“Amazingly relaxing and beautiful hotel”
Reviewed July 28, 2010

The hotel is in the PERFECT location! 2 blocks from the beach with all the amazing restaurants and shops.... The hotel staff were the most friendly people i have met in a very long time. They would go out of their way to help you with whatever you need. The room we stayed in was very large and very clean, with a beautiful view overlooking the pool. I would re-visit this hotel in a heartbeat! I can't wait to go back!

We have just returned from a weeks stay at the Aegean Plaza Hotel, Santorini. After a nightmare 17 Hour delay due to Greek strikes we arrived. Promptly checked in and given a 2nd floor room over looking the main pool/bar area.
The rooms were very clean and spacious with a fridge which was very useful given the scorching heat well into the 30s every day and not a cloud in the sky. Fully functioning air con was also a god send.
We stayed on a B&B basis and the food was fine, always something to have, museli, bread/toast, cooked breakfast, fruit, yoghurt cereal etc a bit samey but perfectly fine.
The Hotel is ideally situated around the corner from the beach and promenade where you can find the bars and restaurants.
The main pool we found very busy and some of the other residents (mainly Scandanavians) like to sit on your lap, so we opted for the quiet pool around the back which had plenty of sunbeds and has a back entrance which is a few metres from the beach and supermarket, ideal for nipping to get a drink or something to eat which is a lot cheaper than the hotel!
The hotel is only a 10 min drive from the airport and low flying planes are a daily occurrence, I enjoyed watching them fly over and its only a few seconds of noise, no trouble at all.
I would recommend hiring a car or quad to have a look around the island. Petrol is expensive though £1.50 a litre!!
We had dinner in Fira once which was lovely but overpriced and the town is very very busy.
Kamari is lovely and so are the local people.
The restaurants are a plenty and offer lots of fresh fish and Greek food.
I would recommend the Family Tavern on the sea front lovely Fish and Chicken Souvlaki!
Lots of deals on the sea front so you jus have to be brave and try stuff!
I would recommend across the road from the main hotel entrance a snack bar between supermarket and scooter hire - excellent fresh Greek food, really cheap and the best Gyros ever!!
Definately go to OIA or Imoglivi (sp) for the sunset, now its aroung 21:10!
The beach in Kamari is horrid, pebbles and shingles and you need to buy suitable footwear like wetsuit rubbery shoes to clamber about, sunbeds are E 6 for the day.
Would I recommend Santorini? Yes
Would I go back to Santorini? No, we only went to attend an wedding, but we would not return because of the beach and its over priced compared to other islands!!

Have just returned from a two week stay in the Aegean Plaza and had a wonderful time. We would certainly recommend it. We thought the hotel was ideally situated, and it only took a few minutes to walk to the beach front where there are a number of restaurants to choose from. The average price of a meal in Kamari was 30 euros for the two of us. However, the best meal we had was at a taverna in Fira called Zofora, which had a spectacular view over the Caldera. That meal for the two of us was 50 euros but in our view worth it.
To add to comments made by previous reviewers. The airport noise was not an issue. I think at the most we counted 6 planes, which pass overhead for all of 20 seconds if that. In fact the guests seem to be interested in watching the planes.
Breakfast - we thought there was a good variety of food - hot food, cold meats and cheese, cereals, fruit, Greek yogurt, pastries/cake and even facilities to make toast so enough to be able to vary what you had each day if you wanted. However, on a couple of days during our stay it did get a bit chaotic.
The hotel was clean and not only was our room swept every day but the floor was also washed. The bed was hard but we didn't find it uncomfortable but then we are used to a fairly firm mattress. The fridge was very useful.
The pool was lovely and we didn't find it cold. If the main pool was busy we went round the corner to the second pool, which was quieter.
All the staff were friendly and helpful.
We loved Santorini and had some great days out. If you can take the boat trip to the Volcano but do protect yourself against the sun which on a very hot day can be a bit of a killer. The local wine museum was also well presented and worth a visit.

Excellent value for money. Fantastic pool area. Relaxing and quiet. The weather was fabulous. The breakfast was good and would certainly visit Santorini and the Aegean Plaza again. Simply a wonderful spring/early summer holiday.

We have recently returned from santorini and we stayed in the Aegean Plaza hotel, we had a fantastic stay. the hotel is the best hotel in Kamari, very pretty, clean and friendly. we were a party of 20 as me and my husband got married while we were there. rooms were big and comfy. as santorini is a small island you can see and hear the planes coming in but its more interesting then annoying as stated in another review and there are only about 3-4 planes a day. we could not have asked for more from this hotel it was perfect. the breakfasts were nice and i would advise to go in may as Kamari is quiet and the weather was just perfect. pool is cold but all greek pools are not heated. all in all a great hotel and a fantastic island

The hotel, staff, pool and location is really great. The hotel isn't that great, but very nice. The personnel is friendly and the food quite good. Because there are so many of awesome restaurants in the central of Kamari, I would book only bed & breakfast.

I really liked the hotel, perhaps I will go there again when I I travel to Santorini the next time. Perhaps there are more suitable hotels if you travel with your family and children. But if you go there with your friends or girlfriend/boyfriend and are looking for a hotel near to the beach and restaurants , this hotel should be your first choice!

Stayed at the Aegean Plaza for a wedding in september. Not a fantastic hotel by any stretch of the imagnation...
Rooms very basic and dated decor.
CNN is the only english TV channel
Pools were painfully cold, even the baby pool was too cold for our 9 mth old
Very hard lifeless beds
Buffet breakfast was dull and cold
Steps everywhere all round the hotel (difficult with pushchair, even if you're on the ground floor)
The night before you fly home, the rep lets themself into your room to deliver pick up details....this is totally un necessary as they could simply slide the card under the door. During this evening, my purse was opened and £20 note removed!!
The hotel is a short walk to the strip of restaurants in Kamari, although, saying that it is probably at the 'wrong' end and is therefore a longer walk to the nicer bars and restaurants

Would definately not go back to this hotel and have no intention to ever return to santorini! Terrible place, freezing cold on september evenings.(My husband had to buy a fleece!) The 'Beach' is stoney and Fira is certainly not a place to take a pushchair!...oh and santorini is extremely expensive!!
