Have stayed in Kamari three times. First time was because it was less expensive. Having toured the island, Oia and Fira are crazy with hordes of tourists. It is worth visiting these places because of the great view of the caldera, but staying there would be too much. Kamari has some great traditional restaurants off the beach, and even the beachside places are decent. Many great hostelries here.

As santorini is a little quite place one must stay either at Oia or at Kamari beach! At least you see people around and it’s more lively than any part of santorini. Cute little cafes and restaurants facing the beach. Nice to take a walk in the evenings post sunset.

The beach is very similar to the black sand beach at Perissa, but the sand is coarser at Kamari. The beach is backed by an extensive pedestrianised area with very many restaurants and bars. Most of these have loungers and sunshades on the beach, which are usually free if you patronise the establishment. The beach is well kept and very clean. In mid-May it was slightly busier than Perissa Beach.

Santorini is known for its cliff top villages and blue domes. Both stunning but both a long way from the water. If you want easy access to the water, then the black beaches of Kamari are perfect. Every beach front restaurant has sun beds with umbrellas and if you do not want to be tied to eating and drinking all day from the same place then Kamari Beach cafe at the southern end has beds and umbrellas for €5pp. You’ll need some beach shoes as the black sand/rock is hard on the feet but these are cheap and easily found in one of the many shops lining the beach.

This beach very narrow areas from restaurants chairs to water, small pebbles and no sand really to speak of, and beach areas as well as chairs are accessible mostly by having to eat at that restaurant. There are few areas that once can use not controlled by restaurant however few and far between and no chairs etc. There are a few places you can rent chairs on a beach area however 10-15EURO. Good thing I don’t care about beaches that much so it didn’t bother me however group I was with like beaches and were put off.
