We would defiantly stay there again.

I went away from 20th-28th June 2013, but before going I read these reviews and was absolutely petrified that I would be robbed, attacked by 'Hagrid' and be hated by the owners. But nothing of the sort happened. We bought a safe for €20 euros which I recommend,. The owners are friendly they weren't really around when we were but when they were they were pleasant and the bar staff are very friendly. The only bad thing about the owners is that their English is very broken. The cleaner will wake you up every other day to get in at around 12 but she's done in 10minutes. Also our rep was useless, more unwelcoming than the owners, if you are a guy she'll happily talk to you but girls are a no go. Plus she is only 19...

The 'Hagrid' character that people have mentioned is no longer at the hotel. Instead there is a nice Indian man who is very helpful and managed to get hold of the owners at 6am to get some of the other guests keys when they got locked out of there rooms after being on the strip all night!

It's a very basic hotel, try and avoid room 12 if you can because we had that and it was teeny-tiny the biggest room is room 10 which has two rooms inside it and houses 4! Our flight out was at 2am but we were allowed to keep a room for an extra day which they were originally charging only €30 euros for the room. But when she found out 6 of us wanted to share the room just to keep bags in while at the pool she charged us €50, claiming she was doing a special deal instead of charging €60. There is also a list of damages charges in each room which they definitely pick up on, I was charged €10 for hair dye on a towel. They charge €50 for AC but it's not really needed as you have balcony doors to let in cold air. Overall the apartment were nice, don't go expecting the Ritz or anything. But it has everything you need a bed, shower and sink.

Room Tip: Ask for a room not facing the front as I believe it could get very noisy with people walking home fr...

Stayed here between the 13th and 20th of June as a and after reading these reviews, I was pretty worried. However, it was nice! From what I gathered, it's a modest hotel, very basic and close to the strip. There were a few issues however. Showers are freezing cold so make sure you get drunk before showering lol; our bathroom was flooded because there was a leak in the back of the system which was pretty disgusting; and our rep was a pain in the .. Take away that and I have no complaints...Some phones do get stolen (I'm sure), but from what I've seen it, if you are really nice to them and you just stay cautious, you'll be fine and you won't get robbed. Buy a safe and always put your key in the back of the door when sleeping. The staff are lovely if you are fairly repectful and the food is pretty decent so yeah, average place and it's not too bad

Stayed at this hotel with 2 friends, on our first day we went to the owner behind the bar to buy a safe (as advised by our rep), the owner told us we had to buy one from the rep who wasn’t here anymore so it had to wait until tomorrow. On our first day we came in reasonably early and clearly remember locking the door as we discussed it between us. We woke up 2 hours later by people knocking on our wide open door saying all our stuff was in the corridor. Somebody had been into our room, crept around us, stolen all of our phones, ipods, cameras and over 1,000 euros from each of us. Having very little clothes on due to the temperature, I am disgusted to think somebody had been creeping around the room of 3 girls. I can only imagine what would have happened if one of us had have woken up. One other room had been broken into also – the only room in the complex who’s safe was not chained to the wall. I struggle to believe this was not an inside job, especially as a member of the family had been constantly walking by our room throughout the day, peering over our terrace and into the doors. Further to this, when we went straight away to tell the hotel owners, they just kept smirking and obviously found it amusing, even though we were distressed and had nothing for the rest of the 2 weeks. It is a common problem in this hotel so why would they not take extra security measures if it was not an inside job? Granted there are few people who have had a good experience but why take the chance? It’s not worth the risk when there are plenty of other hotels in zante who have much better reviews from guests.

whatever you do, do NOT book this hotel. we found it hard to think of any positive comments about the hotel. to start with, their is no reception just a plastic table and chairs in the pool bar area. where upon arrival they took one person from each groups passport, which would b "safely stored." their idea of safely stored was behind the bar area, where anybody could get their hands on it. The room was a disgrace, the toilet had not been cleaned, the shower was useless. our rooms were "cleaned" once, the bed sheets were not changed and we had to ask for fresh towels, where we. the toilet bin was overflowing, and when asked to have it emptied, we were rudely handed a black bin liner and told to do it ourselves. they try and fine you at the slightest thing. the staff are rude and aggressive, we found an ants nest in our room and a dirty, used, ear bud on the floor. it made our holiday so stressful and one of the worst holidays we have been on. the only positive comment is that they play music by the pool to keep up the party spirit and the food and drinks are reasonably cheap. if you want a hotel that's convenient then it will be ok. but alot of the people we met on our holiday all said the same. very disappointed and angry.

I stayed at the Ellinis from the 19th July for a week with 6 other friends. Before we arrived we were all dreading staying here as the reviews were awful and after reading other friends hotel reviews from other places in Zante we felt we had made a bad choice.

However, when we arrived the owner of the hotel could not have been nicer! We had read that the owners were horrible and try and get money out of you so we were still quite wary of them. As the holiday went on we could not understand how anyone could of given this place a bad review and say the owners were horrible!

The rooms are extremely basic, beds and a bathroom, but it is an 18-30s hotel and if you needed much more in the room then maybe you had chosen the wrong type of holiday. There was no shower curtain but this wasn't unique to this hotel, apparently the Greeks think it is unhygienic to have shower curtains. On the back of your door there is a list of charges if anything gets broken, but anywhere would expect you to pay if you broke something and at least you know before hand how much things will cost and they don't just come up with some ridiculous price on the spot. The pool is big and clean and there is plenty of space to sunbathe.

The food and drink at the hotel bar was cheap and the food was lovely. On one of last nights we had a bbq and the owner made all the food and it was amazing.

After coming home from the strip we spent most nights sleeping outside our rooms on the corridor, as it was too hot to sleep in the rooms, most other hotels would probably have an issue with this, so to say the owners were strict confused me a little.

The first day we signed up to the package with the reps, which a couple of hours later we regretted as we had been warned not to do this as you can get everything cheaper on the strip. However, doing the package was the best thing we did and made our holiday amazing.

I'd advise anyone on 18-30s going to Zante to stay at the Ellinis, the owners are lovely,we met some amazing people and would definitely do it all over again!

Me and 7 pals travelled on 12 July from Glasgow to Ellinis for a fortnight and when we arrived we did think it was a dive. But the owner Marina couldnt be lovlier, the food from the pool bar is really good, it's reasonably close to everything (the strip, restaurants, beach). Only thing is try to avoid room 3!! Infested with ants!! There is a list of damage costs but if you stay on Marina's good side she is very fair and wont chage full amounts. Pool area is great too!

Also, please beware of HAGRID!!! That guy is a nightmare he is basically the security guard of the hotel as it's forbidden to bring anyone back. He has one glass eye and it's very distracting as it's hard to know who he's really looking at. His language is also atrocious. He will swear in your face for no reason!! And attempt to fine you but if you refuse he doesnt say much. Even when going home alone he shines a torch on you every step you take to your room. Annoying.

But apart from that i would definitely return to Ellinis, met some amazing people and had an amazing holiday. Zante is the best!

Room Tip: Avoid room 3 at all costs!!!
