“Beautiful Santorini”
Reviewed October 14, 2010

Had seen pictures of the Hotel on the Internet, and we were keen to stay by the beach. I think the choice that we made of staying at the Aegean Plaza could not have been better. This is located at Kamari beach, about a 15 min drive from Fira. The Hotel was even better than what one saw in the pictures. It had nice and big rooms, with a balcony, overlooking the hotel pool. The Hotel had around 50 plus rooms and it was full so the pool side was always buzzing specially the pool bar. It had free wifi, which I could access even from my room with my laptop. Breakfast was included in the room tariff and it was top class. The beach was just a 2 minute walk and it had a great promenade with lots of restaurants and shops. The hotel staff excellent, very courteous and helpful, guided us a lot with the sight seeing and also with some great recommendations for restaurants. Would surely go back and stay there if I go back to Santorini.

Spent a week at the Aegean Plaza in Kamari whilst attending a family wedding on Santorini !
I was a bit uncertain if we would like the hotel after reading some of the reviews I had read about it in the past.
Im am glad to say that the Aegean Plaza is a lovely Hotel with a very friendly and homely feel about the place. The plaza is kept very clean by the very hard working staff. The 2 swimming pools are very clean. One of them is more suited to families, and the other for people wanting a more quiet and restful holiday.
We as a family group spent vertually the whole of the week around the large pool which has its own bar ( they make an awesome Mojito, and the mythos beer is very drinkable too......yum, yum ) and has a plentiful supply of sunbeds. My 5 year old son (and his new found friends from the hotel and our family group ) really enjoyed the pool and we struggled to get him to come out of the water.........he was nearly turning into a prune after he spent so much time in there.
I didnt really like the beach very as it was very stoney..............but Ha ho, Santorini is a volcanic island !
This review is about the hotel and not the beach !

The bar staff in the hotel were really hard working and friendly. The only down side was a CD that got played over and over and over and over and over again ( Oh merci merci me ! ) But it was quite funny really !

The rooms were very spacious and had a rustic feel to them. We had a pool view from our apartment (as did everyone in our group ) and there was plenty of storage space for all our luggage and clothing. The shower had a hook on the wall and the bath even had a plug.....which is very unusual for Greece !

We all enjoyed the breakfasts from the Hotel !

The island of Santorini is very picturesque and the locals are very friendly.

There are numerous restaurants down on the seafront which is just 100 metres away from the plaza, and although not the cheapest of the Greek islands I have been to, Santorini is probably my favourite greek island so far...... And I have visited quite a few !

But that may be down to awesome Greek wedding we were there for .......and the laid back feel o the island and jaw dropping ,stunning views !

Would I go back to the plaza? Maybe, but that's only because we like to try somewhere different every year, when we go on our summer holidays !

But we really did like it there !
Some of the other guests were even in tears when they had to leave to go home !

Would I recommend the Aegean Plaza to a friend? Yes I would !

Having stayed in some quite basic hotels in the past, the Aegean Plaza was lovely. Our room was just above reception on the second floor overlooking the pool with a huge balcony. The room was clean and comfortable and the fridge was a real bonus. The large pool did get busy so we spent most of our time at the smaller pool at the back of the hotel where it was quieter and there were more sunbeds available. We stayed on a B&B basis and found there was a good selection of food available for breakfast, although the coffee was not brilliant. As early risers we did not have a problem with the amount of people at breakfast but can appreciate that it is quite a small area when there is a lot of people trying to get breakfast! The location of the hotel was perfect for going out for lunch and dinner as it is just a short stroll to the main drag where all the restaurants are. We did the day trip to the Volcano which was very hot and make sure you have some sensible shoes to walk up the volcano - flip flops are not good at all! Also did the sunset at Oia where we eat in the Sunset restaurant as the sun was going down. Lovely food and great service.

Me and my partner stayed at this hotel for a week in July this year. We found the staff to be helpful and polite and nothing was too much trouble. Our rooms was on the ground floor just past the main pool and right next to the second pool, this pool although much smaller was much quiter in the day which suited us and there were always plenty of sun lounges available. Breakfast was good with a choice of hot or cold breakfast. The hotel's location was extremely usefull, literally mintues away from the beach and Kamari restuarant and bars. Overall we found the hotel to really wonderful and would definately stay again.

Very nice and cozy hotel. Located just a few minutes’ walk to the beach and the restaurants/shopping area. Very nice pool area and great food in the pool bar. Free Internet connection. Very good service. Breakfast was not so good, especially the poor filter coffee, but pool bar had great cappuccino. Some noise from air traffic now and then, but not annoying. We travelled 2 adults with kids of ages: 9 and 14.

The hotel is in the PERFECT location! 2 blocks from the beach with all the amazing restaurants and shops.... The hotel staff were the most friendly people i have met in a very long time. They would go out of their way to help you with whatever you need. The room we stayed in was very large and very clean, with a beautiful view overlooking the pool. I would re-visit this hotel in a heartbeat! I can't wait to go back!

We have just returned from a weeks stay at the Aegean Plaza Hotel, Santorini. After a nightmare 17 Hour delay due to Greek strikes we arrived. Promptly checked in and given a 2nd floor room over looking the main pool/bar area.
The rooms were very clean and spacious with a fridge which was very useful given the scorching heat well into the 30s every day and not a cloud in the sky. Fully functioning air con was also a god send.
We stayed on a B&B basis and the food was fine, always something to have, museli, bread/toast, cooked breakfast, fruit, yoghurt cereal etc a bit samey but perfectly fine.
The Hotel is ideally situated around the corner from the beach and promenade where you can find the bars and restaurants.
The main pool we found very busy and some of the other residents (mainly Scandanavians) like to sit on your lap, so we opted for the quiet pool around the back which had plenty of sunbeds and has a back entrance which is a few metres from the beach and supermarket, ideal for nipping to get a drink or something to eat which is a lot cheaper than the hotel!
The hotel is only a 10 min drive from the airport and low flying planes are a daily occurrence, I enjoyed watching them fly over and its only a few seconds of noise, no trouble at all.
I would recommend hiring a car or quad to have a look around the island. Petrol is expensive though £1.50 a litre!!
We had dinner in Fira once which was lovely but overpriced and the town is very very busy.
Kamari is lovely and so are the local people.
The restaurants are a plenty and offer lots of fresh fish and Greek food.
I would recommend the Family Tavern on the sea front lovely Fish and Chicken Souvlaki!
Lots of deals on the sea front so you jus have to be brave and try stuff!
I would recommend across the road from the main hotel entrance a snack bar between supermarket and scooter hire - excellent fresh Greek food, really cheap and the best Gyros ever!!
Definately go to OIA or Imoglivi (sp) for the sunset, now its aroung 21:10!
The beach in Kamari is horrid, pebbles and shingles and you need to buy suitable footwear like wetsuit rubbery shoes to clamber about, sunbeds are E 6 for the day.
Would I recommend Santorini? Yes
Would I go back to Santorini? No, we only went to attend an wedding, but we would not return because of the beach and its over priced compared to other islands!!
