“Ancient mishmash!”
Reviewed September 24, 2013

Archaeology from 10C BC to 10th AD and glorious views over Kamari and Perissa. Quite a stiff walk - water essential, little shade at the top, but usually a good breeze.

“Breathtaking views”
Reviewed September 24, 2013

Amazing views, you can see both kamari and Perissa
We got a minibus from kamari tours which was great, wouldn't have fancied driving up there!
There isn't a great deal left of the ruins but it's only 2 euros per person and just or the views it's worth it

“Unique experience”
Reviewed September 22, 2013

When in the town of Kamari, be sure to visit the ancient town of Thira. It is located way up the mountain which you can't miss. The road up there is paved all the way up and there's even the possibility to buy a refreshment. From there, spend two euro for entrance to the open air museum, which the excavationsite is. Wander around and be amazed about the acomplishments of the ancient Greek. Be puzzled as to how they were able to build all those stone structures by hand. Imagine the peace and quiet one could have experienced in the old days without Kamari and the airport laying beneath you.
I'll not go in depth about the site itself as you can find enough of that on the internet.

You can reach this site on wheels, be it scooter, quad, or car. Better, still, is just to walk. We've seen elderly people do this, so you can too! It will take you about 5 quarters of an hour from downtown Kamari and 3 for the way back.
Take water with you and your camera and nothing else.
Enjoy your visit and let me know if you like this little review.
